POS terminal crypto payments

The trio is set to unveil a cutting-edge digital currency payment system, leveraging smart point of sale (POS) terminals supporting a range of currencies, including USDT, ETH and BTC. The primary goal of this partnership is to broaden the reach of digital payments, providing global users with faster, more cost-efficient and secure payment experiences.

The overarching objective of the collaboration is to empower partners and merchants to seamlessly accept payments in both fiat and digital currencies. By doing so, dtcpay, PlatON and Allinpay International aim to enhance operational efficiency, broaden business outreach and capture the attention of a younger customer base.

Officials emphasize that this venture aligns with dtcpay’s commitment to delivering secure and efficient digital payment solutions while diversifying its service offering. A spokesperson for Tonghua International, Allinpay International’s parent company, stated:

“We are very pleased to cooperate with industry leaders, PlatON and dtcpay. This cooperation will not only promote the development of digital currency payments but also help merchants better adapt to the modern payment trend and meet the needs of young consumers.”

A collaboration that relies on core competencies

The collaborative effort capitalizes on the strengths of each entity. dtcpay facilitates swift and secure digital and fiat currency exchange. PlatON contributes advanced privacy computing technology for robust technical infrastructure, while Allinpay International provides smart terminals and online aggregate payment interfaces, eliminating entry barriers relative to Web3 payments.

In addition to driving advancements in digital currency payments, Allinpay International seeks to support merchants in adapting to modern payment trends and meeting the preferences of younger customers. dtcpay’s comprehensive suite of services includes multi-currency swaps, online checkouts and in-store POS solutions, positioning the company as a one-stop solution for merchants embracing the future of payments.

Founded in 2019 in Singapore, dtcpay operates as a regulated payment service provider licensed by the Major Payment Institution (MPI) under the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

The company struck up a similar partnership in September, bringing crypto payments to the POS system of Jeripay, which has a network of 8,000 terminals in Singapore. In an interview earlier this year, the firm’s CEO Kanny Lee outlined that dtcpay had targeted Hong Kong and Dubai as markets in which the company plans to expand.

Sumsub partnership

The collaboration’s momentum was further solidified at the end of September 2023 when dtcpay partnered with Sumsub, a global full-cycle verification platform. This partnership aimed to enhance the security and reliability of digital currency payments in target markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, the UK and Europe. Sumsub integrated its electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) service into dtcpay’s wallet platform, streamlining the onboarding process for customers engaging in transactions through the platform.

PlatON is an open financial infrastructure that features verifiable and privacy-preserving computation. It will endeavor to bring financial-level system stability and compliant digital asset management to the collaboration. Allinpay is a global financial payment company focused on providing diverse payment solutions while enhancing digital financial technology services globally.

Binance partners with Bhutan on tourism payment system

The government of Bhutan, the Buddhist kingdom nestled in the Himalayas, has partnered with cryptocurrency payment service Binance Pay to launch the world’s first national-level crypto tourism payment system. In a recent blog post, Binance outlined details of the collaboration. Alongside the government and Binance, Bhutanese digital bank DK Bank will also play a role. The payment system enables international visitors to Bhutan who also happen to be Binance account holders to pay for a range of services within the kingdom.Photo by Mariia Shalabaieva on UnsplashFacilitating spending of over 100 cryptosUsing the Binance app, tourists visiting Bhutan can use dynamic or static QR codes in order to complete secure transactions via participating merchants in real time. The system supports users in spending over 100 cryptocurrencies to pay for goods or services, including hotel stays, tour guides and entrance fees to touristic sites. Payment using these digital assets will be settled instantly in Bhutan’s sovereign currency, the Ngultrum (BTN), with that settlement facilitated by DK Bank. Binance also asserted that the initiative facilitates inclusion and innovation by enabling small businesses in remote areas to accept crypto and in that way, to go digital. Bridging ‘cultures and economies’Binance CEO Richard Teng said that the initiative not only advances the use of crypto in the tourism sector, it also sets a precedent for “how technology can bridge cultures and economies.” Teng added:“This initiative exemplifies our commitment to innovation and our belief in a future where digital finance empowers global connectivity and enriches travel experiences.” Damcho Rinzin is also of the opinion that the initiative adds value beyond just being a tourism-related payment system. He stated:“This is more than a payment solution – it’s a commitment to innovation, inclusion, and convenience.” Binance described the new payment system as the first of its kind to offer end-to-end crypto-based payments at a national level, in a fully integrated manner. It added that previous systems established elsewhere had limitations and that by offering real-time confirmations, near-zero fees and a regulatory-compliant bank handling settlements, this system overcomes past limitations. Early adopterWhile Bhutan appears to have established a world-first with this system, it is no stranger to being innovative related to crypto. The kingdom has amassed a Bitcoin holding with a value in excess of $1 billion. It has collaborated with Bitcoin miner and Bitcoin mining equipment manufacturer Bitdeer on crypto-related ventures. In January it was announced that the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a special administrative region within Bhutan, is moving forward with plans to hold Bitcoin, Ethereum and BNB, a digital asset that was created by Binance back in 2017, within its strategic reserve. Bhutan’s early interest in crypto hadn’t gone unnoticed by Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ). Last November, CZ commented on the X social media platform, in response to the news that Bhutan had accumulated in excess of $1 billion in Bitcoin, that many countries will use Bitcoin as a strategic asset going forward. The following month he visited the kingdom, meeting with the King of Bhutan.  During a panel discussion at Token2049 in Dubai in April, CZ commented that Bhutan is already advanced in its efforts to implement a national Bitcoin strategic reserve.

Temasek Refutes Claims of Investment in Array

Despite reports emerging on Monday that it had invested in Array, an algorithmic currency system, Singaporean state-owned conglomerate and global investment firm Temasek has denied any such investment. In a very brief statement published to its website on Tuesday, Temasek stated:“We have seen news articles and a tweet from Array about Temasek’s investment in it. This news is incorrect. Temasek has not invested in Array and we have no relationship with them.”CoinTelegraph had taken to reporting the claim on Monday. The article had outlined a $10 million investment by the Singaporean state investor into Array, the developer of an algorithmic currency system that relies upon smart contracts and artificial intelligence. Reputational lossIf it had been true, such an investment would have been seen as a positive for the crypto space as it would be indicative of a renewed appetite for crypto-based projects from the giant Southeast Asian investor.Temasek was a key investor in failed cryptocurrency exchange, FTX. In November 2022, the company had to write down its entire investment of $275 million into the fraudulently managed exchange business. To an onlooker, a $275 million write-down may seem like an extraordinary loss. However, given that the Singaporean investing behemoth has a $403 billion dollar portfolio, the loss represents just 0.09% of that portfolio, hardly making a dent in the health of the company. The greater loss for Temasek relative to the FTX collapse has been reputational. Top tier venture capital investors like Temasek, who had otherwise been assumed to be the most diligent of actors in the professional investing world, were all sharply criticized for failing to identify the extent of the mismanagement and fraud that had occurred at the now bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange. Bogus ClaimsIn fairness to those who had reported the fake news, they were acting on information that Array had put out into the ether and as of yet, has not corrected. At the time of publication, the project’s website features a list of renowned investors including Temasek. Alongside Temasek, Array claims to have obtained investment from Standard Chartered, Coinbase Ventures, Spark Capital, Khosla Ventures, The Blackstone Group, Binance Labs, Sequoia Capital and a16z.In the case of Binance Labs, a spokesperson for the venture arm of the global exchange told The Block that it is not an investor in the project. To further dispel the claim, Temasek took to Twitter, stating:”Fake news about Temasek’s investment in @Array_Protocol. We have seen news articles and a tweet from Array about Temasek’s investment in it. This news is incorrect. Temasek has not invested in Array and we have no relationship with them.” Further instances of misinformationThe misinformation follows a similar scenario that played out with OPNX, a newly launched platform that offers spot and futures trading, alongside the ability for investors to trade bankruptcy claims.A couple of weeks ago, the platform, which had been founded by Kyle Davies and Su Zhu, the key executives behind failed crypto hedge fund, Three Arrows Capital, asserted that it had the backing of some notable investors. Almost immediately, venture capital and market maker DRW and venture capital firm Nascent denied that they were investors in OPNX.
