Parliament petition to delay crypto tax by 2 years passes 80% of support threshold

September 11, 2026, 12:38 AM
A parliamentary petition calling for a two-year delay to taxation on virtual assets, or digital assets, has drawn more than 40,000 supporters. The petition had 40,336 signatures, equal to 81% of the National Assembly petition threshold of 50,000. If it reaches the quorum by Sept. 20, the petition will be referred to a relevant standing committee. The petition argues for a two-year delay on digital asset taxation, saying the policy could sharply reduce exchange revenue and in turn cut corporate tax receipts. A separate petition calling for the tax to be scrapped entirely was previously referred to a standing committee after surpassing 50,000 signatures in May. The government is currently pushing to implement the tax as scheduled in January 2027, while the People Power Party opposes the plan, citing inadequate infrastructure.
