Lummis says Democrats do not care about consumer protection or U.S. leadership

A cloture vote in the U.S. Senate to advance the CLARITY Act, a bill on crypto market structure, failed, after which Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis said Democratic senators had shown today they were not genuinely interested in consumer protection or preserving U.S. leadership. In a post on X, Lummis said Democrats shifted their demands during negotiations with Senate Democrats for more than a year and changed the terms as soon as Republicans met those demands. Lummis also said Democrats voted against U.S. leadership and handed overseas competitors, including China, what they wanted. Lummis further argued Democrats once again put politics ahead of the American people and yielded to what Lummis described as a radical socialist base, calling the Democratic Party anti-American. Meanwhile, Crypto In America host Eleanor Terrett said Cynthia Lummis, whom Terrett described as a key architect of the CLARITY Act, did not speak with reporters immediately after the vote.
