Kandle Secures Funding for Platform Development

Web3 & Enterprise·July 27, 2023, 1:35 AM

Singapore-based crypto fantasy GameFi startup Kandle has recently secured $1.7 million in a seed funding round, with Saama Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in early and growth stage tech sector companies, leading the investment.

Other participants in the funding round included PointOne Capital, Cloud Capital, Good Capital, Founder’s Room, Seeders Fund, and Sumit Gupta, CEO of crypto investment platform CoinDCX.

The GameFi concept is an innovative fusion of blockchain technology, gaming, and decentralized finance, allowing players to earn cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) while playing games on the platform. Additionally, GameFi enables the transfer of in-game items to the virtual world, enabling trade on NFT marketplaces and crypto exchanges.

Expansion plans

Kandle stands out by offering fantasy games that incorporate crypto tokens, where players compete to win various rewards. Already gaining traction in Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia and Vietnam, as well as in burgeoning markets such as Nigeria and India, Kandle has ambitious plans to expand its footprint across Asia and North America.

As part of its efforts to realize that expansion, funding is being used to build out the Kandle platform further, expanding its user base into the bargain. Founder Jaideep Yadav expressed enthusiasm about the potential of gaming and crypto coming together, positioning Kandle at the forefront of this evolving landscape.

Yadav stated: “There is a massive opportunity at the intersection of gaming and crypto, and we’re excited to be at the forefront of this evolution in crypto fantasy gaming. Super grateful for the unwavering support of our investors as we forge ahead in bringing the vision of Kandle to fruition. “

Project roadmap

Looking ahead, Kandle aims to unveil its project roadmap, which will include token issuance, token utility, and a play-and-win model designed to reimagine the play-to-earn ecosystem. Notably, Kandle has taken a unique approach by prioritizing the development of a fully functioning, sustainable gaming product based on sound gaming principles rather than merely focusing on project tokens. The team plans to integrate smart contracts to ensure transparency, security, and fairness in the gaming experience.

Ash Lilani, the Managing Partner at Saama Capital, commented on the importance of making the crypto industry safer for the next wave of users. He praised Kandle’s gamified approach for providing a secure and unique way for users to engage with crypto without taking direct exposure to any specific coins.

Kandle’s funding success signifies the increasing interest and investment in the GameFi space, which merges the excitement of gaming with the possibilities offered by blockchain and cryptocurrencies. News of the investment comes within the same time frame as an announcement by Sky Mavis, the team behind Axie Infinity, which is also Singapore-headquartered, which sees it partner with CyberKongz, an Ethereum-based non-fungible token collection.

The development of blockchain gaming has not progressed in a neat straight line. It’s been imperfect but ongoing activity in the sector suggests that ultimately, GameFi start-ups will continue to evolve until such time as a mass market breakthrough is made in gaming.

KuCoin invests in cross-chain inscription protocol

KuCoin, the Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange, has revealed a strategic move in its investment and incubation initiatives through the KuCoin Labs program. In a press release which was published on Tuesday, KuCoin announced its investment in ISSP, a project focused on developing an inscription protocol on the layer one Sui network, renowned for its throughput and scalability.Photo by Towfiqu barbhuiya on UnsplashFirst cross-chain inscription protocolISSP introduces the first cross-chain inscription protocol system, seamlessly integrating an inscription marketplace and inscription swap. The project is in its early stages. Last week ISSP took to social media to announce its inscription-related product launch. It stated:”We are launching the first multi-chain interoperability system for inscription protocols, focused on the BTC ecosystem to enable interoperability between BTC's inscription protocols and other chains.” With the launch, it’s introducing the Sui network’s first inscription protocol under the SUI-20 standard. Leveraging the unique Objects model of the Sui network, ISSP aims to naturally enhance inscription systems. Having already launched the SUI-20 inscription standard protocol on the Sui network, it is utilizing the built-in indexer of the network node to index inscription data. Seamless CEX inscription integrationTo ensure optimal performance and stability of inscription data, ISSP utilizes the indexer integrated into the Sui Chain node. Notably, ISSP facilitates the integration of inscriptions with centralized exchanges (CEX), eliminating the need for additional development to interface with inscription protocols. While the exact financial details of the investment remain undisclosed, ISSP plans to utilize the funds to expand its operations and further its development efforts. ISSP recently achieved a significant milestone by completing its Free Mint process, attracting 13,947 addresses and 2,002,186 transactions (TXs). The surge in user activity led to the Sui Chain's transactions per second (TPS) exceeding 1,000 for the first time. Sui-related investmentsThis marks KuCoin Ventures' continued interest in projects related to the Sui network. Last year, the exchange participated in a funding round for Cetus, a decentralized exchange (DEX) and concentrated liquidity protocol built on the Sui and Aptos blockchains. Alongside KuCoin Ventures, prominent investors such as Comma3 Ventures, AC Capital, Adaverse, Animoca Brands, Coin98 Ventures, IDG Capital, Leland Ventures, NGC Ventures and OKX supported Cetus. In April, the KuCoin crypto exchange actively promoted the SUI token as part of its Spotlight Token Program. The Sui Network seeks to distinguish itself as the first Layer 1 blockchain designed to cater to creators and developers targeting the next billion users in Web3. It provides horizontal scalability for diverse dApp development. Claiming to be a step-function advancement in blockchain technology, Sui prioritizes high throughput, instant settlement speeds, rich on-chain assets and user-friendly Web3 experiences. KuCoin's investment in ISSP underscores its commitment to supporting innovative projects on the Sui network, reinforcing the exchange's role in shaping the future of blockchain development. Similarly, the ISSP's product development demonstrates that following a big year for inscriptions in 2023, further progress is likely to unfold in 2024.

Market speculates on Qatari investment driving bitcoin price surge

Market speculates on Qatari investment driving bitcoin price surgeRumors are circulating within the cryptocurrency space that Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund may have dabbled in investing in bitcoin, leading to the recent surge in the bitcoin unit price.Such a move, while still an unconfirmed speculation, would be indicative of the increasing recognition of Bitcoin as a mainstream asset class. At the time of writing, bitcoin stands at $44,000. That represents a 16% increase over the space of the past week and a 166% increase since the beginning of the year.Photo by Yiğit Ali Atasoy on UnsplashKeiser’s claimAccording to outspoken Bitcoin advocate Max Keiser, Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund (QSWF), responsible for managing the nation’s significant oil and gas-generated wealth, is considering allocating up to $500 billion to the leading cryptocurrency. To provide context, this investment would eclipse the publicly disclosed bitcoin holdings of MicroStrategy, founded by Michael Saylor, by an astonishing 671 times. MicroStrategy currently holds the position of the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, with 174,530 BTC acquired in November.Keiser speculates that the QSWF’s monumental investment could propel bitcoin’s price to new highs, reaching $100,000. Keiser tweeted:“The God Candle, a $100,000 uptick in #Bitcoin is in play. It will shift the global axis of wealth and power in 1 tick.”Custodia Bank Founder and CEO Caitlin Long shared a similar view on the X social media platform on Wednesday, pointing out that in September the Emir of Qatar had visited El Salvador and met with President Nayib Bukele. The inference is that it would have been an interest in bitcoin that may have provided the motivation for that visit, given that Bukele and El Salvador have adopted bitcoin as a sovereign currency. However, not everyone is on board with this theory. Some have pointed out that the assertion that the QSWF will invest $500 billion into bitcoin is impossible, given that the fund has $475 billion under management.Bitcoin advocate Luke Broyles weighed in on the rumor, emphasizing the crucial interplay between bitcoin’s supply and demand. Broyles highlighted the $76 billion worth of BTC still available on crypto exchanges, underscoring the fundamental principle of bitcoin’s fixed supply. According to Broyles, any substantial investment would inevitably drive prices higher. However, Broyles remains skeptical of the Qatar news, deeming it a rumor, and expressed shock if it proves remotely true. That view has led many back to the original speculation in relation to this most recent price action, the illusive bitcoin spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) approval in the United States. Some activity in recent days has suggested that BlackRock, the world’s largest fund manager, has been doing preparatory work for the launch of its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF. Not everyone was positive on the topic of Bitcoin on Wednesday, however. Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, testified before the U.S. Congress on Wednesday, stating “If I were the government I’d close [Bitcoin] down.”
