Bitcoin Standard Treasury, or BSTR, the Bitcoin accumulation company tied to Adam Back, plans to remain private for the time being, CIO Sean Bill said at the Bitcoin Treasury Conference. Bill added in verbatim English, "again," and said any renewed push to go public would likely require a bull market, while the company is reassessing its structure from the ground up to find the best fit.
In July, BSTR was reported to be renegotiating merger terms with special purpose acquisition company Cantor Equity Partners, or CEPO.

The U.S. SEC has updated its crypto FAQ on token buybacks, according to Crypto in America host Eleanor Terrett. The update newly adds that if there is no central party leading a token buyback, it is less likely to qualify as an investment contract.
Last week, a16z Crypto head of policy and general counsel Miles Jennings pointed to the previous wording, reproducing the English phrase "central party" and saying there could be room to ensure that an issuer’s announcement of a buyback program would not by itself establish an investment contract.

Crypto-friendly U.S. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce said she still regrets not trying earlier to establish cryptocurrency regulatory policy, The Block reported in an interview ahead of her scheduled departure on Oct. 2.
Peirce said the U.S. crypto industry lost a great deal while being tied up in unnecessary regulatory and enforcement battles. She added that it would have been better if both regulators and the industry had directed that energy toward building a sound regulatory framework that better protects investors and developers, which in turn would have created a harsher environment for people seeking to exploit the crypto label for abuse. While the regret remains, Peirce said the experience will serve as an important lesson by showing how long the effects can last, and how many people can be harmed, when policy moves in the wrong direction for an extended period.
Peirce also said there are fundamental issues the government needs to address, particularly making developers feel protected. She said developers should be able to focus on research without fearing liability if someone misuses tools they create for illegal activity. Peirce added policymakers should also consider how new cryptocurrency technology can be developed and applied while protecting Americans' personal data more efficiently and effectively, and said she regrets she will no longer be able to take part in those efforts.
After nearly nine years at the SEC, Peirce is set to join Regent University School of Law as an associate professor in November.

After the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said 84% of crypto wallets tied to Iran and sanctioned by the U.S. and Israel processed all or nearly all transactions in Tether, Tether pushed back, saying it froze about $550 million worth of Iran-linked USDT in 2026. Tether said it has worked with U.S. and international law enforcement authorities to comply with relevant regulations and also cooperated with the economic sanctions Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently imposed on Iran. Tether added it has consistently shown USDT is not a safe haven for sanctioned actors, terrorist groups, or criminal networks, and stressed that U.S. authorities including the Department of Justice, the FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control have repeatedly acknowledged its role in major law enforcement operations.

Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet challenged an analysis suggesting only about 30% of Bitcoin is exposed to quantum-computing attack risk, stressing that public keys can be exposed through xpubs, devices, PSBTs, logs and backups, not just through spent on-chain outputs. Citing Glassnode data, Guillemet said about 30.2% of BTC has exposed spent public keys on-chain, but added that public keys are also revealed during BTC transfers before transactions are confirmed. Guillemet emphasized that if sufficiently fast quantum computers emerge, hiding public keys alone would not be enough and Bitcoin would ultimately need to transition to a quantum-resistant cryptographic system.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, the top Democrat on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, urged an immediate investigation into Tether and accountability for potential sanctions violations involving Iran after 84% of crypto wallets tied to Iran and sanctioned by the U.S. and Israel were found to have handled all or nearly all transactions in Tether’s USDT.
Blumenthal said Tether and USDT had become central to Iran’s shadow financial system and argued the Trump administration’s apparent failure to properly oversee crypto issuers had undermined U.S. national security interests. For that reason, Blumenthal said the Treasury Department and Justice Department should immediately investigate Tether and pursue accountability over potential Iran-related sanctions violations.
