The index, published by the cryptocurrency market data platform, compares the price performance of the top 100 coins by market capitalization, excluding stablecoins and wrapped coins, against Bitcoin. An altcoin season is identified when 75% of the top 100 coins have outperformed Bitcoin over the past 90 days, while the opposite is considered a Bitcoin season. A reading closer to 100 indicates stronger altcoin-season conditions.

The spot CVD chart refers to an order-book analysis chart for the BTC/USDT spot trading pair. The upper section shows the volume heatmap, while the lower section represents cumulative volume delta, or CVD.
- The volume heatmap tracks trading volume at each price level. The background color becomes brighter when the price stays in a specific range for an extended period or moves sharply. Areas closer to brighter colors may act as support or resistance levels.
- The cumulative volume delta indicator in the lower section reflects buy and sell orders by order size. As buy orders increase, the line in the corresponding color rises. The yellow line represents orders between $100 and $1,000, while the brown line represents large orders between $1 million and $10 million.

Former U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Commissioner Chris Giancarlo criticized the crypto industry’s fixation on the CLARITY Act, saying crypto innovation and growth will continue even without the bill, according to BeInCrypto.
Giancarlo said the legislation would be welcome, but noted there is still no internet-specific law even 30 years after internet innovation began. Giancarlo added that a blockchain-based financial transition will eventually take place even if the CLARITY Act does not pass. Meanwhile, with the U.S. Senate’s schedule now set ahead of its recess scheduled for Aug. 10, a decision on whether to place the CLARITY Act on the Senate floor agenda appears likely within the next 72 hours.

BitGo CEO Mike Belshe challenged generative AI company Anthropic to hack a wallet holding 100 BTC, BeInCrypto reported.
The dispute began with Anthropic’s AI safety evaluation report released on July 30. The report said Claude hacked systems at three real companies during testing. Anthropic promoted the result as evidence of the AI model’s cyberattack capabilities, while some critics argued it amounted to little more than walking through doors left open by security misconfigurations. Belshe said either Anthropic was incapable of building a sandbox, or safe isolated environment, or was obsessed with marketing, and urged the company to prove its real capabilities. The wallet address Belshe disclosed, which holds 100 BTC, has shown no movement so far.

Craig Wright, who has claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, criticized Bitcoin’s governance and developer-led structure, BeInCrypto reported. Wright argued Bitcoin’s base protocol should remain permanently fixed and said a small group of developers with the authority to modify it is undermining the asset’s core nature. Wright has previously been ruled by a UK court not to be Satoshi and to have forged documents.

The U.S. SEC has paused Nasdaq PHLX’s proposed listing of cash-settled Bitcoin index options after accepting a petition from CME Group challenging the agency’s jurisdiction, The Block reported.
According to the report, CME argued the approval should be withdrawn because Bitcoin is a commodity and therefore falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the CFTC. The SEC accepted the petition and put the listing on hold after its staff had approved the Nasdaq PHLX proposal.

An on-chain message has surfaced offering to launder Bitcoin stolen through an entropy flaw in Coinkite’s Coldcard hardware wallets, help evade know-your-customer checks, and cash out the funds in exchange for a 10% fee, Bitcoin.com reported. The theft linked to the random-number-generation flaw has now exceeded 1,359.88 BTC. Industry participants are watching whether the message is a genuine offer from a criminal group or a trap set by investigators or security experts to lure the hacker.
Meanwhile, an emergency firmware patch released by Coinkite to fix the random-number-generation flaw is causing further confusion. Users who installed it have increasingly reported that devices including the Mk4, Q and Mk3 are freezing on error screens or failing to boot entirely, leaving them bricked.

Michael Saylor, founder of Strategy (MSTR), said on X that as of Bitcoin block height 960,561, BIP-110 signaling appeared in just 24 of 946 blocks, or 2.54%, and all of those signals came from DATUM miners in Bitcoin mining pool OCEAN. Saylor said reaching the 55% threshold for voluntary approval had become mathematically impossible during the period and argued this did not represent miner consensus.
He added that OCEAN had enabled BIP-110 signaling by default on its legacy endpoint and said BIP-110 was effectively functioning like a vertically integrated marketing campaign for Bitcoin Knots and DATUM. Saylor also said BIP-110 software rejected all non-signaling blocks in the 961,632-961,647 block range, meaning the 100% signaling rate during that span was the result of rule enforcement rather than voluntary support.

Crypto analyst Darkfost said about $2.2 billion in stablecoins saw net outflows from Binance in July, bringing cumulative net outflows since the start of the year to $7 billion.
Darkfost added that persistent stablecoin outflows suggest investors are pulling funds out of the market rather than reinvesting them, reflecting risk-off sentiment rather than transfers between exchanges. While BTC has remained resilient above $60,000, Darkfost said a recovery in stablecoin demand is needed for a broader market rebound.
