Bitcoin could face additional selling pressure as short-term holders take profits and market liquidity weakens, according to an AMBCrypto analysis.
The outlet said about 86% of the Bitcoin sent to exchanges in early October came from short-term holders sitting on gains, signaling some recent buyers may move to lock in profits. If selling outweighs buying demand, routine profit-taking could turn into heavier selling pressure, it said.
AMBCrypto added that more investors moved into profit after September’s price recovery, while average daily trading volume in the spot market and U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs remained around $6.8 billion, indicating liquidity was not strong enough. BTC has repeatedly tested support around $80,000 over the past two weeks, and if that level breaks, the next major support would be $75,000, according to the analysis.

Nasdaq-listed Super League bought its first BTC for $83,041.40 on Oct. 10, according to Crypto Briefing, which cited an SEC Form 8-K filing disclosed by the company on Oct. 13. The company said it is considering Bitcoin as a treasury asset to hold alongside cash, but it has not made an official announcement confirming a broader purchase plan.
In August, Super League signed an investment agreement with Metaplanet, a Japan-listed company focused on a Bitcoin accumulation strategy, tied to the launch of U.S. Bitcoin treasury platform Superplanet. Once the third-party allotment capital increase is completed, Super League will change its name to Superplanet, Inc., while Metaplanet will secure about 95.7% of Superplanet’s issued shares and consolidate it as a subsidiary. Media coverage said Super League’s purchase of 1 BTC before receiving the 2,100 BTC appears intended to prepare custody and accounting processes.

Bitcoin holdings on cryptocurrency exchanges have continued to decline, potentially creating conditions favorable for further price gains, according to a CryptoQuant analysis.
CryptoQuant researcher Rei Researcher said in a recent report that exchange-held Bitcoin fell to 2.67 million BTC from 2.8 million BTC in February. If buying demand recovers while exchange supply remains low, the resulting supply-demand imbalance could support a longer-term price rise, Rei Researcher said. The researcher added that the continued decline in exchange reserves despite Bitcoin’s recent rebound from local lows suggests the tradable supply available in the market is still shrinking.

Investors who bought near prior highs are still limiting Bitcoin’s upside, according to Glassnode. As Bitcoin moved higher, investors who bought one to two years ago sold on a large scale, Glassnode said. Since then, Bitcoin’s rally has stalled near $88,000, the average cost basis of investors who bought six to 12 months ago, and has failed to break above that level. Glassnode added that selling by the one- to two-year cohort has since slowed sharply.

The U.S. SEC’s move to ease its quorum requirement could make it easier to advance cryptocurrency-related rulemaking, Cointelegraph reported. The outlet said the SEC and the U.S. CFTC are currently pursuing regulatory decisions affecting the roughly $3 trillion crypto market with just three commissioners in total, as leadership vacancies persist at both agencies, which were each designed to have five commissioners.
The SEC announced a final rule on Sept. 30 changing its quorum requirement, and the measure took effect on Oct. 2. Under the revision, if certain conditions are met when only two commissioners remain, one commissioner can constitute a quorum.
Meanwhile, as passage of a digital asset market structure bill has been delayed in the U.S. Congress, the SEC and CFTC are moving to draft their own rules using existing legal authority, according to the report. The CFTC also said it would pursue a crypto regulatory proposal related to exchanges in October. The White House has not announced additional nominees to fill vacancies at either agency, and Cointelegraph said decision-making power in crypto rulemaking at the SEC and CFTC is likely to remain concentrated in a small number of commissioners for the time being.

On-chain analyst Darkfost said rising U.S. Treasury yields and a stronger dollar are putting downward pressure on Bitcoin prices.
Darkfost said the U.S. Dollar Index, or DXY, had risen 5.5% since Sept. 9 to 102.57, the highest level in about 18 months since April 2025. Darkfost added that higher Treasury yields and a stronger dollar are constraining market liquidity and weakening institutional investors’ appetite for risk assets. With Bitcoin still viewed as a relatively high-risk asset, traditional financial markets such as tech stocks and the S&P 500 are absorbing limited liquidity, creating an unfavorable environment for Bitcoin.

Coinbase has published a technical discussion paper on preparing Bitcoin for potential quantum-computing threats, urging the network to begin migration planning as soon as possible.
The exchange said Bitcoin should respond proactively to possible cryptographic risks from quantum computers in the future. Coinbase said a quantum-resistant Bitcoin upgrade cannot be solved simply by choosing a new quantum-resistant signature algorithm, adding that multiple factors must be considered together, including block-space constraints, full-node verification capacity, institutional asset custody requirements, compatibility with retail wallets, and how to handle funds that cannot be migrated. Coinbase also stressed the migration could take years and said preparations should be completed before any quantum-computing threat becomes a reality.
