South Korea’s Financial Intelligence Unit is verifying whether registered virtual asset service providers are actually operating business management and legal compliance systems covering areas such as organization, staffing and IT infrastructure, Etoday reported.
According to a 2026 supplementary filing status sheet obtained by Etoday on Sept. 6, the FIU requires 44 key review items to be submitted by registered VASPs. Reporting requirements for VASPs have been expanded to include financial status and social credibility, the eligibility of major shareholders, organization, personnel, IT infrastructure, internal controls and legal compliance systems. Existing registered operators must also complete supplementary filings by Nov. 20 and undergo another review under the strengthened standards.
The key review items consist of 17 items on organization, personnel, IT infrastructure and internal controls, and 27 items on legal compliance systems. The first group is broken down into three staffing items, two organizational items, 10 IT infrastructure items and two internal control items. The legal compliance category includes 15 anti-money laundering items, eight items under the Virtual Asset User Protection Act and four other user protection items.
The status sheet is a follow-up measure to apply the tougher reporting requirements to existing operators after revised Special Financial Transactions Information Act rules took effect on Aug. 20.
