Solana to roll out transaction v1 on Sept. 9, raising max size more than threefold

September 07, 2026, 12:25 PM
Solana will introduce transaction v1 on its mainnet on Sept. 9, CoinDesk reported. The upgrade will raise the maximum transaction size to 4,096 bytes from 1,232 bytes, an increase of about 3.3 times. The change will allow some large-scale on-chain operations that previously had to be split across multiple transactions to be handled in a single transaction. It is also expected to make it easier to use zero-knowledge proofs, large multisig setups and some signature methods, including BLS. The new 4,096-byte cap was set with the 4 KB memory page size used in validator hardware in mind. The upgrade is being carried out under Solana improvement proposals SIMD-0296 and SIMD-0385. Legacy and v0 transactions will continue to be supported, while applications and infrastructure seeking to use v1 transactions will need separate updates. CoinNess previously reported that some in the Solana community had raised concerns about compatibility issues in parts of the infrastructure ahead of the mainnet rollout of the v1 transaction format.
