U.S. Republican lawmakers are feeling a renewed sense of urgency to pass the CLARITY Act, according to Eleanor Terrett, host of the crypto policy outlet CryptoInAmerica. She attributed this to mounting political pressure following a debate over a housing bill and the approaching deadline. Terrett explained that when senators return from recess on July 13, they will have only 20 working days to pass the bill in the Senate and send it back to the House before the August recess. However, she noted that several key issues, including ethics provisions in the bill, remain unresolved.
Separately, Kristin Smith, head of the Solana Policy Institute, reported that active discussions are underway among the Senate, the White House, and crypto industry stakeholders, with key negotiators meeting daily. Prominent pro-crypto Senator Cynthia Lummis has previously stated her goal is to have the Senate pass the CLARITY Act in July.
