Bridging crypto and entertainment

Coin Musme revolves around a storyline where characters inspired by cryptocurrencies undergo a process of becoming popular idols at the Coin Musme Academy in order to revive the public’s interest in crypto after a major market collapse. Players can earn non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are sold through the gacha mechanic. The gacha mechanic allows players to spend in-game currency — in this case, Musme Coin (MSM) — in exchange for a random item. The MSM utility token will be listed on multiple exchanges leading up to the game’s official launch.

The game’s official Discord community server called Coin Musme Academy was launched publicly on August 2 in various countries. It is led by Musme-chan, the non-playable official PR character, and operates in a school-themed roleplay style. Participants can find information about Coin Musme on the server, such as interaction events, campaigns, and more.

Notably, last Tuesday (local time), a designated channel for Korean and Chinese users was added. To mark the occasion, the game is hosting an event for Korean users, who will get a chance to receive free gacha NFT vouchers that can be used in the game. Users can participate by joining the Coin Musme Korean Discord channel and following the official global Coin Musme X (formerly Twitter) account. 20 winners will be selected through a draw.

Users can change their language settings to Korean and join the #general-kr channel, where they can find details about the event. The community is also recruiting Korean ambassadors, who will be responsible for promoting the game through their personal social media accounts as well as those under Musme-chan’s name.

Meanwhile, another event is taking place to celebrate the recent listing of MBX, MARBLEX’s governance token, on the Japanese exchange Zaif, and the debut of a new Musme character representing MBX named Marblex-chan. Her character NFT can be found on Zaif’s NFT marketplace.

Fostering fun and community

Eureka Entertainment emphasized that the goal of everyone making money in the gaming world is essentially unattainable, expressing their intention to instead present a user-centered game focused on providing fun experiences, encouraging user interaction, and enhancing gameplay experiences.

OKX and HashKey plan partnership to promote industry development

HashKey Group, the Hong Kong-based regulated cryptocurrency exchange, is planning a partnership with crypto derivatives platform OKX.Photo by Ivan Lau on UnsplashAdvancing innovation and growthThe duo announced their plans via a press release which was published on Tuesday. The objective of the partnership is aimed at advancing compliant virtual asset innovation and industry growth in Hong Kong. The collaboration between HashKey Group and OKX capitalizes on the strengths and resources of both entities to elevate services and experiences. Harnessing these strengths the pair intend to contribute towards Hong Kong's emergence as a hub for the regulated virtual asset industry. The partnership will encompass various industry initiatives, including blockchain infrastructure development, product diversification and virtual asset investment education within the region. First regulated exchangeNotably, HashKey Group achieved a significant milestone last year by becoming the first Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC)-regulated crypto exchange authorized to serve retail users. The firm secured Type 1 and Type 7 licenses from the SFC, in line with the  "compliance first” approach the company is taking. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Hong Kong, with operations in Singapore and Tokyo, HashKey Group caters to a diverse clientele, including retail investors, institutions, family offices, funds and professional investors. The services offered by the company encompass a Hong Kong SFC-regulated virtual asset exchange, global asset management and wealth management, with a focus on blockchain and digital assets, blockchain node validation, tokenization and Web3 incubation and community operations. Its Singaporean subsidiary, digital asset fund manager HashKey Capital, secured a regulatory license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) in December. Unicorn statusOKX Ventures, the investment division of OKX, played a crucial role in supporting HashKey's Series A financing. That Series A funding round saw HashKey achieve unicorn status with a $1.2 billion valuation earlier this month. OKX Ventures focuses on investing in projects that nurture sustainable growth within the global virtual asset ecosystem. OKX, already serving over 50 million users worldwide, has a notable presence with sponsorships that include Manchester City FC in the English Premier League (EPL) and the McLaren Formula 1 racing team. Earlier this month, the company expanded its sponsorship with McLaren. The digital asset exchange began onboarding customers in Hong Kong a month before officially launching operations there, aligning with the city's new virtual asset service providers (VASPs) regime implemented on June 1 of last year. In March 2023, OKX established a Hong Kong entity to launch virtual asset services, with plans to apply for the virtual asset service provider (VASP) license and Type 1 & 7 licenses under the Securities and Futures Ordinance. Approval is anticipated by early 2024. The collaborative effort between HashKey Group and OKX marks a significant stride in advancing compliant virtual asset innovations in Hong Kong. This partnership aims to enhance service offerings and customer experiences, further solidifying Hong Kong's position as a regulated virtual asset industry hub. By leveraging their respective strengths, these industry leaders are well placed to assist in elevating Hong Kong's standing in the global virtual asset landscape, fostering growth and compliance in this rapidly evolving sector.

U.S. seizes $14B in Bitcoin from crypto scheme linked to Cambodia conglomerate

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a civil complaint to seize roughly 127,271 Bitcoin linked to an alleged fraud scheme tied to Prince Group, a multinational conglomerate based in Cambodia. That’s according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. The digital assets are currently valued at approximately $14.18 billion and are now in the custody of the U.S. government. Prince Group chairman Chen Zhi, now indicted by U.S. authorities, has been named as the mastermind behind the operation. FBI Assistant Director in Charge Christopher Raia said Chen oversaw an international crypto investment scam connected to a labor trafficking network that defrauded thousands of victims worldwide.Photo by Kanchanara on UnsplashOperations across 30 nationsSince 2015, Chen Zhi has headed the Prince Group, which operates in more than 30 countries. Under his direction, the group allegedly established scam compounds across Cambodia that promoted fraudulent crypto investment scams. The operations targeted victims through social media and messaging platforms with false promises of high returns. According to the allegations, funds were stolen and laundered rather than invested, and perpetrators often built trust over time before carrying out the fraud. Authorities in Vietnam have uncovered a comparable case that did not involve the seizure of cryptocurrency. According to Tech in Asia, Hanoi police confiscated assets worth $34 million from Nguyen Hoa Binh, chairman of the tech company NextTech. The seized property includes 597 gold bars, deeds to 18 properties, and two vehicles. Investigators allege that Binh and nine associates raised funds for the AntEx cryptocurrency project by selling 33.2 billion tokens to 30,000 investors in 2021, collecting around $4.5 million. The defendants are said to have taken part in fraudulent appropriation of assets and accounting violations. Tepid business climate in VietnamThese incidents come as Vietnam’s government works to define its stance on digital assets. According to a Cointelegraph report published earlier this month, the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance said that since the announcement of the country’s five-year digital asset trading pilot plan, no companies have applied to participate. Sharing this update, the vice minister of finance expressed hope that this pilot would launch before 2026. The report points to strict requirements as a likely reason for hesitation. Licensed crypto asset service providers must hold at least 10 trillion dong, about $379 million, in capital. They are also required to back all digital assets with real and tangible assets only, and the framework explicitly prohibits using fiat currencies or securities as backing. These rules leave few options that would attract retail or institutional investors. Gemini eyes Southeast Asia as adoption growsMeanwhile, global firms continue to look to Southeast Asia as activity increases. Dow Jones Newswires reported that Gemini, the American crypto platform founded by the Winklevoss brothers, plans to expand its footprint across the region. In an interview, Saad Ahmed, Gemini’s head of Asia Pacific (APAC), said the company was strengthening its regional operations. A Chainalysis study provides context, showing that the APAC region recorded the fastest growth in on-chain activity compared to other markets in the 12 months ended June. The region saw total crypto transactions rise to $2.36 trillion from $1.4 trillion a year earlier. Although Ahmed did not share investment figures, he said Gemini’s Singapore headquarters has grown to about 65 employees, up from 15 in the final quarter of 2023. He added that the expansion reflects the company’s view of Singapore as a key base for its operations in Asia and globally. Recent criminal discoveries and tightening regulations reveal how Southeast Asia’s crypto scene remains nascent. Governments are stepping up enforcement and shaping new frameworks even as global firms expand across the region, motivated by growing adoption. How policymakers and market players respond to these early tests will define the next phase of digital asset growth in Asia.
