“We’re excited to share news about our fundraising round,” said Chris Jang, Co-CEO of ZTX. “We have been building steadily and discreetly for well over a year, and with our token launch happening in the coming months we want to emphasize the commitment that our investors, just like our team, have toward our vision to provide an infrastructure layer to creators.”

Global backing for ZTX

The latest funding round led by Web3 infrastructure firm Jump Crypto attracted investors from around the world, such as Parataxis Capital, MZ Web3 Fund, Collab+Currency, and more, due to its promising outlook in the Web3 sphere.

“We believe that ZTX has the potential to create a unique world, setting it apart from all other Web3 metaverse projects. The seamless integration of digital asset creation and trading in the metaverse with Web3 technology is truly exciting, making their application within Web3 applications a natural fit. Moreover, the ZTX team’s expertise in both the metaverse and Web3 is exceptional, and we have high expectations for their future endeavors,” said Yuki Kanayama, General Partner at MZ Web3 Fund.

Strong foundation and team expertise

ZTX’s creator ZEPETO also offers solid promise as South Korea’s leading metaverse platform that touts over 400 million lifetime users. It is the fourth-largest metaverse platform in the world, holding its spot among the same ranks as Roblox, Fortnite, and Minecraft. It has also partnered with major brands such as Gucci and Starbucks along with celebrities like the K-pop girl group Blackpink.

Made up of industry veterans from tech and Web3 giants like Apple, Roblox, Solana, Cosmos, and more, the ZTX team plans to utilize its various underlying advantages to globalize Web3 and bring it to a wider mainstream audience.

The team has consistently been building the ZTX ecosystem from the ground up. In a recent development, the platform ran its first private, invite-only beta test last month, dubbed “Playtest”. It has also worked with Dust Labs, the software provider for NFT projects such as DeGods and y00ts, to launch ZTX Partner Wearables, a community-driven initiative that provides tools to IP partners for creating 3D assets and contributing to the expansion of the narrative within an open-world environment.

“As a crypto-focused venture fund, we back visionary teams who are using decentralized technology to shape the next wave of consumer products. We are thrilled to be part of this round, supporting ZTX’s exceptional team and their unique advantages. ZTX can provide a distinct infrastructure layer for diverse NFT projects and Web3 builders with its creator-focused tooling, and we look forward to helping ZTX succeed in its ambitious mission,” said Stephen McKeon, Partner at Collab+Currency.

Future project

ZTX’s upcoming activities include the launch of the Genesis Home Mint, featuring 4,000 bespoke 3D District Homes. This collection offers benefits such as a district membership in one of the four districts — Arts, Financial, Fashion, and Games — as well as exclusive access to future releases, events, and enhanced gameplay experiences within ZTX.

Blockchain investment firm Hashed invests $28.4 million in 29 projects in 2023

Hashed, a blockchain-focused investment firm with bases in Seoul and San Francisco, announced on Tuesday (KST) that it has invested a total of KRW 36.8 billion ($28.4 million) in 29 distinct projects over the course of this year, as reported by Korean news outlet Etoday.Photo by Mathieu Stern on UnsplashInfrastructure, gaming and financeThe Web3 investor has distributed its funds across various sectors, allocating 21% each to infrastructure, gaming and finance. Geographically, their investments were also diverse: South Korea has received 38% of the funds, North America 21% and Europe 7%. Other Asian countries, including Singapore, accounted for 34%. Of the 29 investments Hashed undertook, 20 were new additions. The company participated in seed funding rounds for a variety of ventures: Radius, a shared sequencing layer; Decentralised Gaming Ventures, a builder of Web3 games; AnotherBall, the company behind the VTuber platform Izumo; and Delabs Games, a studio focused on Web3 gaming. The remaining nine were follow-up investments. Among these projects were Archway, a Cosmos-based layer 1 blockchain; Payhere, a provider of mobile point-of-sale (POS) systems; and Dfns, an API-first key management solution. Hashed Ventures, the company’s investment arm, oversees two funds: one with a capital of KRW 120 billion and the other with KRW 240 billion. Through these funds, Hashed has invested in a total of 86 portfolio companies. This year, some of their notable investments include public chain project Aptos, Web3 startup Story Protocol and decentralized exchange dYdX. It’s also noteworthy that 55% of the larger fund has been allocated to Korean companies. Blockchain community and talent developmentHashed’s impact in the blockchain sector extends beyond just financial investments. The Web3 company has supported the organization of approximately 80 meet-ups, including university hackathons and academic blockchain conferences. A notable example of their initiatives is Korea Blockchain Week, co-hosted annually with Web3 ecosystem builder Factblock since 2018. This event has become one of Asia’s largest blockchain gatherings, drawing over 10,000 visitors. In addition to these events, Hashed has been keen on nurturing talent in the blockchain space. Their Protocol Camp, a boot camp aimed at developing Web3 builders, has successfully produced 59 developers across five sessions. Furthermore, Hashed Open Research, the firm’s research division, is actively involved in shaping the blockchain landscape. They engage in research, organize seminars, and publish findings, all with the goal of offering policy recommendations and advancing understanding in the field. Hashed has reinforced its management system for portfolio companies, focusing on supporting early-stage startups. Their efforts include building a community dedicated to startup support, aiding in recruitment and business development strategies, providing data analysis services and engaging in promotional activities. Reflecting on the past year, Simon Seojoon Kim, CEO of Hashed, acknowledged that 2023 posed challenges for startups. However, he pointed out that the relatively calm market conditions provided Hashed with opportunities to uncover a range of innovative ideas. These ideas, according to Kim, have the potential to make significant contributions to the development of blockchain infrastructure and its applications in real-world scenarios. Looking forward, Kim expressed optimism about the growth prospects of their portfolio companies in the coming year. This optimism is partly based on the potential approval of spot bitcoin ETFs, which he believes could usher in robust participation from institutional investors. Additionally, Kim anticipates further growth driven by the expected launch of wallets by major global platforms, indicating a promising and dynamic future for the blockchain industry and Hashed’s investments.

Binance Labs clarifies involvement in SkyArk Chonicles’ latest funding round

SkyArk Chronicles, a Singapore-based Triple-A gaming platform, recently announced the completion of a $15 million funding round that it suggested was led by Binance Labs, the venture arm of the leading global crypto platform. Binance has subsequently moved to clarify that it is not involved in the latest funding initiative.Photo by Laurin Steffens on UnsplashBacked by Binance since 2021The gaming ecosystem, which has enjoyed the backing of Binance since 2021, expressed excitement about the successful completion of the funding round. On Jan. 12, SkyArk posted on social media platform X, suggesting that Binance led the recent funding round but the project has since deleted that post. The post mentioned the participation of more than 40 institutions in the funding round, including Vividthree Productions, a Singapore-based company. It didn’t disclose the amount it claimed was invested by Binance Labs at that time. The announcement also highlighted contributions from other notable entities in the NFT and gaming space, such as GuildFi Global, Jambo Technology and BreederDAO. Additionally, individual investors like LayerZero CEO Bryan Pellegrino, Tangent Ventures Co-Founder Wangarian and Story Protocol CEO S.Y. Lee were all claimed by the project to have made noteworthy contributions to SkyArk's funding initiative. Binance Labs denialHowever, recent developments have introduced an element of uncertainty. Binance Labs, in an X post on Monday, distanced itself from SkyArk Chronicles' latest funding round. Contrary to the earlier announcement, Binance Labs clarified that it did not participate in SkyArk's $15 million funding round earlier this month. The venture arm reiterated its sole investment in SkyArk during the Incubation Season 3 program in 2021. This clarification from Binance Labs raised concerns about the accuracy of SkyArk Chronicles' earlier announcement, leading to SkyArk posting to confirm the information supplied by Binance. That post states: “We are very sorry for the miscommunication and appreciate the clarification from Binance Labs. We remain focused on making SkyArk a success and will continue working hard to achieve our vision.” Community reactionThe saga has caused some concern within the community, underscoring the need for transparency in the cryptocurrency and gaming industries. Web3 and NFT consultancy firm Vader Research commented on the development, stating:”SkyArk didn’t raise a new private round at all. They circulated the 2021 funding round announcement as if it recently occurred and used that to raise $11m from the public.” In a subsequent post, Vader added that Binance still has considerable leverage where SkyArk is concerned, as it retains the right to decide whether to list the SkyArk token on the platform. SkyArk Chronicles had a history of collaboration with Binance, dating back to 2021 when Binance selected SkyArk Studio for its prestigious Incubator Program Season 3. Out of over 1,000 applicants, SkyArk Studio was one of the nine teams chosen, emphasizing its potential in the blockchain and gaming space. In a follow-up post on Monday, SkyArk co-founder Kelvin Chua expressed his gratitude to Binance for its support over the past three years. The gaming platform, led by seasoned professionals in traditional mobile games, aspires to revolutionize the gaming sector worldwide. Their focus on launching Fully-On-Chain and Only-Assets-On-Chain games sets them apart, with a commitment to incorporating NFTs seamlessly into various gameplay styles.
