Giving back

The project, called Dunamu Next Dream, is part of the company’s efforts to give back to the community by using revenue generated from Luna Classic (LUNC) transaction fees. In September of last year, Dunamu committed to allocating the LUNC transaction fee profits of 239.13025970 BTC to investor protection. After consulting with an external advisory committee, the exchange operator decided to donate around 3 billion KRW ($2.3 million) to public organizations and utilize the remaining funds to provide financial and credit support.

To implement the Dunamu Next Dream project, Dunamu entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Credit Counseling and Recovery Service (CCRS) and the Social Solidarity Bank (SSB) in April.

Two components

The project consists of two main components: financial consulting and emergency loans. The initial focus will be on financial consulting, which includes support for living expenses. The aim is to assist indebted youths in developing healthier financial habits. Financial experts will provide six sessions of financial consulting, addressing their recurring indebtedness and fostering financial independence. Additionally, each individual will be granted a living expense of 1.2 million KRW ($950) to ensure they can meet timely interest payments.

Dunamu will collaborate with the CCRS and the SSB to conduct a comprehensive review of applicants and select 150 deserving beneficiaries. The selection process will involve thorough evaluation through paper screening and interviews, allowing applicants to demonstrate their dedication and financial responsibility.

The second component of the project, emergency lending, will launch in September. It aims to provide interest-free loans of up to 2.5 million KRW to individuals facing immediate needs, such as medical fees.

Dunamu CEO Lee Sirgoo highlighted the importance of this project, emphasizing the challenges faced by young people who are the future leaders of society. The economic struggles they encounter can have significant repercussions for society as a whole. Accumulating debts has made it difficult for young individuals to achieve financial stability and advance their careers. Lee stressed the need for public awareness regarding this issue, as it is crucial for young people to establish themselves promptly within society.

FPG Halts Withdrawals Following Hack

FPG Halts Withdrawals Following HackFloating Point Group (FPG), a prominent crypto prime brokerage platform, has temporarily halted trading, deposits, and withdrawals following a cyber security incident that occurred on Sunday.Photo by Thom Milkovic on UnsplashIncident responseFPG, headquartered in Singapore while maintaining a base in Hoboken, New Jersey in the United States, manages over $50 billion in assets. The firm took immediate action upon discovering the incident by engaging third-party forensics experts and law enforcement agencies. The company acknowledged the problem publicly via a tweet thread on Twitter on Wednesday. FPG stated that the company has locked all third-party accounts and secured its wallets while it investigates the extent and details of the breach. Although the full extent of the loss is still under investigation, the current estimate stands at approximately $15 million to $20 million in lost cryptocurrencies.Investigative cooperationIn response to the incident, FPG is collaborating with the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, regulatory bodies, and Chainalysis to comprehend the nature of the attack and initiate asset recovery measures. As the investigation involving those entities is ongoing, specific details are not being disclosed at this stage, but FPG has pledged to provide updates as new information becomes available. The cyber security incident comes six months after FPG obtained a SOC 2 certification, which verifies the implementation of robust security, privacy, and control measures by service organizations to ensure the reliable handling of sensitive data and systems.Originally founded in 2018 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, FPG functions as both a crypto prime brokerage platform and an agency trading desk for asset managers, offering access to liquidity across various markets. In December, FPG announced that its blockchain foundation customers accounted for 5% of the total treasury management market.Backed by prominent investors such as Coinbase Ventures, Anthony Scaramucci of SkyBridge Capital, and Naval Ravikant, the founder of AngelList, FPG has raised a total of $12 million in funding thus far.In August of the previous year, FPG successfully registered as a virtual asset service provider (VASP) in the Cayman Islands. This registration ensured the secure custody of customer assets and safeguarded them from the company’s creditors in the unlikely event of bankruptcy.Broader crypto issuesIt has not been a good couple of weeks for the crypto sector relative to hacks and platform withdrawal pauses. Within the past twenty four hours, two Asia-based crypto lending platforms, Haru Invest and Delio, have suspended withdrawals. In those cases, the issue is suspected to relate to platform contagion and solvency issues.Earlier this month, the Atomic Wallet platform was hacked despite the understanding that the project offered self-custodial wallets. Originally, the loss was estimated at $35 million, but more recent reports are now estimating that figure to be in excess of $100 million. As FPG continues its efforts to mitigate the aftermath of the cyber attack, industry participants eagerly await further updates and measures undertaken by the company to recover from this incident and restore trust among its clients.

The collaboration aims to release a collection of 5,555 NFTs later this month.Photo by Andrey Metelev on UnsplashWhat is ‘The Moment3!’?Oddly, we know very little about the project. Its Telegram channel has just been established, it doesn’t have a website, while its Discord and Twitter channels are also recently established with modest followings. Anonymity is a feature in Web3 and perhaps that’s the approach this project is taking. Whatever the background, it has to be said that there must be some talent behind the project for it to secure the backing of an entity like AliExpress by way of this partnership. This recent announcement was initially made on AliExpress’ official Twitter account but that tweet has since been removed. The project itself tweeted out news of the partnership on Thursday. The Moment3!’s mission, as stated in its Twitter bio, revolves around utilizing NFTs to immortalize special moments on the blockchain.According to the project’s Discord channel, The Moment3! aims to connect with real-world businesses and provide NFT owners with benefits and exclusive rights beyond the collectible value.NFT debutThis marks AliExpress’ initial venture into the NFT market, although its parent company, Alibaba, has previously explored the Web3 space. In September 2022, Alibaba’s luxury shopping platform, Tmall Luxury Pavilion, introduced an immersive shopping metaverse experience and introduced the Meta Pass, granting users free access to virtual experiences.Alibaba-Centric Web3 projectsThere have been several other Web3-related investments and developments related to Alibaba Group companies in recent months.Last month, Alibaba Cloud, one of the world’s largest cloud computing companies, joined forces with the Avalanche layer one blockchain project to introduce “Cloudverse,” a launchpad facilitating the creation of personalized spaces within the metaverse for businesses. In April Alibaba Cloud was the co-organizer of the Web3 Festival, an event held in Hong Kong to showcase the autonomous Chinese territory for the development of the Web3 sector. The four-day event attracted 10,000 attendees. In early May, Artifact Labs, a Hong Kong-based start-up company that specializes in metaverse and Web3 product offerings, raised $3.25 million in a funding round led by Blue Pool Capital. The investment firm is the personal investment vehicle of Alibaba founders Jack Ma and Joe Tsai.NFT warningAliExpress, owned by Alibaba Group, is a global e-commerce platform that does not cater to customers in mainland China, despite being headquartered in China. The Chinese government prohibited all cryptocurrency transactions in September 2021. NFTs remained legal although authorities recently issued a warning on their use, together with some guidelines. With its new collaboration, AliExpress is expanding its reach into the Web3 space and exploring the potential of NFTs. As the release date approaches, anticipation grows to witness the specific features and benefits offered by the 5,555 NFTs that will soon be available to the public.

Following the acquisition, Krafton will hold an 85% stake in the joint venture, while Naver Z will possess the remaining 15%.Meaning behind ‘Overdare’The company has chosen the English word Overdare to convey two meanings–“dare too much” and “over there,” which has a phonetic resemblance. Through this name, the joint venture aspires to establish itself as a pioneer in the realm of interactive user-generated content (UGC) platforms. Simultaneously, its service aims to provide a place where users can freely and fearlessly express themselves. As a mobile UGC platform, Overdare offers users the ability to craft games of diverse genres, including action RPGs, sports games, and shooting games. Leveraging the power of generative artificial intelligence and the advanced capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, a renowned video game engine, the platform facilitates the streamlined creation of top-notch content. Beyond game development, users can immerse themselves in a wide array of social activities, ranging from personalizing their avatars to engaging in lively conversations.C2E systemOverdare has adopted a create-to-earn (C2E) system within the metaverse, empowering creators to produce their own content, which users can then purchase and own. Every transaction that takes place within the metaverse is recorded on the blockchain, and creators are duly compensated based on these transaction records. This system enhances the transparency of transactions and settlements.Compensation in USDCIn pursuit of this vision, Overdare has selected Settlus, a Cosmos-based blockchain developed by Krafton’s subsidiary of the same name, as its mainnet. Settlus has been dedicated to licensing creators’ intellectual property through NFTs on Web2 platforms.
