Blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs said Iran’s Mabna Institute has moved about $16.8 million worth of cryptocurrency since 2018 using 30 Bitcoin, Ethereum (ETH), and TRON (TRX) addresses. Mabna is currently accused of leading organized hacking-for-hire campaigns on behalf of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other Iranian clients.
TRM Labs added that U.S. prosecutors have charged 17 members of the group and alleged five of them took part in the HBO hack, in which about $6 million worth of Bitcoin was demanded as ransom.
