Strategy posted about $20.91 billion in mark-to-market gains on its Bitcoin holdings in the third quarter, exceeding Meta’s $19.0 billion in operating profit for the same period, Bitcoin.com reported. The third-quarter gain on Strategy’s BTC holdings would rank seventh among S&P 500 companies on that basis. Even so, mark-to-market losses of $14.46 billion in the first quarter and $8.32 billion in the second quarter left the company with a cumulative mark-to-market loss of about $1.87 billion for the first nine months of 2026. Strategy currently holds 848,000 BTC, and would need Bitcoin to stay around $85,750 through year-end to erase its year-to-date losses. According to CoinMarketCap, BTC was recently trading at $86,243.61, up 0.17%.

Strive CEO Matt Cole said on a podcast that institutional investors account for a larger share of holders in the company’s floating-rate perpetual preferred stock SATA than in Strategy’s perpetual preferred stock STRC. Cole said the gap stems from investor protections built into SATA. Under the structure, Strive cannot lower the dividend rate until the stock’s monthly average price rises above $99, and if it fails to pay dividends, the company bears a greater burden, he said, adding that the design strengthens investor protections. Separately, Strive is pursuing share buybacks of SATA worth up to $500 million and held 29,462 BTC as of Oct. 2.

A CryptoQuant analysis by contributor Darkfost found sustained large-scale net Bitcoin outflows from Binance, suggesting more assets may be moving off the exchange for longer-term holding. Darkfost said Binance’s BTC reserves fell from 704,800 BTC on Sept. 20 to 663,100 BTC recently. That implies more than 40,000 BTC, worth about $3.3 billion, moved off the exchange over roughly 15 days. Binance also recorded net outflows of 23,100 BTC last week, the largest weekly net outflow since June 2023, according to Darkfost. The analyst added exchange withdrawals can be associated with long-term holding or accumulation and may help support BTC prices alongside easing selling pressure.

Binance Research said four of five historical cases similar to Bitcoin’s 47% rebound from its July low went on to retest the bottom within a short period. In a recent report, Binance Research examined cases in which Bitcoin rose at least 40% from a cycle low while still trading more than 25% below its all-time high. It said there were seven such cases between 2011 and 2023, and after excluding two instances in which BTC had fallen 75.5% and 67.1% from its all-time high, four of the remaining five retested the low within 43 days. The only exception was in July 2021. Binance Research said the current rebound is the second attempt from a similar position in cycle terms, meaning the size of the decline so far alone cannot rule out a retest of the low. It added that the scenario is a probability estimate based on past cases, not a prediction. It also said a typical October upswing could support the current rebound’s continuation, while weakness would suggest there is not enough momentum for further gains. According to CoinMarketCap, BTC was trading at $85,981.55, up 0.04%, at the time of writing.

A cold wallet address managed by Binance, beginning with 34xp4, holds 248,598 BTC, making it the largest single Bitcoin address, Crypto Briefing reported, citing Arkham data. According to Arkham, the holdings accounted for about 1.24% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply at the time. Bitcoin began flowing into the address in October 2018, and a total of 5,531 deposits had been recorded as of July 4. No withdrawals have occurred from the address since Jan. 7, 2023. The report added, however, that the BTC does not necessarily all belong to Binance itself, as it may include customer assets held by the exchange.

Bitcoin whales, or large holders, accumulated more than 14,335 BTC worth $1.22 billion in October based on on-chain data, a move that well-known crypto trader Ali Martinez said may signal positioning for a rally toward $100,000. Martinez said BTC traded between $83,000 and $86,700 over the past two weeks, while URPD, an on-chain metric showing where investors bought and sold most heavily, indicated a key support zone between $83,300 and $84,600. If that support holds and BTC breaks back above $86,700, there is no comparable supply concentration zone until around $105,000, Martinez said. He added that the whale accumulation appears to reflect that setup, making $100,000 a realistic target if support remains intact and BTC clears resistance at the top of its range.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin said at the OKX NOW event in Singapore that AI could emerge as a new user interface. Buterin said users may eventually direct AI agents to handle complex blockchain tasks instead of relying on traditional graphical interfaces, making that approach more common over time. He added that this could reduce some security risks tied to existing front ends, while also creating new challenges such as prompt injection, AI safety, and whether agents can accurately understand and execute on-chain tasks.

Bitcoin is currently down 32% from its all-time high of $126,000 recorded on Oct. 6 last year, but the decline is far smaller than in past cycles, according to a CoinDesk analysis. CoinDesk said Bitcoin’s drawdown one year after prior cycle peaks was 69.7% in 2013, 82.3% in 2017 and 74.6% in 2021. It added that the maximum decline in the current cycle was 53%, smaller than the 77% to 85% seen in past bear markets. Experts cited a larger share of institutional capital from ETFs, asset managers and companies, along with lower leverage, as the main reasons. CoinDesk said institutional money tends to buy back during price declines to maintain target allocations, helping ease the kind of cascading liquidations seen in earlier cycles. The outlet added that as the market has matured and Bitcoin volatility has fallen, future upside may also be more limited than in the past.

Bitcoin rose over the 12 months following all three past U.S. midterm elections, though whether that pattern will repeat this time will depend on interest rates, buying demand and the regulatory environment, CryptoQuant contributor XWIN Japan said. XWIN Japan said BTC gained 24.5%, 44.9% and 92.3% over the 12 months following the 2014, 2018 and 2022 midterm elections, respectively. In 2018, however, BTC also fell 45.5% in the first month after the election. The S&P 500, meanwhile, rose in every case over the 12 months following 19 U.S. midterm elections since 1950, with an average gain of 15.4%, XWIN Japan said. Still, XWIN Japan added that Bitcoin's sample size is limited to just three cases, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions about future performance based on historical patterns alone. Stability in U.S. Treasury yields, sustained buying demand and progress on regulation will be key this time, XWIN Japan said.
