Providing liquidity

The partnership was announced via a press release published on Tuesday. As part of this collaboration, DWF Labs has become a liquidity provider for TRON, aiming to strengthen the ecosystem support of the blockchain.

Andrei Grachev, the Managing Partner of DWF Labs, expressed confidence in the TRON ecosystem, highlighting its impressive adoption in the Web3 space. Grachev stated: “TRON stands as one of the fastest-growing dApps ecosystems in the space at the moment, and the consistent rollout of innovative tools and services proves that TRON has a leading role in paving the trail in blockchain.” He further emphasized DWF Labs’ commitment to supporting the ecosystem through additional investments in the near future.

DWF Labs, known for its active support and investments in Web3 protocols, had previously allocated $15 million to the Web3 Industry Recovery Initiative, led by Binance Labs, to aid struggling protocols in the industry’s recovery. The company has also formed strategic partnerships with other prominent players in the crypto industry.

Global market maker

DWF Labs, as a global digital asset market maker and multi-stage Web3 investment firm, supports portfolio companies throughout various stages, from token listing to market making to OTC trading solutions. With offices in multiple locations worldwide, including Singapore, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hong Kong, South Korea, and the British Virgin Islands (BVI), DWF operates as an affiliate of Digital Wave Finance (DWF), known for its proprietary technology in high-frequency trading and consistently ranking among the top 5 trading entities by volume in the cryptocurrency world.

The firm has been on a spending spree in recent months. In April, it invested $10 million into Singapore-based payments provider Alchemy Pay. In the same month, it led a Series A funding round into Crypto GPT, an AI-powered blockchain platform. A $60 million investment in layer one blockchain EOS followed.

A spokesperson for TRON expressed delight in partnering with DWF Labs, acknowledging their expertise and excellence in further strengthening the TRON ecosystem. Together, the aim is to advance TRON’s vision of a decentralized future, empowering decentralized commerce and community for every individual worldwide.

By joining TRON as a liquidity provider, DWF Labs intends to contribute to the growth and development of the TRON ecosystem. This partnership aims to enhance the accessibility of the blockchain network for all TRON users and community members.

TRON, founded in September 2017 by Justin Sun, has achieved significant milestones since the launch of its Mainnet in May 2018. Notably, the integration of BitTorrent, a decentralized Web3 services pioneer with over 100 million monthly active users, into the TRON ecosystem in July 2018. TRON has gained significant traction, with over 166.5 million total user accounts, more than 5.85 billion total transactions, and over $11.52 billion in total value locked (TVL) as of June 2023, according to TRONSCAN.

WazirX Founder’s Blockchain Startup Raises $5.4M

WazirX Founder’s Blockchain Startup Raises $5.4MShardeum, a highly-scalable layer-1 blockchain utilizing dynamic state sharding, has successfully closed a strategic raise of $5.4 million. The project was co-founded by Nischal Shetty, who also founded leading Indian cryptocurrency exchange WazirX.Photo by Shubham Dhage on UnsplashWorking towards mainnet launchThe funding round saw participation from prominent investors including Galxe, J17 Capital, JSquare, and TRGC, among others. Singapore’s Amber Group, a digital assets trading, products, and infrastructure firm, also participated. The additional capital will be used to facilitate the expansion of Shardeum’s ecosystem, leading up to the highly anticipated mainnet launch later this year. As part of that launch, it will also introduce $SHM, its native token. 5% of $SHM tokens are being allocated to ecosystem development and to community airdrops. What is Shardeum?Shardeum is a highly-scalable EVM-based layer-1 blockchain that utilizes dynamic state sharding. By employing dynamic state sharding, Shardeum ensures low gas fees and high transactions per second as the network expands. The platform achieves consensus at the transaction level, reducing the computational power required for validator nodes. This composition means that it’s engineered for linear scalability. This consensus mechanism enables broad accessibility and increased decentralization by allowing anyone to run a node. Through the power of dynamic state sharding, Shardeum offers a scalable and secure solution that addresses the blockchain trilemma while ensuring decentralization for all participants.Dynamic state shardingSince its establishment in 2022, Shardeum has been focused on delivering a highly-scalable EVM-based layer-1 blockchain with dynamic state sharding capabilities. As of Friday, the Shardeum testnet has already witnessed over 7.4 million transactions, with over 820,000 accounts and more than 230,000 contracts deployed.Kelsey McGuire, the Chief Growth Officer at Shardeum, expressed enthusiasm about the completion of the strategic raise, emphasizing the company’s commitment to cultivating a global and diverse community. McGuire highlighted Shardeum’s consensus design and the accessibility of validator participation, regardless of users’ computing resources. The additional funding will further support Shardeum’s dedication to decentralization by fostering worldwide community growth through educational initiatives and other key programs.Initial $18.2M seed roundIn addition to the aforementioned investors, the strategic raise attracted notable participants such as Bware Labs, Tané Labs, Hyperithm Group, and Luganodes, among others. This round follows Shardeum’s successful seed round in October 2022, which raised $18.2 million and involved backers such as Jane Street, Big Brain Holdings, Struck Crypto, The Spartan Group, Ghaf Capital, DFG, CoinGecko Ventures, and Foresight Ventures. Funding from that initial seed round went towards hiring more employees, expanding the Shardeum network, and growing its community.A Shardeum project team member told The Block that the raise now places a valuation on the overall company of around $248 million. Shetty recently told Forbes that he believes Shardeum can be a direct competitor to Ethereum. The WazirX Founder outlined that the blockchain was envisioned on the basis of low fees and scalability regardless of the extent of the network growth that transpires.

Dubai’s VARA grants WadzPay ‘initial approval’ of trading license

Dubai’s VARA grants WadzPay ‘initial approval’ of trading licenseIn the latest demonstration of the emirate’s crypto-friendly credentials, Dubai regulator, the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), has granted an “Initial Approval” license to WadzPay.WadzPay was founded in 2018 in Singapore as a business-to-business (B2B) technology firm that concentrates its efforts on enabling digital asset-based transaction processing and settlement. This licensing approval is a significant step forward for the startup, as it inches closer to obtaining a full-fledged Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license.Photo by Paul MARSAN on UnsplashGearing up for service roll-outWith this approval in hand, WadzPay is gearing up to offer a range of virtual asset services, specifically under the forthcoming VASP License for Transfer and Settlement, as well as Broker-Dealer trading activities. That said, the current VARA license places certain restrictions on WadzPay’s offerings. While WadzPay is known for providing a wide array of services to businesses (B2B) and individual users through its B2B2C platform, the “Initial Approval” license limits its scope to only a subset of its virtual asset products and services.Flurry of approvalsDubai has taken center stage in the realm of crypto-friendly jurisdictions, granting a flurry of operational licenses to numerous crypto firms and exchanges in recent months. The regulatory framework in Dubai is underpinned by robust guidelines for VASPs. To operate fully within this framework, crypto firms must navigate a meticulous three-tier licensing process, starting with provisional approval, followed by a minimal viable product (MVP) license, culminating in a total market product license. One of the recent beneficiaries of VARA’s approvals is Backpack, a virtual currency wallet provider. Last month, Backpack received its VASP license, allowing the introduction of the Backpack Exchange to the market. However, similar to WadzPay’s situation, Backpack’s license comes with certain limitations. It permits the offering of crypto exchange services within Dubai but restricts the rollout of other virtual asset services. The Backpack Exchange sets itself apart with advanced features, including zero-knowledge (ZK) proof-of-reserves, multi-party computation (MPC) for secure custody and lightning-fast order execution capabilities.Nomura portfolio company approvalsKomainu, a collaborative venture involving financial heavyweights like Nomura, CoinShares and Ledger, is another notable success story. After a diligent licensing journey, Komainu secured its full operating license from VARA, approximately 10 months after obtaining its MVP license in November 2022.Laser Digital, a crypto division under the vast umbrella of financial giant Nomura, also earned its operational license from VARA in August. Through its dedicated subsidiary, Laser Digital Middle East FZE, based conveniently in Dubai, Nomura has showcased its VASP license. The permit enables the firm to offer a suite of services, including brokerage, virtual asset management and investment offerings within the emirate.Notably, Laser Digital’s licensure followed closely on the heels of Binance, the global crypto exchange. Binance secured its operational minimum viable product (MVP) license from VARA, paving the way for providing crypto exchange and virtual asset broker-dealer services within the region. This flurry of licensing activities and approvals in Dubai is suggestive of the emirate’s commitment to fostering a progressive and regulated crypto environment.
