Fostering growth and collaboration

The Blockchain Offshore Firm Development Center is part of a project conducted by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and the Ministry of Science and ICT and operated by Busan to create a special corporate cluster of blockchain firms, thus revitalizing the blockchain industry and nurturing a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

"We are excited to be a new tenant at the Blockchain Offshore Firm Development Center,” said Kim Dong-hoon, CEO of Fingerlabs. “We will share our business know-how with other tenants and commit to joint growth. We will also actively participate in various programs provided by the center to contribute to Busan's leap into becoming a digital economy city."

Various companies operating blockchain-related businesses outside of Busan were selected to be a part of the development center after a comprehensive overall evaluation of factors like technological facets, marketability and contributions to innovation. Corporate residents have access to various infrastructure and benefits, including facilities and programs at the Busan Blockchain Venture Convention, also dubbed “b-space”.

Fingerlabs plans to participate in various programs led by the public sector such as councils, seminars and conferences to help Busan – notably the first regulation-free special zone for blockchain businesses in South Korea – foster its digital economy based on its expertise in the field of Web3.

Innovating Web3 solutions

Fingerlabs has grown to become one of the country’s major blockchain companies through its varied services and products, which are provided to corporate clients like SK Planet, Lotte Home Shopping and SK Networks. In particular, it recently launched Bling, a participatory Web3 membership platform that allows businesses to create and manage NFTs that are linked to membership-only benefits.

The company also operates a Web3 content distribution hub called Xclusive and Favorlet, an NFT wallet and customer management service.

Bitmain Planning Mining Equipment Support For Aleo Blockchain

Bitmain Planning Mining Equipment Support For Aleo BlockchainBitmain, the leading Beijing-headquartered crypto mining rig manufacturer, is set to bolster the proof-of-work (PoW) blockchain network of Aleo with its upcoming Antminer release. The firm announced its intentions via a social media post which was published on WeChat on Monday. The move follows Bitmain’s recent introductions of Filecoin and Kaspa mining machines and its latest series of Bitcoin miners.Photo by RDNE Stock project on PexelsEnhanced privacy through zk proofsBitmain plans to unveil a miner compatible with the forthcoming Aleo blockchain network which is currently in testnet mode. Aleo’s PoW blockchain promises to bring enhanced privacy through zero-knowledge (zk) proofs while retaining programmability. Zk proofs represent a cryptographic advancement insofar as they can verify data while it remains encrypted and undisclosed to the verifying party. The blockchain network adopts a statically typed programming language inspired by Rust, known as Leo.Aleo has been gaining significant attention in the crypto space, much like other venture capital-backed layer 1 blockchains, including Solana, Aptos, and NEAR, before their respective debuts. In April 2021, Aleo’s team successfully secured $28 million in a Series A funding round, with Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) leading the way.Aleo’s journey reached new heights in February 2022 when its Series B funding round raised a substantial $200 million, pushing the project into unicorn status. This funding round was jointly led by Softbank Vision Fund 2 and Kora Management LP, with participation from a16z, Tiger Global, Sea Capital, Slow Ventures, and Samsung Next.Latest in series of product launchesBitmain’s announcement is part of a series of product launches in recent months. In July, the company unveiled a mining rig designed for Filecoin (FIL). The following month marked the shipment of Bitmain’s Kaspa (KAS) mining machines. Shortly after the Kaspa deliveries, Bitmain revealed plans for an August release of a Monero (XMR) mining rig. Most recently, Bitmain introduced two next-generation Bitcoin (BTC) miners from the S21 series. The Chinese crypto mining equipment manufacturer has faced financial challenges in recent times. In April, it emerged that the company had been fined by the Chinese authorities for tax irregularities.Earlier this month, reports suggested that the company was experiencing liquidity issues. It failed to pay some of its employees although it later resolved the matter. Reports of staff payment difficulties surfaced two weeks ago. Arising out of that episode, the company subsequently fired three employees for posting information about salary payment issues on social media.Nevertheless, the firm managed to secure two contracts with US-based mining operations following those reports. In these contracts, Bitmain sold a combined 5.8 exahash per second (EH/s) of its new S21 Antminers to Iris Energy and Cleanspark. In September, Bitmain finalized a deal with troubled crypto miner Core Scientific that will see the firm supply the restructured company with 27,000 Bitcoin miners. The company has been blighted by internal conflicts going back a number of years between co-founders Jihan Wu and Zhan Ketuan. Subsequently Wu went on to found Singapore-headquartered crypto cloud mining platform Bitdeer.

BitMEX Chalks Up Two New Perp Contract Listings

BitMEX Chalks Up Two New Perp Contract ListingsSeychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange and derivative trading platform BitMEX announced recently that it has added perpetual contracts relative to two additional digital assets.A perpetual contract is a crypto futures contract without an expiry date. Just like with a more conventional futures contract, a perpetual contract is a derivative product, deriving its value from the underlying crypto asset.$SUI tokenTaking to Twitter, the company outlined that it has added perpetual contracts for the $SUI token. The contracts will be available in $SUI/USD and SUI/USDT pairings. Leverage relative to the contracts is being made available up to a maximum of 50x.$SUI is the native token of the Sui blockchain platform. Sui is a layer one blockchain which launched earlier this week. It’s a smart contract platform maintained via a network of permissionless validators. The blockchain network claims to offer a scalable network with ultra low latency. Such low latency can enable diverse use cases such as retail point of sale payment systems and gaming. The contract allows users to post bitcoin as collateral, earning or losing in bitcoin as the SUI/USD rate changes. Maximum risk limit is set at 50 bitcoin. Meanwhile maker and taker fees have been set for the product at 0.02% and 0.075% respectively. A base initial margin of 2% applies while base maintenance margin of 1% applies.$PEPE tokenOn Wednesday, BitMEX also launched perpetual contract products relative to the $PEPE token at 04:00 UTC. There are two listings, PEPE/USD and PEPE/USDT. Pepe coin is a meme token project, inspired by the Pepe the Frog meme. The origins of the cartoon character stem from the Boy’s Club comic in 2005. It later became an internet meme, and later still it was adopted as a meme within the crypto space. The token itself was launched in April, sky rocketing to a $502 million market capitalization since then, representing a 2,100% rise in the token’s unit price since its launch. As in the case of the $SUI token, $PEPE is also available to trade on BitMEX with leverage as high as 50x. In an interview with one crypto news publication, a representative of BitMEX commented on the launch as follows:“PEPE needs a Perp! Perpetual Contracts are the most traded product in crypto and offer all investors taking a long or short position on tokens with better liquidity and fewer network risks. At BitMEX, we offer Tether-margined and Bitcoin-margined perpetual contracts. We are proud to be the inventor of the Perpetual Swap and have long been a leading trading venue for crypto derivatives, offering uncompromised security, a reliable platform, and deep liquidity — as professional traders deserve.”Many commentators in the crypto space have repeatedly pointed to the high risks involved with leverage. In this instance 50x leverage is incredibly high risk, making the product suitable only for those traders that fully and thoroughly understand the risk that comes with such leveraged trading.Photo by Shubham Dhage on Unsplash
