HashKey to list platform token later this year

Web3 & Enterprise·June 25, 2024, 11:33 PM

Hong Kong-based digital asset financial services firm HashKey Group has announced its intention to list its platform token, HSK, in Q3 2024.

HSK tokenomics

The company set out details of the HSK listing via a series of posts on the X social media platform. The HSK token is based on the Ethereum ERC-20 token standard. Total token supply will be capped at one billion, 65% of which will be allocated towards ecosystem growth. The team will be incentivized by the allocation of 30% of the supply while 5% will be held back in a reserve fund.

Regarding the token’s burning mechanism, HashKey revealed it retains the discretion to repurchase up to 20% of net profits from specified businesses and subsequently burn the acquired tokens from the total supply.

Airdrop imminent

In a statement shared with The Block, HashKey Group detailed that HSK will be integrated across its various products and applications. The community airdrop, launching in late June, aims to encourage user participation. The company stated:

“HSK is scheduled to launch a community airdrop through HashKey's core businesses in late June, encouraging users to contribute to community building.”

The company believes that HSK will incentivize ecosystem contributors when it comes to development of its layer-2 ecosystem chain, the HashKey Chain. That incentive structure, the company maintains, will result in contributors “providing robust support,” while acting as a “driving force for on-chain users and assets.”

Integration with external ecosystems

The firm outlined that the HSK token is designed to integrate with external crypto ecosystems so as to best facilitate synergy between internal and external collaborations. HashKey Group boasts a comprehensive Web3 ecosystem, inclusive of infrastructure, middleware, AI, DeFi, GameFi and the Metaverse.

HashKey Group’s core businesses include HashKey Capital, HashKey Tokenisation and HashKey NFT. It also operates HashKey Exchange, a licensed cryptocurrency exchange in Hong Kong, with the exchange business having reached a $500 million assets-under-management (AUM) milestone earlier this month.

HashKey Cloud, a Web3 infrastructure provider, formed a strategic partnership with the Aptos Foundation last month with a view towards progressing projects relative to decentralized identity (DID) and security token offerings (STOs). HashKey Global, a global exchange launched in April, has risen to ninth spot in terms of overall crypto exchange trading volume.

In January, HashKey Group announced that it raised nearly $100 million in its Series A financing round, achieving a pre-money valuation above $1.2 billion. In September, the investment arm of the company, HashKey Capital, launched a $100 million fund focused on altcoins.

Philippines Regulator Collaborates with US Counterpart to Tackle Crypto Fraud

Philippines Regulator Collaborates with US Counterpart to Tackle Crypto FraudThe Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has taken a step towards addressing the escalating issue of crypto scams, seeking assistance from its namesake and international counterpart, the US SEC.The international partnership was announced via a Philippines SEC press release, published last Friday. The collaboration highlights the severity of a growing problem in terms of crypto-related fraud, underscoring the importance of inter-agency cooperation in tackling the issue.Photo by Krisia on PexelsJoint training effortsBoth SECs will engage in joint training sessions. The collaboration also involves cooperation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and it has been established under the umbrella of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). Notably, the Philippines SEC has also signed IOSCO’s Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at addressing crypto scams. The motivation behind these collaborative efforts is readily apparent given the scale of the cryptocurrency fraud that has occurred recently in the Philippines. Recent instances have captured the attention of the authorities, emphasizing the urgent need for regulatory action.Drawing on overseas enforcement experienceMost in the crypto sector are not enamored with US SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s stance relative to digital assets. Notwithstanding that, it may be that his assertive approach to enforcement may have a place in the Philippine context, given the extent of the issue of crypto fraud in the Southeast Asian country. For example, Gensler’s call for “more cops on the beat” to police the crypto industry, expressed in a Bloomberg Daybreak Podcast interview in July, resonates with the Philippines’ current predicament.Though Gensler’s remarks have been met with resistance from some quarters within the crypto industry, they may serve as sage advice in a climate where crypto-related crimes proliferate.Philippines SEC Chair Emilio Aquino outlined that the collaborative workshop involving the two securities commissions was aimed towards strengthening the capability of the Philippines’ SEC enforcement personnel in conducting investigations on securities-related crimes like insider trading, market manipulation, off-market fraud, and crypto scams.Aquino stated: “Scammers are becoming more advanced and sophisticated in their techniques as new technologies arise. As such, the SEC must constantly improve its investigation and enforcement capabilities to ensure that we are always one step ahead in preventing scams.”The Philippines, in particular, could benefit from a more robust regulatory presence to combat human trafficking networks and quash scams that tarnish the reputation of the crypto sector. These criminal activities have unfortunately led many to associate cryptocurrencies with fraud. The Philippines SEC Chair added that collaboration with US regulators and other enforcement agencies would likely guide the country in its pursuit of initiatives that lead towards the protection of the investing public. While expert training is essential, bolstering regulatory oversight, as suggested by Gensler, may be the key to mitigating the pervasive problem of crypto-related crime and protecting the integrity of the cryptocurrency sector.

Upbit lists Tottenham Hotspurs fan token

Upbit lists Tottenham Hotspurs fan tokenSouth Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange Upbit listed a fan token for the Tottenham Hotspurs — a world-renowned football club of the English Premier League and home to captain Son Heung-min, who also leads the South Korean national team — on its BTC market on Thursday (KST), according to an official announcement on the exchange’s homepage. Listed under the ticker symbol SPURS, the token is worth about KRW 6,000 ($4.60) as of this writing.Photo by Memories on 35mm on UnsplashExpanding football’s presence in cryptoUpbit added a total of 23 tokens to its BTC market this year, eight of which are fan tokens associated with football clubs, including Tottenham Hotspurs, AC Milan, Arsenal F.C., Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City F.C., Inter Milan and SSC Napoli, which the exchange signed a two-year partnership contract with in January. The team notably houses one of South Korea’s top footballers Kim Min-jae. Upbit also previously listed a Paris Saint-Germain token in 2021, which player Lee Kang-in recently joined this year. With the most recent addition of SPURS, Upbit now supports a total of ten football club fan tokens — all of which can only be traded on the sports blockchain network Chiliz Chain — highlighting its recognition of the sport’s popularity among Koreans. In particular, the Chiliz token (CHZ) also experienced a 10% price boost on Thursday when SPURS was listed.Upbit’s focus on footballHowever, Upbit’s consistent listing of football-related tokens contrasts with its overall modest approach to listing new cryptocurrencies this year. The exchange has introduced just 12 cryptocurrencies so far this year on its Korean won-denominated market, which is just a fraction of the 88 that were listed by Bithumb, South Korea’s second-largest exchange.Bithumb, which had already been supporting trading for SPURS on its Korean won-dominated market, also saw the token’s price double as a result of Upbit’s listing, jumping from around KRW 5,500 to KRW 11,300.
