The U.S. SEC has retreated in part in a public records lawsuit with crypto exchange Coinbase, agreeing to pay Coinbase $150,000 in legal costs and change how it preserves and discloses internal records, Cointelegraph reported. Coinbase has pursued the FOIA case seeking documents on how the SEC has applied crypto regulations.
Paul Grewal, Coinbase’s chief legal officer, described the outcome as a meaningful victory that will help ensure financial regulators disclose information honestly rather than conceal it. Under the settlement, the SEC agreed to improve its information management practices, while Coinbase said the result could help establish more transparent rules across the broader crypto market.
