Singapore-based Web3 metaverse platform ZTX, a joint blockchain venture by ZEPETO and Jump Crypto, has raised a total of $13 million in its most recent seed funding round. “We’re excited to share news about our fundraising round,” said Chris Jang, Co-CEO of ZTX. “We have been building steadily and discreetly for well over a year, and with our token launch happening in the coming months we want to emphasize the commitment that our investors, just like our team, have toward our vision to provide an infrastructure layer to creators.”

Global backing for ZTX

The latest funding round led by Web3 infrastructure firm Jump Crypto attracted investors from around the world, such as Parataxis Capital, MZ Web3 Fund, Collab+Currency, and more, due to its promising outlook in the Web3 sphere.

“We believe that ZTX has the potential to create a unique world, setting it apart from all other Web3 metaverse projects. The seamless integration of digital asset creation and trading in the metaverse with Web3 technology is truly exciting, making their application within Web3 applications a natural fit. Moreover, the ZTX team’s expertise in both the metaverse and Web3 is exceptional, and we have high expectations for their future endeavors,” said Yuki Kanayama, General Partner at MZ Web3 Fund.

Strong foundation and team expertise

ZTX’s creator ZEPETO also offers solid promise as South Korea’s leading metaverse platform that touts over 400 million lifetime users. It is the fourth-largest metaverse platform in the world, holding its spot among the same ranks as Roblox, Fortnite, and Minecraft. It has also partnered with major brands such as Gucci and Starbucks along with celebrities like the K-pop girl group Blackpink.

Made up of industry veterans from tech and Web3 giants like Apple, Roblox, Solana, Cosmos, and more, the ZTX team plans to utilize its various underlying advantages to globalize Web3 and bring it to a wider mainstream audience.

The team has consistently been building the ZTX ecosystem from the ground up. In a recent development, the platform ran its first private, invite-only beta test last month, dubbed “Playtest”. It has also worked with Dust Labs, the software provider for NFT projects such as DeGods and y00ts, to launch ZTX Partner Wearables, a community-driven initiative that provides tools to IP partners for creating 3D assets and contributing to the expansion of the narrative within an open-world environment.

“As a crypto-focused venture fund, we back visionary teams who are using decentralized technology to shape the next wave of consumer products. We are thrilled to be part of this round, supporting ZTX’s exceptional team and their unique advantages. ZTX can provide a distinct infrastructure layer for diverse NFT projects and Web3 builders with its creator-focused tooling, and we look forward to helping ZTX succeed in its ambitious mission,” said Stephen McKeon, Partner at Collab+Currency.

Future project

ZTX’s upcoming activities include the launch of the Genesis Home Mint, featuring 4,000 bespoke 3D District Homes. This collection offers benefits such as a district membership in one of the four districts — Arts, Financial, Fashion, and Games — as well as exclusive access to future releases, events, and enhanced gameplay experiences within ZTX.

BitMEX Returns to Derivatives Arena with Prediction Market

BitMEX Returns to Derivatives Arena with Prediction MarketBitMEX, a name synonymous with the early days of crypto derivatives, has made a return to its core focus with the launch of a prediction market.Through this new product, the company aims to captivate traders by offering them the opportunity to wager on real-world events, effectively extending the boundaries of crypto derivatives trading.Photo by Amjith S on UnsplashBetting on the outcome of real-world eventsThis shift in direction is being overseen by Stephan Lutz who took the helm as CEO and group CFO in 2021.In a blog post announcing the product launch on Tuesday, the firm expressed its vision for the prediction market, asserting that it would introduce an entirely new dimension to crypto derivatives trading. The product is designed to diversify traders’ portfolios and yield returns based on predicting the outcomes of real-world occurrences, an offering that the company feels holds significant promise. Especially in bear markets characterized by subdued volatility, the prediction market could serve as a valuable instrument for traders seeking to enhance their strategies.Novel initial wagersBitMEX’s inaugural move into the prediction market sees the firm offer an array of contracts for traders to explore. Among those initial offerings are contracts enabling wagers on various outcomes, such as the percentage recovery rate of FTX’s bankruptcy claims and the likelihood of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approving a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) by October 17. These contracts underscore BitMEX’s intent in covering a wide spectrum of topics, with the firm promising to introduce more options in the near future. The prediction market holds the potential to revolutionize the way traders engage with real-world events, introducing a novel form of participation that transcends traditional trading boundaries. This launch has significant potential for BitMEX as it endeavors to reclaim its position in the competitive crypto derivatives market.Change of strategyUnder the stewardship of former CEO Alexander Höptner, BitMEX embarked on a diversification strategy termed “beyond derivatives,” delving into areas like spot trading and exploring new business avenues. However, the departure of Höptner in October ushered in a change in direction for the firm. The introduction of the prediction market now symbolizes BitMEX’s return to its foundational business model, with a renewed focus on derivatives. In May, the Seychelles-headquartered firm introduced perpetual contracts relative to SUI and PEPE tokens. Later that month, it launched a dedicated virtual asset service to Hong Kong-based customers. Hong Kong was its original center of operations when the company was first formed. It has since moved those operations to Singapore while maintaining its corporate presence in the Seychelles.BitMEX’s fresh foray into the derivatives space not only signifies a return to its roots but also presents traders with a means to trade relative to real-world events. By offering an eclectic range of contracts, the platform seeks to attract traders who crave more than conventional crypto trading. This strategic move could serve as a catalyst for BitMEX as it strives to regain its foothold in the competitive crypto sector.

OKX launches OKX TR in Turkey

Leading global crypto exchange platform OKX has officially launched OKX TR, a specialized crypto exchange tailored to meet the needs of users in Turkey. This unveiling, announced on Feb. 27, marks a significant stride in the company’s efforts to offer Turkish users greater access to cryptocurrency trading and decentralized finance (DeFi).Photo by Engin Yapici on UnsplashOKX Wallet integrationOKX TR has integrated OKX's Web3 wallet, providing Turkish users with access to a wide array of features. The wallet offers a user-friendly portal for trading non-fungible tokens (NFTs), utilizing decentralized applications (dApps). Noteworthy features of the OKX Wallet include multi-party computation (MPC) technology and account abstraction (AA), enhancing accessibility for users with varying levels of technical expertise.OKX TR introduces localized features designed to cater specifically to Turkish users, including direct deposits and withdrawals in Turkish Lira, facilitated through strategic partnerships with banking institutions such as Fibabanka, VakıfBank, Ziraat Bankası, İş Bankası, Şekerbank and Türkiye Finans. The platform offers a range of major cryptocurrency pairs for trading, including USDT/TRY, BTC/TRY and ETH/TRY.  Moreover, OKX TR prioritizes user experience by providing round-the-clock customer support in both Turkish and English, attempting to provide prompt assistance and comprehensive guidance whenever needed. Crypto adoption backdropThe platform’s arrival should contribute further towards the burgeoning crypto ecosystem in Turkey, a market boasting a close to 50% adoption rate for cryptocurrencies. A report by OKX rival platform KuCoin back in August of last year found that there had been a significant increase in crypto users in Turkey over the course of the previous 18 months.  It’s believed that crypto adoption in Turkey is being driven partly by its role as a financial lifeline amid economic challenges. The country’s sovereign currency, the lira, has suffered from runaway inflation in recent years. On social media OKX Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Haider Rafique wrote that the new service offers “lightning fast signup and funding,” alongside the “lowest fees in the market.” Mehmet Çamır, Chairman of OKX TR, outlined that the company had first announced expansion into Turkey in May 2023. Çamır set out the company’s intentions within the Turkish market, stating:"The launch of OKX TR represents more than just an expansion; it signifies our pledge to equip users with a transparent, compliant and user-friendly gateway to the world of blockchain. . . . We can unlock the vast potential of the Turkish crypto community and pave the way towards a future where finance is more inclusive and transparent.” Turkey is in the process of introducing a raft of crypto regulations, primarily with the intention of enabling it to be removed from the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) “grey list.” In December, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed blockchain and cryptocurrency expert Fatma Ozkul to the Turkish central bank’s rate-setting committee. Those moves demonstrate some positive progress from the point of Erdogan’s statement in 2021 when he declared “a war on crypto.”

Swoo Pay partners with Mastercard to target Southeast Asian market

Netherlands-based mobile wallet Swoo Pay has joined forces with global financial giant Mastercard to target the Southeast Asian market, offering crypto cashback on everyday purchases. Crypto loyalty tokensThe partnership was announced via a press release published on Cointelegraph earlier this week. Through Swoo's platform, users stand to gain crypto rewards, specifically Swoo Loyalty Tokens, for each contactless payment made via the app using digitized Mastercard cards. The partnership marks yet another step forward in the convergence of traditional financial systems with the burgeoning world of cryptocurrency. It reflects a broader trend among major financial institutions and retailers, who increasingly view cryptocurrency integration as a means to revitalize loyalty programs. Once users accrue “Tokenback” in the form of Swoo Loyalty Tokens, they have the flexibility to either exchange their rewards for popular cryptocurrencies like USDT or BTC within the Swoo app or convert them into fiat currency through partnering services. As Swoo continues to refine its crypto rewards platform, it will incorporate more Web3 features, further enhancing the utility and value of loyalty tokens within its ecosystem.Photo by Markus Winkler on UnsplashTargeting emerging marketsSwoo Pay is targeting emerging markets. Alongside Southeast Asia, that also brings the Middle East region and Africa within the scope of its marketing efforts for this product offering. Emerging markets have long been seen as ideal markets within which to bring about crypto adoption more generally. The significance of this announcement wasn’t lost on Nicki Sanders, chief technology officer (CTO) with tokenized real estate enterprise, Realio. Taking to social media, Sanders cited crypto adoption as one of three main reasons as to why this partnership could be a game-changer.   Sanders feels that the nature of the offering will result in crypto adoption as daily crypto use will be boosted. In turn, that will bring digital currencies into the realm of mainstream acceptability. She also feels that the product offering will be significant in terms of financial inclusion as it’s very accessible to underserved communities. Additionally, Sanders identifies the inherent innovation as being likely to result in mass adoption. “Focusing on Android and Huawei users, Swoo Pay navigates around Google service sanctions, offering a fresh pathway to digital payments,” she claims. This partnership builds upon the success of a previous trial campaign dubbed “Super Tokenback with Mastercard.” During the three-week initiative, users enjoyed 5% Tokenback (crypto cashback) on all Mastercard purchases made through Swoo Pay. The results were positive, with over 17,000 participants conducting upwards of 128,000 transactions. Not only did this drive increase card spend, but it also introduced a wave of new consumers to the concept of crypto-backed rewards. Representatives from Swoo emphasize the seamless integration of crypto into mainstream markets, ensuring compliance with local regulations and simplifying the launch and scalability of marketing campaigns to attract new users. Conversely, officials from Mastercard underscore the company's commitment to expanding the possibilities of digital payment instruments, prioritizing convenience, technological advancement and security. They highlight the role of Swoo Pay in addressing issues with tokenized payments for Android device users, thereby broadening accessibility to these innovative financial solutions.
