NFT holder benefits

In an interview with Korean crypto news outlet Digital Asset, Yoo Hyun, the entrepreneurial business owner, explained that he was seeking a strong marketing tool to capture the attention of the NFT market. Yoo was interested in seeing if his cafe could remain profitable while also offering substantial benefits to its customers.

Since April 2022, Yoo has released a total of 50 Ethereum-based NFTs related to his cafe, Hide Me, Please (HMP), in two separate batches of 25 each. The first set of NFTs grants holders a free cup of coffee or drink daily for life, while the second set offers an extra drink or dessert with each drink purchased.

Increased revenue

This unique NFT initiative has led to increased revenue for the cafe. Kim Dae-sung, the CFO of HMP, explained that the cafe’s monthly revenue increased by 15% compared to the same period last year.

HMP is currently selling 500 NFTs as a third set and plans to release more depending on demand. Yoo highlighted the importance of an appealing interior design and tempting desserts, as NFT holders visiting for a free coffee may be enticed to purchase a dessert as well.

Regular customers

Yoo asserts that the food and beverage industry hinges on retaining regular customers and believes NFTs can help achieve that objective. HMP aspires to become a community-based platform, and according to Kim, many digital artists are interested in the space that the cafe provides because it enables them to connect with clients. Collaborations often take place, and while the cafe charges for food and drinks, it does not charge for space rental. This approach fosters a positive impression and contributes to a strong brand image.

High-quality cafe

At present, about 5% of HMP’s customers hold NFT memberships. Yoo and Kim plan to increase this number to 10% but no higher, as excessive reliance on NFT members could jeopardize the business. They underlined the significance of remaining a high-quality cafe, staying true to the core foundation of their enterprise. As they anticipate the growth of the Web 3.0 ecosystem, Yoo and Kim believe that with continued efforts, HMP will gain even greater value.

Axie Infinity Teams Up with CyberKongz in Blockchain Gaming Revival

Axie Infinity Teams Up with CyberKongz in Blockchain Gaming RevivalIn a bid to reinvigorate the world of blockchain gaming, Sky Mavis, the company behind the groundbreaking play-to-earn (P2E) blockchain game Axie Infinity, has announced an exciting partnership with CyberKongz, an Ethereum-based non-fungible token (NFT) collection.Together, they are set to develop a more comprehensive gaming ecosystem for the Ronin blockchain. Sky Mavis originated in Vietnam and came to prominence for developing the first major breakthrough for blockchain gaming within the crypto space. The company’s ties with Vietnam continue although it has since established its headquarters in Singapore. While the announcement, made via a blog post published on Tuesday, has sparked curiosity about a brand-new game on the horizon, specific details remain under wraps. Kathleen Osgood, Sky Mavis’ Head of Business Development, revealed that the upcoming game will be designed to be interoperable, seamlessly integrating with existing Axie Infinity experiences.Photo by Bestami Sarıkaya on UnsplashMoving to the Ronin blockchainBut the partnership goes beyond just creating a new game. It also includes the migration of CyberKongz’s popular Play & Kollect game, which is based on the Polygon blockchain. The move to the Ronin blockchain opens up new opportunities for CyberKongz to expand its user base and tap into Ronin’s thriving gaming community.Axie Infinity first captured the gaming world’s imagination in 2021 when it introduced the “play-to-earn” concept. This groundbreaking model allowed players to earn valuable cryptocurrency tokens while playing the game. It quickly became the leading project by sales volume in the burgeoning NFT space, according to data from CryptoSlam. On the other hand, CyberKongz also made headlines in 2021 when it impressively burned $4 million worth of Ether. However, since the NFT craze of 2021, interest in blockchain gaming has seen a decline, with some crypto-based games, such as Neopets, even transitioning to a non-crypto approach.Play-to-earn deficienciesSky Mavis Co-Founder, Aleksander Larsen, acknowledged earlier this year that the play-to-earn model needed improvement to thrive. He emphasized that games must prioritize fun and feature a robust economic system that enables players to earn rewards. Despite this, Kathleen Osgood remains optimistic that the blockchain gaming space can experience a revival through an experience that truly understands the motivations driving users towards Web3.According to Osgood, many teams in the space have merely attempted to replicate what worked in Web2, which may not be enough to drive explosive growth. Instead, she believes that attracting a massive audience lies in taking an innovative approach to leverage the unique offerings of Web3, appealing to users who are naturally drawn to its decentralized and rewarding nature.Gaming evolutionSky Mavis has started opening up its infrastructure to the Web3 ecosystem through the Ronin blockchain. By doing so, it hopes to create gaming communities that are not only more rewarding but also longer-lasting, fostering an environment of engagement and enthusiasm among players. As blockchain gaming continues to evolve, partnerships like the one between Sky Mavis and CyberKongz signal renewed efforts to iteratively improve on previous blockchain gaming models. With a new game on the horizon and the migration of CyberKongz to the Ronin blockchain, the stage is set for a new era of immersive and rewarding blockchain gaming experiences, building upon past efforts.

Mt. Gox Extends Repayment Deadline to 2024

Mt. Gox Extends Repayment Deadline to 2024In a development that has captured the attention of the cryptocurrency community, failed Japanese crypto exchange Mt. Gox has officially announced a one-year extension of its repayment deadline. The decision, authorized by the Tokyo District Court, represents a one-year delay from the previously stipulated date of October 31, 2023.Photo by Andre Benz on UnsplashInfamous collapseAt its height, Mt. Gox was the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, facilitating over 70% of all cryptocurrency trades. However, its fall from grace began in 2014 when it fell victim to a colossal hack, resulting in the loss of 850,000 Bitcoins. The collapse left approximately 24,000 creditors in its wake, each of them agonizing over a multi-year period for the return of their digital assets. In a letter dated September 21, Rehabilitation Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi announced the extension of the repayment deadline. This extension applies to the base repayment, early lump-sum repayment, and intermediate repayment, all of which have been rescheduled to October 31, 2024.The rationale behind this delay is twofold. Firstly, to provide creditors with additional time to furnish essential information required for the repayment process. Secondly, it will allow the trustee to coordinate with associated banks, fund transfer service providers, and cryptocurrency exchanges to facilitate the repayments.Potential payout for diligent creditorsA glimmer of hope exists for creditors who have diligently provided the necessary information. Repayments may commence sequentially as early as the close of this year. That said, it should be noted that the specific timing of repayments for each creditor remains uncertain.Kobayashi emphasized that the schedule is subject to change depending on circumstances, and further adjustments are possible. The Mt. Gox Debtor has encouraged creditors who have as yet not provided required information to facilitate payments to do so.Naturally enough, long suffering creditors are frustrated by this latest update. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user named “Mt.Gox’ed” wrote: “People will not get their Mt.Gox money back.” . . . “I’ve been tweeting for a long time that infinite delays are coming.”The move evoked a similar response from distressed debt specialist Thomas Braziel, who wrote: “Another delay from the MtGox trustee’s office — COME ON!”Mt. Gox’s journey towards rehabilitation has been arduous and protracted since its declaration of insolvency in 2014. Legal battles, extensive delays, and the need for meticulous coordination have all contributed to this postponement. Nonetheless, creditors are holding onto the hope that, with this extension, the path to recovering their lost assets will become smoother.Crypto market impactThis latest news has drawn considerable attention within the broader crypto sector as it may have implications for the market as a whole. The repayment delay holds the potential to impact Bitcoin prices, given the sheer volume of tokens that will be released when repayments begin. The Mt. Gox estate holds 142,000 BTC, 143,000 BCH, and 69 billion JPY.As per UBS analysts, while this influx of funds could influence the market, it is unlikely to destabilize Bitcoin. Notably, the recovery of approximately 20% of the stolen tokens after the hack reflects a positive step in the ongoing rehabilitation process.
