WEMIX Championship 2023

The WEMIX Championship 2023, touted as the world’s first blockchain-assisted golf tournament, will take place from November 18 to 19 at Haeundae Beach Golf and Resort in Busan. The sports event will see participation from 24 players who are members of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA), including the top 20 athletes with the most WEMIX points, as they vie for victory in the season-ending competition.

Ticket NFTs for perks

The competition is leveraging blockchain technology across all its operations. Specifically, NILE is introducing Real World Event NFTs, which consist of two main types: “ticket NFTs,” which serve as admission tickets and vouchers, and “prize NFTs,” which are awarded to the competition’s winners.

Ticket NFTs are dynamic NFTs that provide a range of benefits depending on the selected tier. These benefits encompass souvenirs, food vouchers, and access to VIP-reserved facilities. There are two tiers to choose from: GROUND and NILE Suite. Golf enthusiasts can purchase these NFTs using WEMIX dollars (WEMIX$) through either the WEMIX Wallet or the una Wallet.

In addition, ticket NFT holders can verify their NFTs on the decentralized communication platform, PAPYRUS, to join a special channel dedicated to the WEMIX Championship 2023, where spectators can stay informed about the latest competition news and engage in real-time interactions with one another.

Looking ahead, Wemade plans to introduce additional sports events that utilize blockchain technology, aiming to provide fresh and engaging experiences while fostering a culture where both athletes and fans can fully enjoy sports competitions.

Chinese Prosecutors Issue Warning on NFTs

Chinese Prosecutors Issue Warning on NFTsIn recent days, China’s top procuratorial agency, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China, issued a warning alongside some guidelines on non-fungible tokens (NFTs).The Supreme People’s Procuratorate is the highest office in China charged with the mandate of upholding legal integrity, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and where necessary, conducting criminal investigations. In a statement published on Monday, the agency set out an advisory, together with additional recommendations, pertaining to NFTs.Photo by Markus Winkler on PexelsNFT status in ChinaWhile all and sundry are aware of a multi-year crack-down by the Chinese authorities on crypto in recent times, exemplified by a ban on crypto trading and the operation of crypto mining facilities within the country’s borders, the status of NFTs has been discussed to a much lesser degree.NFTs remain legal within the country. When the crypto trading ban came into play in 2021, much of the local industry connected with that trading activity disappeared. However, in its place, a newly emergent trend came to the fore in the form of NFTs. With cryptocurrencies perceived as being high risk and sanctioned by the authorities, attention turned to NFTs and there has been a surge of adoption of the digital collectibles within China as a consequence.NFT risksThe procuratorial agency highlighted a number of attributes as well as risks in relation to NFTs in the report that it published. The agency finds the issue of ownership of NFTs as a troublesome one. It cites the fact that NFTs can be replicated and distributed at will on this basis as being particularly problematic. The legitimacy of the right source of the work itself is the decisive factor for the healthy and orderly development of digital works NFT transactions,” it states. It appears that the agency, like many in traditional professional circles before them, have a difficulty recognizing the model of asset ownership that NFTs incorporate. That ownership is not defined by civil law or in accordance with centralized systems but by simply the possession of the requisite private key pertaining to a given NFT within a decentralized system.Blockchain, not cryptoThe agency acknowledged that NFTs do present a novel application of blockchain technology. This is not surprising as while there might be an ongoing clampdown on decentralized cryptocurrencies in China, officials at a national level and in numerous instances within regional administrations, are demonstrating a strategy of leveraging blockchain technology for the betterment of the Chinese economy in the future.Public prosecutor Wang Xia-fen, one of the authors of the report, stated: “It’s widely recognized that digital collectibles have the potential to protect intellectual property rights, boost content creation and enrich the digital economy.” Wang encouraged public prosecutors to “find the distinction between real innovation and criminal activities” where NFTs are concerned. The upshot of its report though, is that the procuratorial agency is uncomfortable with the similarity of many of the attributes of NFTs when compared with decentralized cryptocurrencies. It issued a warning on that basis, emphasizing a need for risk assessment to be carried out and further consideration of the legal risks that are implicated.

Hitachi collaborates with Concordium on biometric crypto wallet

Hitachi collaborates with Concordium on biometric crypto walletJapan’s Hitachi Solutions, a subsidiary company of the Hitachi multinational conglomerate, has joined forces with the Concordium Foundation, unveiling a collaboration that centers on a state-of-the-art biometric crypto wallet.Photo by Nuno Antunes on UnsplashAlternative approach to securing cryptoAnnounced on Tuesday by the Concordium Foundation, a Swiss-based development team behind the Concordium layer one blockchain, this “proof of technology” initiative has the potential to fundamentally change how users access and secure their cryptocurrency accounts.Breaking away from traditional methods, the proposed biometric crypto wallet leverages users’ fingerprints or facial scans to generate a set of seed words, eliminating the need for users to store or remember them. This novel approach simplifies the restoration process, allowing users to recover their accounts with a mere biometric scan.Improving UXIf crypto and Web3 are to be adopted by ordinary people en-masse, user experience has long been identified within the sector as an area that still requires development. Making users responsible for the storage of a private key is fraught with difficulty, given the likelihood of private keys being lost or compromised.Various approaches are being taken to solve this issue. Tangem Wallet is one such alternative that utilizes near-field communication (NFC) in combination with an app and a card with an inbuilt chip, negating the need for the user to memorize a private key. This biometric-centered approach from Hitachi and Concordium represents another user-friendly approach to the problem of user authentication, harnessing the power of Hitachi’s Public Biometric Infrastructure (PBI) and Concordium’s self-sovereign identity framework. The result is an account creation process based entirely on biometric data, enhancing both security and user convenience.Complementary technologyConcordium’s network, with its stringent ID process for account creation to combat malicious activities, stands to gain substantial benefits from this technology. The biometric wallet will fortify users’ access to their IDs, a critical aspect of network security. Moreover, the technology’s applicability extends beyond Concordium, offering potential integration with any blockchain network.Users of the biometric wallet will have the flexibility to unlock their accounts either by regenerating seed words through a biometric scan or by decrypting a copy of the seed words. This dual-layered approach ensures that access is granted solely through the user’s unique biometric data, enhancing security and mitigating the risk of loss or theft.Developing this cutting-edge technology poses challenges, particularly in handling the inherent “fuzziness” of biometric data, where no two scans produce identical results, even from the same individual. Hitachi’s team addressed this by employing fuzzy key generation and specialized error correction technology, effectively distinguishing between scans.Unlike traditional crypto wallets that necessitate secure storage of seed words, the biometric wallet by Hitachi and Concordium, alongside solutions like multiparty-computation wallets and magic links, aims to overcome this hurdle. The goal is to resolve the issue of lost backup, a significant barrier to wider crypto adoption. This is not Hitachi’s first foray into the crypto/blockchain space. In mid-November the company announced a collaboration with the Japan Exchange Group (JPX), banking giant Nomura and Nomura portfolio company BOOSTRY to launch a $69 million digital green bond on the blockchain. In October Hitachi joined a consortium of Japanese companies with a view towards developing decentralized identity technology.

'Heroes of Mavia' token airdrop follows entry into crypto gaming sphere

The blockchain gaming realm witnessed another milestone moment as "Heroes of Mavia," the mobile gaming sensation backed by Vietnam-based Skrice Studios, set the stage for a token airdrop on Tuesday, according to an announcement by the studio. Top free mobile game on AndroidJust days since its launch on both Apple and Android platforms, "Heroes of Mavia" has surged past the milestone of 1 million downloads, with an impressive 230,000 daily active users already immersed in its captivating world. Garnering acclaim as the top free mobile game on Android devices in China and dominating the Google Play store charts in Nigeria, the game's ascent continues with high rankings in Poland, Finland and Canada on Apple's App Store, according to Skrice Studios. While the quest to propel blockchain gaming into the mainstream remains a formidable challenge, "Heroes of Mavia" is already carving a path to success. Joining the ranks of ambitious gaming ventures vying for mainstream acclaim, including "Star Atlas," "Illuvium" and "Shrapnel," its promising trajectory is marked by its early triumphs.Photo by LinkedIn Sales Navigator on Pexels100,000 benefit from airdropA grand total of 100,000 players have earned eligibility for today's token airdrop of the MAVIA token, with a generous allocation of up to 6,250,000 tokens available for claim, representing 2.5% of the total token supply of 250 million. With a valuation soaring to $100 million, Skrice Studios stands as a testament to its remarkable growth since its last funding round two years ago, which saw an infusion of $2.5 million led by Crypto.com Capital. The studio's ascent was further fueled by a $5.5 million seed round in 2021 spearheaded by Binance Labs. In total, Skrice Studios has amassed $9 million in funding, as disclosed in its latest statement. The studio's enduring appeal has attracted notable venture capital firms keen on blockchain gaming, evidenced by its seed round in January 2022. Led by Binance Labs, that round also saw participation from esteemed investors such as Genblock Capital, Delphi Digital, Mechanism Capital, Alameda Research and Animoca Brands, among others. In a strategic move to ensure the sustainability and vitality of its in-game economy, "Heroes of Mavia" officially enlisted in Machinations’ Game Economy Health Monitoring Service. The Machinations platform can be harnessed to design and predict game economies and systems for play-to-earn blockchain games. Drawing parallels to the iconic Clash of Clans, "Heroes of Mavia," captivates players with its strategic depth, emphasizing base building, resource management and immersive tactical combat. The highly anticipated "Heroes of Mavia" token commenced trading at 7 a.m. ET on Tuesday on major exchanges such as Bybit, KuCoin and HTX, debuting with a unit price of $1.83. As of the latest update, the token is trading at $3.62, signaling a promising start to its trading journey. Blockchain gaming emerged through projects such as Axie Infinity, developed by Vietnam’s Sky Mavis. Engaging gameplay didn’t factor in the first play-to-earn iteration. However, through projects like Heroes of Mavia, 2024 could prove to be very different.
