Bitcoin has recovered the $80,000 level after absorbing a short-term shock tied to the U.S. midterm election results, but caution is warranted on chasing the move as futures open interest remained flat and spot inflows stayed weak, according to CoinDesk. CoinDesk said Bitcoin showed a short-term rebound, but two key drivers needed to sustain further gains were missing. First, Bitcoin futures open interest stayed around $53.4 billion, signaling no clear sign of fresh capital entering the market. Second, U.S. spot ETF net inflows totaled just $74 million, while the Coinbase premium remained negative, indicating U.S. institutional spot demand was still subdued. The recent rebound was driven largely by a broad short squeeze as Treasury yields fell and the dollar weakened. Of the $450 million in crypto short positions liquidated over the past 24 hours, Bitcoin accounted for $300 million, the highest level since Sept. 21. Analysts said that after the initial rebound led by short covering, a second leg higher would require meaningful net spot inflows. Major exchanges and research firms characterized the rally as a simple relief rally and recommended phased buying and conservative position management until U.S. labor market data and ETF fund flows provide clearer direction.

The company said its high-density colocation business drove the revenue increase. Calls are growing in the crypto industry to adopt traditional finance risk controls such as trade reviews and settlement delays after the recent Binance hack, Bloomberg reported. Tianzheng, CEO of crypto hedge fund Third Eye, said the industry could consider shortening the traditional T+1 settlement cycle to T+1 hour. A set settlement delay and review process could help limit hackers’ ability to move funds quickly, Tianzheng added. Joshua Lim, FalconX’s co-head of markets, said more clients are unwilling to simply accept the risk that trades cannot be reversed as institutional participation increases.

Shares of Bitcoin mining companies that shifted toward AI data center infrastructure fell an average of 35% in October and now appear oversold, CoinDesk reported, citing an analysis by asset manager VanEck. VanEck said concerns over debt burdens at GPU leasing companies such as CoreWeave had spread to power infrastructure providers including Hut 8 and Core Scientific, but argued the sell-off did not properly reflect those companies’ fundamentals. The firm added power supply remains the main constraint on AI infrastructure expansion and said existing lease contracts have not been canceled. Given the cash flow tied to long-term contracts, current share prices are significantly undervalued relative to corporate value, VanEck said.

U.S. financial authorities have begun an urgent review of the banking sector after Binance’s $6.3 billion hack, the largest on record, to prevent crypto-related security risks from spilling into traditional finance. According to Reuters, the Fed and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency have been contacting major commercial banks since earlier this week to assess any signs of system abnormalities or service disruptions. The move is aimed at preemptively blocking the fallout from a major security breach at a crypto exchange from spreading to banking networks. Large U.S. banks are now conducting detailed internal diagnostics to identify vulnerabilities that could expose them to similar attack methods. At one major bank, the cyber security team has been in direct contact with Binance and is preparing an internal report analyzing the attack vector, with plans to overhaul its security infrastructure based on the findings. Binance also said it has been communicating with regulators in multiple countries in real time.
