Dunamu

Bae Jin-hee, a recruiting manager at Dunamu, the operator of Korean crypto exchange Upbit, spoke about the company’s history and culture. Dunamu was founded in 2012 by Song Chi-hyung, and since then, it has launched several projects, including news curation service Newsmate, listed share trading app Stockplus, crypto exchange Upbit, and unlisted share trading app Ustockplus. In addition to these projects, Dunamu has also entered the NFT and metaverse markets with enterprises like Upbit NFT, 2nd block, and Levvels.

Bae highlighted Dunamu’s horizontal organizational culture, which promotes respect for and consideration of diverse employee opinions. The company has no dress codes and encourages the use of English names to reduce hierarchical communication barriers. Dunamu also offers benefits like housing loans, high-end laptops, and adjustable desks to its employees.

Coinone

Hyung Yoon-sun, the human resources team leader at Coinone, another Korean crypto exchange, also spoke at the seminar. Like Dunamu, Coinone also boasts a horizontal corporate culture, which helps eliminate communication barriers. The company has implemented software that enables employees to work together on documents in real time, which has speeded up work processes.

Hyung underscored Coinone’s commitment to security, demonstrated by its ISMS and ISO27001 certifications, and 24-hour control system. Employee benefits at Coinone include preferential loans, family-inclusive insurance plans, health check-ups, and long-term leaves.

Hyung noted that Coinone previously focused on enhancing its exchange functionalities and hiring developers, but now it is seeking individuals who can contribute to the exchange’s sustainable management in compliance with financial authorities’ standards. Such roles involve anti-money laundering, transaction support, and legal support.

IOTA accelerates Middle East expansion with $100M foundation launch

IOTA accelerates Middle East expansion with $100M foundation launchIn a move aimed at catalyzing the adoption of its distributed ledger technology (DLT) in the Middle East, the Berlin-headquartered IOTA Foundation, the developmental force behind the IOTA-directed acyclic graph-based ledger network, unveiled a $100 million foundation in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.Photo by Imtiyaz Ali on UnsplashTokenizing real-world assetsThe IOTA Foundation announced details of the initiative, known as the IOTA Ecosystem DLT Foundation, via a blog post published on its website on Wednesday. The new foundation is designed to facilitate the transformation of tangible assets into digital entities, marking a significant stride in the convergence of real-world assets with the digital realm, according to IOTA Co-founder and Chairman Dominik Schiener.Taking to the X platform, Schiener wrote:”We will double down on our efforts to bring the real world to Web3. We will pave the way to tokenize RWA [Real World Assets] assets on #IOTA and work with the governments in the UAE, across the Middle East and Africa to digitize their trade infrastructure and tokenize assets. We will make Blockchain real, with real use cases, real adoption, real yield and real assets.”IOTA is not a blockchain, but a related distributed ledger technology. DLT has garnered attention for its diverse applications over the past decade. IOTA’s digital tokens will serve as the financial backbone for this substantial investment, signaling a strategic move amidst recent setbacks in the cryptocurrency sector.Regulatory first in Abu DhabiThe IOTA Ecosystem DLT Foundation stands out as the first blockchain-focused foundation sanctioned by the regulatory authorities of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), a key financial hub within the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The ADGM solidified its blockchain regulations in early November, creating a conducive environment for innovative blockchain-focused entities. The regulatory framework was crafted to offer a comprehensive structure specifically for DLT foundations and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).Schiener expanded further on plans for the DLT Foundation:”With a new headquarter in the UAE, we are positioning IOTA from being an Enterprise Blockchain in Europe, to becoming one of the largest, global Crypto ecosystems. We will fully support Web3 and DeFi use cases on IOTA with the #EVM launch in Q1.”Endowed with over $100 million in IOTA tokens, the foundation’s funds will be gradually vested over the next four years. The financial infusion is earmarked for the development and expansion of the IOTA network. Additionally, IOTA will embark on asset “tokenization,” a process involving the representation of ownership rights for land or buildings as digital tokens stored on a blockchain. These tokens, akin to digital certificates of ownership, extend to virtually any valuable object.IOTA launched in 2015, and within its first two years, it rose to be a top-ten crypto project on the basis of market capitalization. Over the course of the last six years, the project has struggled to make the network less centralized. There have also been internal conflicts, which resulted in a number of the project’s co-founders stepping away from the project. With this latest development, Schiener suggested that IOTA could work its way back to being a top-ten project once again.

IOTA commits $10M to advance tokenization in UAE

At the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) 13th Ministerial Conference (MC-13) in Abu Dhabi, a consortium of major global institutions including distributed ledger project IOTA came together to ink a landmark pact aimed at enhancing digital trade, including the tokenization of real-world assets. The agreement, termed the Teaming Agreement, signifies a collective effort to propel digital trade forward, emphasizing the creation of an open, non-profit and inclusive digital infrastructure for trade data sharing. The initiative involves IOTA’s recently-formed Abu Dhabi-based IOTA Ecosystem DLT Foundation.Photo by Belinda Fewings on UnsplashCapital pledgeThe Foundation has pledged an investment of $10 million towards early-stage startups focusing on digital trade and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs). These investments, to be unveiled publicly over the next few weeks, will support TradeTech or trade finance technology ventures and provide assistance to startups utilizing IOTA through an accelerator program. The signatories to the Teaming Agreement include esteemed organizations such as the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Institute of Export and International Trade, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI), the IOTA Foundation, TradeMark Africa and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation (GATF). This collaboration brings together a diverse range of expertise and resources, blending tech and trade proficiency to streamline supply chains and customs procedures. More efficient cross-border tradeThe primary objective of the agreement is to foster collaboration and information sharing across global supply chains, with the aim of reducing barriers and enhancing inclusivity in international trade. By leveraging digital infrastructures, the coalition aims to minimize the time and cost associated with cross-border trade, thus promoting greater participation in global commerce. The timing of this agreement is particularly pertinent, given the multitude of challenges facing global supply chains. Threats such as attacks on shipping routes and the potential rise of protectionist policies underscore the necessity for enhanced information sharing and cooperation across trade networks. Trade Logistics Information Pipeline (TLIP)At the core of this initiative lies the Trade Logistics Information Pipeline (TLIP), a public global trade infrastructure developed by TradeMark Africa in collaboration with the IOTA Foundation. Leveraging open-source technology, TLIP facilitates seamless information exchange in international trade, promoting transparency and inclusivity while empowering participants to retain control over their data. The implementation of TLIP is expected to address challenges such as document loss, information discrepancies and fraud, thereby fostering a more efficient and secure global trade ecosystem. Commenting on the development, IOTA Co-Founder Dominic Schiener stated:"By investing in the future of TradeTech, we are not just facilitating smoother trade transactions; we are laying the groundwork for a more interconnected and efficient global trade ecosystem. Our collaboration with leading organizations through the TLIP is a testament to our commitment to innovation and excellence in this field." In a separate positive development for the IOTA project on Feb. 29, Jelle Millenaar, the co-founder of Impierce Technologies and a former IOTA software engineer, outlined that his company intends to develop a digital identity wallet on top of the IOTA Identity framework. The intention is to build a wallet that is compliant with digital identity regulation within the European Union.
