AfD election win may boost calls to keep Germany’s BTC tax exemption

September 08, 2026, 6:02 AM
Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party won 43.8% of the vote in the Saxony-Anhalt state election, which could strengthen its influence in political debate over crypto tax reform even though the result does not directly change federal tax law, Cryptopolitan reported. The party has argued for maintaining the current policy under which gains from BTC sales are not taxed if the holdings are kept for more than 12 months. It also opposes bringing individual mining and Lightning Network node operations into the scope of business taxation.
