Nvidia-backed AI computing buildout may widen gap with decentralized networks

August 11, 2026, 10:24 AM
Nvidia (NVDA) is seeking to attract more than $500 billion in outside funding for AI computing infrastructure with major Wall Street financial firms, a move that could widen the gap with blockchain-based decentralized computing networks such as Render and Akash, CoinDesk analyzed. According to Epoch AI, even the largest decentralized AI training network currently operates at about one-300th the processing capacity of cutting-edge data centers. CoinDesk cited limits including low network bandwidth, the cost of verifying computing results, a lack of enterprise-grade service guarantees, and the difficulty of moving large volumes of data. Nvidia previously signed related memorandums of understanding with six financial firms: Apollo Global Management, Blackstone, BlackRock, Brookfield Asset Management, Goldman Sachs, and KKR.
