Thune seen filing Clarity Act cloture motion as early as Aug. 6

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has not yet filed a cloture motion to begin Senate consideration of the Clarity Act, Eleanor Terrett reported, as delays in handling a stopgap funding bill have pushed back the chamber’s procedural schedule. Once those procedural hurdles tied to the temporary budget measure are cleared, Thune is expected to file the cloture motion as early as Aug. 6, according to the report. Support for the vote threshold of at least 60 senators has not yet been firmly secured, while disagreements over the bill’s provisions persist across party lines and within factions.
