Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, who has pleaded guilty to violating money laundering laws, has requested that a U.S. federal judge sentence him to probation, according to Cointelegraph which cited an April 23 filing. His legal team, supporting this request, has submitted several declarations, including a description of the potential conditions at the Federal Detention Center (FDC) SeaTac in Washington, where Zhao could serve if sentenced to prison. Robert Palmquist, former warden of FDC SeaTac from 2003 to 2009, described the facility as poorly lit and understaffed. FDC SeaTac currently houses 794 inmates and has previously detained notable figures including "crypto-anarchist" Jim Bell. U.S. prosecutors are calling for a 36-month prison sentence for Zhao, who is currently out on $175 million bail. His sentencing is scheduled for April 30.
