LUNC transaction fee revenue

On Thursday, Dunamu signed a memorandum of understanding with CCRS and SSB to propel the Dunamu Next Dream project. This initiative aims to return Luna Classic (LUNC) transaction fee revenue to the community.

In September last year, Dunamu expressed its plan to allocate the LUNC transaction fee profits of 239.13025970 BTC for investor protection. The exchange operator, following the recommendations of an external advisory committee, decided to donate approximately 3 billion KRW (~$2.3 million) of these assets to public organizations and use the remaining funds for financial and credit support.

Young debtors

The project targets young individuals facing financial difficulties and debt repayment challenges in the wake of the extended COVID-19 pandemic and escalating interest rates. This reflects the pressing need for effective relief systems and preemptive measures in response to the recent increase in youth debt.

A joint survey conducted jointly by Statistics Korea, the Bank of Korea, and the Financial Supervisory Service last year revealed that household debt for those aged 29 or under increased by 41.2% as of the end of March 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.

This effort aims to address the economic instability among youths, which could potentially lead to a financial crisis. Through this agreement, the involved parties will offer various measures, such as emergency loans, financial consultations, and follow-up support, to alleviate the financial strain on young debtors and assist them to cultivate improved financial habits.

Starting this year, the Dunamu Next Dream project will span three years and will gradually broaden its scope and beneficiaries.

BlackRock Investment Marks its Return to India

BlackRock Investment Marks its Return to IndiaBlackRock, the world’s largest money manager with $9.4 trillion in assets under management, has made a significant move by joining forces with the financial services arm of Indian tycoon Mukesh Ambani. This strategic partnership aims to tap into India’s rapidly growing asset management market and marks BlackRock’s return to the country following a six-year absence. The collaboration between BlackRock and Jio Financial Services, a company built by Reliance Industries Limited, will establish a 50–50 joint venture called Jio BlackRock. BlackRock announced the collaboration via a statement published to its website on Wednesday.Photo by Naveed Ahmed on Unsplash$300 million investmentBoth companies plan to invest up to $150 million each in this venture. Larry Fink, BlackRock’s Chairman and CEO, articulated his satisfaction regarding the partnership in a LinkedIn post, emphasizing the significance of expanding BlackRock’s presence in India.Mukesh Ambani, the Founder and Chairman of Reliance Industries, is India’s richest man with a net worth believed to be in the region of $90.6 billion. The conglomerate is the country’s largest listed company by market share. Collaborating with BlackRock will likely strengthen its position in the financial services sector. The joint venture aims to leverage BlackRock’s expertise in investment and risk management, combined with Jio Financial Services’ technological capabilities and deep market knowledge. The objective will be to provide “tech-enabled access to affordable, innovative investment solutions” for Indian investors. With rising affluence, favorable demographics, and the ongoing digital transformation across industries in India, the market is undergoing a significant shift.Potential implications for cryptoThis move comes shortly after Jio Financial Services was spun off from its parent company, Reliance Industries. The digital-first service is focused on delivering innovative investment solutions to cater to the growing needs of Indian investors. While there’s absolutely no mention of crypto relative to this announcement, it may still have implications for crypto in India. BlackRock has progressed from taking a dim view of Bitcoin and crypto to now turning towards this new asset class. It recently filed an application to launch a bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States. That move is considered highly significant by most market commentators.Given that Jio Financial takes a digital-first approach and that the idea of the partnership is to bring the latest financial products to retail customers in India, there’s potential for this new entity to bring digital asset-related products to that market.Indian market re-entryBlackRock’s re-entry into India’s asset management industry is not the first attempt by the US investment management firm. In 2018, BlackRock exited the Indian market by selling its 40% stake in an asset management venture to partner DSP Group, but the company recognizes the enormous potential that India presents.Over the past five years, assets under management of Indian mutual funds have doubled, reaching 44.39 trillion rupees ($542 billion) by June this year. The exponential growth in this sector highlights the immense opportunities India offers to global asset managers like BlackRock. While the launch of the joint venture is subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals, the collaboration between BlackRock and Jio Financial Services appears to be poised to unlock the power of investing for millions of people in India.

Shanghai officials potentially signaling openness to stablecoins

The Shanghai office of a Chinese regulatory body which oversees assets belonging to state-owned enterprises (SOEs) is reported to have held a session dedicated to the topic of digital assets and in particular, stablecoins, fueling speculation of a positive shift in outlook on crypto in China.Photo by Hanny Naibaho on UnsplashOn July 11, Reuters reported that the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) held the meeting in Shanghai on July 10, with the publication suggesting that the event represented “a marked shift in tone” in the consideration of digital assets in China, bearing in mind that crypto trading and mining are banned within the country. Following the “development trend and response strategies” study session, He Qing, director of the organization, said that there was a need for "greater sensitivity to emerging technologies and enhanced research into digital currencies." The regulator called on Chinese state-backed agencies to consider the adoption of blockchain technology for use cases like real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, supply chain finance and cross-border trade. A policy expert from Shanghai-headquartered securities firm, Guotai Haitong Securities, attended the meeting, outlining details on the history, characteristics and categories of cryptocurrencies and stablecoins, while also discussing global regulatory frameworks. Last month, a subsidiary company of Guotai Haitong Securities, Guotai Junan International (GTJAI), became the first company from the Chinese mainland to be given approval by the Hong Kong securities regulator to offer digital asset trading services. Adapting to the stablecoin trendIn June, state-owned financial newspaper, Securities Times, called on Beijing to adapt “to the trend of stablecoins.” The publication claimed that industry insiders “generally believe that, as an emerging payment tool, the unique advantages and potential risks of stablecoins cannot be ignored, and that the development of [yuan-backed] stablecoins should be sooner rather than later”. The same month, Pan Gongsheng, governor of the People’s Bank of China, acknowledged that stablecoins are playing a role in disrupting global payments infrastructure.  It also emerged recently that JD.com, a Chinese e-commerce giant, and Ant Group, an affiliate company of the Alibaba Group, have been lobbying the Chinese authorities for the authorization of yuan-based stablecoins. On X, Shanghai Macro Strategist, a China strategist, claimed that the recent surge in the Bitcoin unit price had come about as a consequence of this stablecoin-focused SASAC meeting in Shanghai. At the time of writing, BTC has appreciated 9.3% over the course of the past seven days. The strategist suggests that the event is fueling speculation that “the Chinese government may be in the early stages of reassessing its official stance on the crypto industry.” In their monthly report for May, the strategist pointed out that “Beijing’s outright rejection of [Bitcoin] as a legitimate asset” was holding the leading asset back on its path to “reserve status.” The strategist added: “Over the longer term, a shift in China’s stance could prove to be the single most powerful bullish catalyst—elevating Bitcoin from a fringe asset to a globally recognized store of value.”

Hong Kong Authorities Block Access to JPEX Amid Ongoing Investigation

Hong Kong Authorities Block Access to JPEX Amid Ongoing InvestigationDubai-headquartered crypto exchange JPEX has been under intense scrutiny in Hong Kong over the course of the past week due to issues experienced by Hong Kong users in withdrawing funds from the platform. In the most recent twist to the saga, authorities in the Chinese autonomous territory have now blocked access to the JPEX website and mobile application.Photo by Tao Yuan on UnsplashCutting off service accessThe firm published a statement on Wednesday, outlining this latest sanction, while protesting that the move had been unreasonable. It appears that the authorities requested local telecommunications providers to block access to the company’s online platform. The measure follows ongoing enforcement actions initiated by local law enforcement agencies, which have led to the detention of at least 11 individuals and the seizure of assets related to the case. The scandal has also had implications for the crypto sector as a whole, as local regulators are now looking once more at regulation and determining if there’s a need to tighten regulatory measures as a consequence of JPEX’s failings in Hong Kong.VPN recommendationIn its statement, JPEX stated:“Since September 13, 2023, the SFC [Securities and Futures Commission] has suddenly made a series of accusations against our platform’s operating model and promotional methods, which we vehemently resent as they were made without investigation or review.”In response to the blocking of their platform, JPEX has encouraged users to utilize virtual private network (VPN) services to access their services. The exchange sought to reassure its user base, stating: “Here, we strongly reiterate that, even in the face of such oppression and unfair treatment, our platform will continue to operate as usual. Users can log into our mobile application or operate on our web version using VPN applications like Surfshark.”The investigation into JPEX was initiated following warnings from the SFC regarding false or misleading statements made on social media by crypto influencers and the trading platform relative to a trading license application. On Sunday, JPEX announced that it had suspended certain operations and increased withdrawal fees due to an ongoing liquidity crisis, triggering an influx of complaints from users. As of Monday night, the police had received a total of 1,641 complaints, with claims amounting to approximately HK$1.19 billion ($152 million) in assets involved, as revealed during a police briefing on Tuesday.DAO Stakeholders Dividend PlanIn response to these developments, JPEX unveiled plans for a “DAO Stakeholders Dividend Plan.” Under this initiative, JPEX users will have the opportunity to convert their assets on the platform into DAO stakeholder dividends at a 1:1 ratio. The exchange intends to distribute 49% of the DAO Stakeholder dividends, with an estimated total value of approximately 400,000,000 USDT available for subscription and conversion. Additionally, JPEX plans to offer repurchase options one year and two years after the program’s launch.New users who subscribe to the DAO stakeholder dividends will enjoy double payouts, and they will not be required to bear all the operational responsibilities of the platform. This move is seen as an attempt by JPEX to address the concerns of its user base and navigate the challenges it currently faces. The situation surrounding JPEX remains fluid, with ongoing investigations and regulatory actions continuing to unfold.
