Bitcoin governance seen as key variable in quantum-computing response

July 27, 2026, 6:53 AM
German crypto asset manager DDA (Deutsche Digital Assets) said Bitcoin’s governance structure is one reason advances in quantum computing could pose a threat to the network. DDA said financial institutions such as JPMorgan could shift to quantum-resistant cryptography through board approval and budget execution alone, while Bitcoin would require consensus among participants worldwide. DDA added decentralized networks may adopt quantum-resistant cryptography more slowly than traditional financial institutions, and said this reflects not so much a weakness in Bitcoin as a need to take its governance process seriously.
