Lotte Group’s Bellygom NFT Project Garners Global Fanbase of Over 300K

Daehong Communications and Lotte Homeshopping shared yesterday that their NFT project has now garnered a global fanbase exceeding 300,000 members. The two companies are subsidiaries of South Korean industrial conglomerate Lotte Group.

Partnership initiatives as global expansion

Their NFT initiative, operated by the group’s marketing arm Daehong, is based on Bellygom, the pink bear character representing Lotte Homeshopping. As part of its global strategy, the Bellygom NFT project has formed partnerships with various international projects and has been actively involved in communication efforts. Notably, Bellygom’s X (formerly Twitter) account, created earlier this year, has attracted 100,000 followers within a span of five months.

At the end of last month, Daehong successfully completed the minting of Bellyland, the second NFT collection of the Bellygom project. The minting event was accompanied by Jelly Adventure, a universe where users can participate in a wide range of missions and games to earn “Bubble Gums.” Notably, Jelly Adventure is not only accessible to Bellyland NFT holders but also to those of other projects such as YogaPetz and Mocaverse.

It’s worth highlighting that the minting event achieved the sale of over 5,000 NFTs, even during a period of reduced activity in the NFT market. Despite the declining minting prices and quantities, it managed to raise over 750,000 MATIC.

 

Joining of new international users

Additionally, the minting event attracted new international users to the Bellygom project, underlining its sustainability. The successful debut of Bellyland NFTs has significantly contributed to the project’s global expansion and presence.

Furthermore, Daehong is pursuing a range of initiatives aimed at cultivating a fan-centric ecosystem with the ultimate objective of driving broader adoption of Web3 technologies. With the belief that the fanbase provides a strong foothold for the brand’s growth, the marketing firm plays a crucial role in facilitating the introduction of the Bellygom brand to the Web3 space. To this end, Daehong is constructing a universe with a story that embodies the brand’s identity while seamlessly integrating it with conventional marketing strategies.

ACE Exchange founder arrested in major fraud crackdown in Taiwan

Taiwan's cryptocurrency scene has been rattled by the arrest of David Pan, the founder of ACE Exchange, a prominent cryptocurrency platform.Photo by Timo Volz on PexelsAccording to local media outlet Liberty Times, this development is part of a broader operation targeting fraudulent activities involving 13 additional suspects. Law enforcement authorities, as of now, have confiscated assets totaling around NT$200 million ($6.4 million), dealing a significant blow to the alleged fraudulent operations. A sophisticated fraud schemeThe arrest of Pan, alongside company executive Lin Nan, stems from accusations of a sophisticated fraud scheme orchestrated by the duo, along with their team. The modus operandi involved deceptive tactics, including the use of fake advertisements on popular social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Over the past three years, more than 100 investors have reportedly fallen victim to the scheme, losing over one billion yuan ($140 million). Lin Nan, leveraging social media, enticed potential investors with promises of quick wealth through the listing of virtual currencies on well-known exchanges. Simultaneously, David Pan lent credibility to ACE Exchange, fostering trust in the virtual currencies listed on the platform. However, investors soon discovered that the virtual currencies touted as having realizable value were, in reality, "junk coins" with plummeting values or no circulation options. Ace Exchange office raidLegal charges filed against the suspects include fraud under the Criminal Code, the Money Laundering Prevention Act and the Banking Act. Law enforcement agencies in Taiwan conducted multiple raids, including at ACE Exchange offices. Lin Nan's residence yielded NT$111.52 million ($3.6 million) in cash, with additional cryptocurrency seizures bringing the total to over NT$200 million ($6.4 million). In response to the scandal, ACE Exchange has distanced itself, asserting that the arrested individuals are not current employees. The company clarified that Pan had ceased active involvement in daily operations as of 2022. ACE Exchange is actively cooperating with the investigation and has positioned itself as a witness in the case. MOCT delistingDespite the ongoing investigation, ACE Exchange, founded in 2018 and a dominant player in Taiwan's crypto market, continues to operate, upholding regulatory obligations and prioritizing user interests. However, the incident has prompted the platform to announce the delisting of the MOCT-TWD trading pair, effective Jan. 8, in alignment with its commitment to regularly evaluate and delist tokens not meeting stringent criteria. This development occurs amid heightened scrutiny of cryptocurrency exchanges globally. CoinDCX, a major crypto investment firm, recently faced allegations of bank and crypto fraud on its mobile application. Similarly, Lee Jeong-hoon, former chairman of Bithumb, South Korea's major crypto exchange, received an eight-year prison sentence over alleged fraud, awaiting an impending appeal verdict. Taiwan, like Hong Kong, had also been dealing with the fallout from the fraudulent activity of Dubai-headquartered crypto exchange JPEX. David Pan is also the founder of the Dubai-based ZORIXchange cryptocurrency platform. Prior to crypto ventures, Pan worked for KPMG in Taiwan as its COO for startups and innovation. These cases underscore the critical need for comprehensive regulation of the crypto ecosystem. As digital assets gain popularity, the risks of fraudulent activities rise, necessitating collaboration between governments and regulatory bodies to establish and enforce stringent regulations that protect investors and uphold the integrity of virtual crypto exchanges.

LG Goes Further Down the Web3 Rabbit Hole with NFT PatentSouth Korean consumer electronics behemoth LG has delved deeper into the Web3 world, this time with a patent filing that would make NFTs more available to TV viewers.Enabling NFTs for the mass marketAccording to the filing, which was made with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the electronics giant is seeking to acquire intellectual property protection on a capability to have a smart TV connect with an NFT market server.That ability would allow the user to then send, receive and display digital artwork. Furthermore, the consumer could complete purchases using an associated digital wallet, relative to NFT-based artwork that they would have the ability to browse through on their LG smart TV.While crypto and Web3 continue to garner a lot of attention, it can still seem sometimes that it exists in a bubble all of its own. Moves like this one from an organization as professional as LG are encouraging, as they demonstrate that LG believes that NFTs are going to be a part of the future, and most importantly, that they’re going to enable mass market participation and adoption.Blade WalletThis is not LG’s first venture into the world of NFTs. Last year, the corporation launched its very own NFT marketplace. Known as “LG Art Labs”, it enables users of US LG TVs that run the WebOS 5.0 operating system, to trade digital collectibles.Earlier this year, the firm launched the Blade Wallet, a third party audited, self-custody digital wallet which runs on the Hedera public ledger. That development has come out of a partnership that LG has developed with the Hedera Hashgraph platform much earlier in 2020. Just as with the Blade Wallet, the LG Art Labs NFT marketplace also runs on Hedera. To support these early stage products, LG itself has been a node operator on the Hedera network since 2020.This recent patent filing references an NFT marketplace and a digital wallet. As we’ve established, the corporation has already launched both of them already. All of that points to the electronics giant executing on a well thought through plan which will bring NFTs to the mass market.Broader interestLG isn’t going to have it all to itself. Samsung, yet another South Korean consumer electronics giant, has also dipped its toe in the water where NFTs are concerned. In January 2022, the company released an NFT marketplace on three of its TV models. That initiative was enabled due to its partnership with leading curated NFT marketplace, Nifty Gateway.Neither will the South Koreans have the consumer electronics-enabled NFT market all to themselves. Japanese consumer electronics conglomerate Sony filed a patent in March that will allow players of Sony products to access interactive Web3 gameplay. That application will be centered upon the use of NFTs also.Sony’s attempts to delve into the Web3 arena have been more recent. The company has been a pioneer in Japan, leading the way in offering an international remittance service that leverages XRP as a bridge currency between two sovereign currencies.This latest move underscores SBI Remit’s interest in furthering its exploration and use of XRP-based remittances. In 2021, it introduced a service targeting digital wallets in the Philippines, marking a milestone in using XRP for international remittances in Japan.Simplifying international remittancesThe newly introduced scheme aims to simplify the international remittance process significantly. The process involves SBI Remit initiating a customer’s remittance request, followed by SBI VC Trade facilitating real-time XRP transfers in response to the request. This dynamic approach has been made feasible through a strategic partnership with Tranglo Pte. Ltd., a long-standing Ripple partner. It ensures that customers receive their remittances in their respective local sovereign currencies.SBI emphasized the advantages of using XRP as a bridge currency, highlighting its ability to enable fast and cost-effective money transfers. XRP also boasts excellent scalability, allowing users to seamlessly send funds to Ripple’s global partners. SBI believes that this will enhance its competitiveness in the international remittance sector.Targeting important remittance marketsThe decision to target the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia was not arbitrary. These countries have a substantial share of remittances channeled into bank accounts, making them ideal candidates for XRP adoption. SBI Remit anticipates that the introduction of the XRP-based remittance service will further accelerate cryptocurrency adoption in these nations.Yoshitaka Kitao, chairman and CEO of SBI Holdings, expressed the company’s commitment to transforming international remittance services. The press release also conveyed SBI Remit’s dedication to extending its reach beyond the initial three Asian countries. At the time of publication, XRP was trading at $0.5022.The significance of the announcement was not lost on retail investors with an ongoing interest in XRP. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) one wrote:“Everyone who says Ripple does not utilize XRP, and that nobody uses XRP is WRONG.”At Paris Blockchain Week earlier this year, Monica Long, President of Ripple, stated: “The past couple of years have been a real tipping point for institutional DeFi, where even the biggest of banks are embracing this technology as the future, and they have to adapt or die.” That statement is relevant when this latest expansion of the Ripple/SBI partnership is considered.SBI Remit’s expanded partnership with Ripple marks a significant step in the evolution of international remittance services.
