CVTX’s versatility

Built on Polygon, CVTX is integrated into the tokenomics ecosystem of CarrieVerse and its card strategy role-playing game (RPG) SuperKola Tactics. It is also the governance token for the CarrieVerse blockchain gaming platform Cling. CVTX can be traded for USDT on all of the exchanges it is listed on except for GOPAX, which offers a CVTX/KRW pair. KRW stands for Korean won.

Global expansion

Last month, CarrieVerse also joined the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), the UAE’s largest free-trade zone for blockchain and crypto companies, as a metaverse service provider. The platform has received approval to set up a local subsidiary there, which will serve as a base to expand its ecosystem, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

“The market value of CarrieVerse and CVTX is expected to significantly increase once the platform is released in target regions. This will serve as a foundation for more listings on major domestic and international exchanges,” the company said, adding that its number of daily active users has exceeded 5,000.

Korean Prosecutors Allocate $734K Budget for Crypto Crime Investigations

Korean Prosecutors Allocate $734K Budget for Crypto Crime InvestigationsThe South Korean Supreme Prosecutors’ Office has earmarked a budget of up to KRW 986 million (approximately $734,000) this year for investigations pertaining to virtual assets, according to data received by the local newspaper Law Times from the Ministry of Justice last Thursday. The significant size of the budget suggests that the prosecution is prioritizing efforts to combat the growing surge in virtual asset-related crimes.Photo by Tingey Injury Law Firm on UnsplashBudget divisionWithin this budget, KRW 778 million has been designated for the purchase of software licenses for virtual asset tracing and analysis equipment, while KRW 280 million has been allocated for an integrated strategic plan to establish a platform for analyzing and tracing unauthorized virtual asset transactions. The budget for this platform consists of preliminary planning costs. Related expenditures are expected to increase as the project is fully implemented.“It is true that our budgets are being concentrated on crimes related to virtual assets due to the fact that they have recently become a social issue,” said a prosecution official. “It may not be a lot compared to our overall budget, but assigning almost KRW 1 billion for one specific field of investigation is still a considerate amount.”Rising crypto crimesIn Korea, crimes associated with virtual assets have been increasing annually. This includes tax evasion, bribery, foreign exchange law violations, and money laundering, as well as cryptocurrency market issues including issuance, listing, and distribution. According to the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, reported cases of suspicious virtual asset transactions received by the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit (KoFIU) surged from an average of 66 cases per month in 2021 to 900 cases in 2022, then 943 cases in 2023 — a fourteen-fold increase in just three years.Subsequently, the scale of the damages caused by cryptocurrency crimes has also seen a sharp rise. The total value of all reported damages skyrocketed from KRW 467.4 billion in 2017 to KRW 1.02 trillion last year, more than doubling in five years. The cumulative loss over this period exceeds KRW 5.3 trillion.Focused effortsThe prosecution has thus dispatched financial experts from organizations including KoFIU and Korea Exchange to create a joint virtual asset crime investigation unit under the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office dedicated to investigating cryptocurrency crimes. The prosecution’s Cybercrime Investigation Division has also begun developing a tracking system optimized for the Korean market to trace the flow of virtual assets. The foreign software that is currently being used for tracking comes with considerable expenses and limitations, particularly for tracking flows within the domestic market, where there are many transactions involving smaller, locally-issued cryptocurrencies called “kimchi coins.”“We are dedicating our manpower and technological development to virtual asset investigations,” said a high-ranking official from the prosecution. “We will also strive to secure the budget necessary for these efforts.”

Metaplanet issues more bonds to buy Bitcoin & opens U.S. subsidiary

Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet has opened a U.S. subsidiary company in Florida while also issuing 3.6 billion Japanese yen ($24.7 million) in bonds for the purpose of buying more Bitcoin.Photo by Kanchanara on UnsplashAccelerating the Bitcoin strategyIn an announcement on May 1, the company outlined that it had established Metaplanet Treasury Corporation in Miami, Florida. The firm cited the purpose of the subsidiary as a means through which it can accelerate its overriding strategy of accumulating more Bitcoin. Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich commented on X on the rationale behind locating the U.S. subsidiary in Florida, stating:”The reason for choosing Florida is clear: the state is rapidly emerging as a global hub for Bitcoin innovation, corporate adoption and financial liberalization.” Gerovich added that the newly formed company will enhance Metaplanet’s “around-the-clock operational capabilities across time zones.” The Metaplanet CEO sees the development as part of the firm’s evolution as a global Bitcoin treasury company.  $250 million capital raiseThe company stated that it had already established a corporate entity in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), with the U.S. addition enhancing the company’s ability “to respond to market dynamics with speed and precision.”  Metaplanet intends to raise $250 million in funding through the Miami-based entity, having launched it with initial capital of $10 million. It’s envisaged that the U.S. subsidiary can act as a vehicle to attract institutional investment.  Back in March it was reported that Metaplanet was investigating the idea of listing its stock in the U.S. At the time, Gerovich stated that the firm was “considering the best way to make Metaplanet shares more accessible to investors around the world.” As part of that process, Gerovich met with officials from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq.  In further U.S.-related developments, the company appointed Eric Trump, second son of U.S. President Donald Trump, to its strategic board of advisors in March. Last week, Metaplanet appointed David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, to its strategic board of advisors. Bond issuanceIn a separate development, Metaplanet has issued 3.6 billion Japanese yen ($24.7 million) in 0% ordinary bonds to purchase additional Bitcoin. The company used its EVO FUND as the mechanism through which it issued the bonds.  It has set out a goal of accumulating 10,000 BTC by the end of the year. Currently, the company holds 5,000 BTC. One community member believes that Metaplanet could hit this target as early as July on the basis of ongoing share dilution.Appearing on The Bitcoin Treasuries Podcast earlier this year, Metaplanet’s Director of Bitcoin Strategy, Dylan LeClair, described how prior to adopting its Bitcoin treasury strategy in 2024, the firm was a “zombie” on the Tokyo stock exchange with the pandemic having had a negative impact on the company’s fortunes.  He outlined that the company consolidated and dealt with some debt issues, but at that point it lacked a clear strategy. It then set out to replicate the success of U.S. Bitcoin treasury pioneer, Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy). On May 1 Gerovich posted on X that the company had achieved unrealized gains on Bitcoin exceeding six billion yen ($41.68 million).

KuCoin invests in cross-chain inscription protocol

KuCoin, the Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange, has revealed a strategic move in its investment and incubation initiatives through the KuCoin Labs program. In a press release which was published on Tuesday, KuCoin announced its investment in ISSP, a project focused on developing an inscription protocol on the layer one Sui network, renowned for its throughput and scalability.Photo by Towfiqu barbhuiya on UnsplashFirst cross-chain inscription protocolISSP introduces the first cross-chain inscription protocol system, seamlessly integrating an inscription marketplace and inscription swap. The project is in its early stages. Last week ISSP took to social media to announce its inscription-related product launch. It stated:”We are launching the first multi-chain interoperability system for inscription protocols, focused on the BTC ecosystem to enable interoperability between BTC's inscription protocols and other chains.” With the launch, it’s introducing the Sui network’s first inscription protocol under the SUI-20 standard. Leveraging the unique Objects model of the Sui network, ISSP aims to naturally enhance inscription systems. Having already launched the SUI-20 inscription standard protocol on the Sui network, it is utilizing the built-in indexer of the network node to index inscription data. Seamless CEX inscription integrationTo ensure optimal performance and stability of inscription data, ISSP utilizes the indexer integrated into the Sui Chain node. Notably, ISSP facilitates the integration of inscriptions with centralized exchanges (CEX), eliminating the need for additional development to interface with inscription protocols. While the exact financial details of the investment remain undisclosed, ISSP plans to utilize the funds to expand its operations and further its development efforts. ISSP recently achieved a significant milestone by completing its Free Mint process, attracting 13,947 addresses and 2,002,186 transactions (TXs). The surge in user activity led to the Sui Chain's transactions per second (TPS) exceeding 1,000 for the first time. Sui-related investmentsThis marks KuCoin Ventures' continued interest in projects related to the Sui network. Last year, the exchange participated in a funding round for Cetus, a decentralized exchange (DEX) and concentrated liquidity protocol built on the Sui and Aptos blockchains. Alongside KuCoin Ventures, prominent investors such as Comma3 Ventures, AC Capital, Adaverse, Animoca Brands, Coin98 Ventures, IDG Capital, Leland Ventures, NGC Ventures and OKX supported Cetus. In April, the KuCoin crypto exchange actively promoted the SUI token as part of its Spotlight Token Program. The Sui Network seeks to distinguish itself as the first Layer 1 blockchain designed to cater to creators and developers targeting the next billion users in Web3. It provides horizontal scalability for diverse dApp development. Claiming to be a step-function advancement in blockchain technology, Sui prioritizes high throughput, instant settlement speeds, rich on-chain assets and user-friendly Web3 experiences. KuCoin's investment in ISSP underscores its commitment to supporting innovative projects on the Sui network, reinforcing the exchange's role in shaping the future of blockchain development. Similarly, the ISSP's product development demonstrates that following a big year for inscriptions in 2023, further progress is likely to unfold in 2024.
