DOJ memo says Binance to tighten crypto freeze procedures

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) reportedly informed prosecutors that Binance would make its procedures for cooperating with investigations more difficult starting June 8, according to BeInCrypto. Citing an internal memo, the outlet said the DOJ told its crypto case lawyers that Binance would no longer offer its courtesy freeze service for assets. The memo reportedly stated that Binance will now require a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) or other formal legal process for requests to freeze accounts and seize assets, a procedure that can take weeks or months due to the need for inter-governmental coordination. Binance refuted the report, stating there has been no change in its cooperation with U.S. law enforcement.
