US House ag leaders urge Trump to fill CFTC seats ahead of CLARITY Act vote

May 15, 2026, 11:00 PM
The Republican chairman and Democratic ranking member of the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture, Glenn Thompson and Angie Craig, have urged President Donald Trump to nominate a full slate of commissioners for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Cointelegraph reported. They cited the need for a major regulatory overhaul if the CLARITY Act is passed. The CFTC is currently operating with only a single commissioner, Chairman Michael Selig. The CLARITY Act would expand the CFTC's authority over virtual assets and is expected to have a significant impact on the industry if it proceeds to a Senate vote.
