New local payment methods

According to a recent press release, the integration offers a direct-to-customer plugin, providing access to a diverse range of cryptocurrencies. The move aims to enhance Bitcoin.com's reach, particularly in Asian and Latin American markets, by incorporating new local payment methods.

Bitcoin.com emphasized the significance of Alchemy Pay's integration, suggesting that it represented a streamlined transition between fiat and crypto with an expanded array of local payment options. This development aligns with Bitcoin.com's goal of meeting the needs of its user base in Asia and Latin America.

Alchemy Pay's payment gateway facilitates transactions using major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Diners Club across 173 countries. Additionally, the platform supports domestic transfers and mobile wallet payments in developing markets. Alchemy Pay attempts to make the know-your-customer (KYC) process frictionless, coupling that service offering with low fees and competitive conversion rates. The firm’s overriding mission is to make cryptocurrency transactions as convenient as typical online payments.

Focusing on industry partnerships

Alchemy Pay has been pursuing industry collaborations at an ever increasing rate over the course of the past year. The network boasts over 300 fiat payment channels, enabling checkouts beyond card payments to include various local mobile wallet options.

Last month, it clinched a deal with global payment processor, Worldpay. That collaboration facilitates Alchemy Pay service users in leveraging Worldpay’s extensive Visa and Mastercard payment rails. Back in July, it struck a similar deal with global payments processor, Checkout.com.

The company has also been active in the United States. Within that market, it has secured money transmitter licenses in the states of Iowa and Arkansas. It’s understood that the firm has more such licensing applications in the works in other U.S. states.

At the end of November, Alchemy partnered with self custody and multi-coin wallet project Trust Wallet, enabling the wallet providers 70 million users in engaging in crypto transactions involving fiat payments.

VERSE token

Bitcoin.com's native Token VERSE was launched in December 2022, acting as the platform’s rewards and utility token. The VERSE token has been enabled as a supported cryptocurrency as part of the Alchemy Pay platform integration.

The utility token serves as a method of payment in its own right within the Bitcoin.com ecosystem and beyond, unlocking rewards along different tiers, and providing access to exclusive platform services. Users worldwide can leverage the VERSE DEX, Bitcoin.com's decentralized exchange, to swap cryptocurrencies without reliance on third-party custodians.

Bitcoin.com’s goal is to simplify the process of buying, spending, trading, investing, earning and staying informed about cryptocurrency and the future of finance. Millions of users utilize Bitcoin.com's multi-chain digital wallet app for various crypto-related activities.

Meanwhile, Alchemy Pay supports transactions in 173 countries. The ramp, a one-stop solution for buying and selling crypto and fiat, can be seamlessly integrated by platforms and dApps as needed.

OPNX Makes a Play for Struggling Crypto Lender Hodlnaut

OPNX Makes a Play for Struggling Crypto Lender HodlnautIn a strategic move OPNX, the crypto claims trading platform associated with the founders of failed Singaporean crypto hedge fund Three Arrows Capital (3AC), is eyeing the acquisition of Hodlnaut, a beleaguered crypto lender currently undergoing court-supervised restructuring in Singapore.Photo by Meriç Dağlı on UnsplashCompelling offerThat’s according to a person familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg News on Sunday, together with a term sheet seen by Bloomberg. It’s understood that OPNX has presented a compelling offer to infuse Hodlnaut with a much-needed capital injection of approximately $30 million worth of FLEX digital tokens. These tokens are closely tied to CoinFLEX, a trading platform that ran into difficulty in 2022, co-founded by Mark Lamb and Sudhu Arumugam. The Seychelles-based company rebranded and relaunched as OPNX earlier this year with the 3AC founders on board. The FLEX token holds a current market valuation of around $647 million, according to CoinGecko data.Partial creditor payoutThe OPNX proposal aims to fund a partial creditor payout to facilitate the resolution of pending claims. This proposal comes on the heels of efforts by Hodlnaut’s directors to reach out directly to its users, a move that was met with objections by the interim judicial managers overseeing Hodlnaut’s restructuring. A letter dated July 29 from the administrators confirms this development.Under the terms of the deal outlined in a term sheet, OPNX’s capital injection through FLEX tokens would translate into a 75% ownership stake in Hodlnaut. The restructuring plan, if approved by creditors, would see these creditors receiving 30% of their claims in FLEX and other tokens. Alternatively, they would be entitled to a pro-rata payment of up to 95% of the total available corporate assets, whichever is more favorable to them.Hodlnaut, headquartered in Singapore with operations also in Hong Kong, got caught up in crypto market turbulence, leading to a suspension of withdrawals a year ago. Subsequently, it embarked on a court-monitored restructuring journey in Singapore. Neither Hodlnaut nor its judicial managers have provided immediate comments on the OPNX bid.The founders of Hodlnaut, Simon Lee and Zhu Juntao, had earlier proposed a business sale as a preferable alternative to liquidation. This proposal aimed to provide better outcomes for creditors, who had initially expressed preference for liquidation over a proposed restructuring plan earlier in the year.OPNX reprimandThe journey of both OPNX and Hodlnaut is also marked by legal and regulatory challenges. In April, authorities in Dubai reprimanded Su Zhu, Kyle Davies, Mark Lamb, OPNX’s CEO Leslie Lamb, and Sudhu Arumugam for operating and promoting OPNX without the required local license. Meanwhile, the liquidators of 3AC have alleged a lack of cooperation by Zhu and Davies, as they seek to recover $1.3 billion from the duo, reflecting the losses preceding the fund’s downfall. The 3AC founders recently claimed that they would donate OPNX profits to 3AC creditors. However, Kyle Davies is fighting the efforts of the 3AC liquidator to reclaim funds from the founders.

Uzbekistan’s New Private Bank Joins National Crypto Card InitiativeIn a step towards enhancing its cryptocurrency ecosystem, the Republic of Uzbekistan has given the green light to include another private bank in its ongoing national crypto card project. This unique framework empowers specific entities within Uzbekistan’s crypto sphere to provide specialized services. JSV Ravnaq Bank has now been registered as a member of this regime, enabling its active participation in the pilot phase of the nation’s crypto card project.Virtual bank cardThis initiative is poised to introduce a virtual bank card named “CRYPTO CARD — UzNEX.” The card’s standout feature is its ability to facilitate automatic fund addition to users’ primary accounts. This is achieved by swiftly converting crypto assets from a digital wallet on a partner crypto exchange platform.A vital aspect of the crypto card’s development lies in its compatibility testing with various financial systems, including the widely used Mastercard payment platform. According to NAPP’s statement, the participant bank within the special regulatory regime will be rigorously testing the integration of the automated banking system, crypto-exchange information system, bank processing center, and the MasterCard international payment system.December launchNotably, the addition of Ravnaq Bank marks the second entrant into the project, with Kapital Bank being the first participant approved in May. While Kapital Bank’s testing phase commenced at the end of June 2023, Ravnaq Bank is set to initiate its test launch by the end of October 2023. Both banks are expected to launch the full project by late December, in accordance with NAPP’s timeline.Beyond these private banks, the Special Regulatory Sandbox Regime also includes UZINFOCOM, a company authorized to develop NFT certificates based on distributed data registry technology.
