A Reddit user in a Bitcoin-focused community claimed Anthropic’s AI model Claude identified the Coldcard code vulnerability tied to the theft of about 1,367 BTC in roughly eight minutes. Using the ID Impressive-Gene-421, the user said in the subreddit that Claude Code was simply asked to check for vulnerabilities and, after about eight minutes of reasoning, identified the critical flaw behind the hack. The user added it was hard to believe someone using AI could steal about $100 million worth of BTC simply because no one had properly reviewed the source code. Meanwhile, the attacker behind the Coldcard vulnerability had carried out a fourth attack targeting hardware wallet users as of this morning, bringing cumulative losses to 1,367 BTC, or about $86 million.

SBI Holdings said weakness across the cryptocurrency market, including XRP, reflects investor caution as the market waits for progress on the U.S. CLARITY Act, according to The Crypto Basic. SBI holds 6.6 trillion yen ($42.2 billion) worth of XRP. Despite the market downturn, Nishikawa also said the company’s crypto market-making business remained profitable and that SBI was continuing to expand the business, including by pursuing the acquisition of Japanese exchange Bitbank.

Bitcoin's price volatility is now lower than that of the South Korean stock market, BeInCrypto reported on Aug. 3, citing Bloomberg data. The publication noted that this year, the standard deviation of daily fluctuations for the KOSPI index has been 63%, while Bitcoin's has been only 48%. This metric measures how much daily returns deviate from their average, indicating the degree of market turbulence. BeInCrypto added that this lower volatility for Bitcoin stems from its steady downtrend since reaching an all-time high in October of last year, with its price down approximately 29% year-to-date.

Concerns over extreme downside risk in the Bitcoin options market are gradually easing, according to crypto options trading platform BIT (formerly Matrixport). The platform noted that while the negative spread of the option skew—the difference in implied volatility between call and put options—has widened again, this could be part of a trend toward forming a higher low. However, a rebound is contingent on Bitcoin maintaining the $62,000 support level. BIT suggested that current market participants hold relatively small positions, which should limit further selling pressure. The trend in the options market this week will be critical, as a narrowing of the negative option skew could revive Bitcoin's upward momentum. Geopolitical risks and rising U.S. Treasury yields remain the primary macroeconomic risks, BIT added.

According to crypto analyst Murphy (@Murphychen888), Bitcoin long-term holders, defined as those holding for over 155 days, have moved more than 65,000 BTC daily over the past two days. The analyst suggested this could be a risk-off maneuver driven by uncertainty around monetary policy and geopolitical events. Murphy noted on X that of the total volume moved, approximately 14,000 BTC was deposited into exchanges, including a 2,628 BTC transfer from Trump Media (DJT) to Crypto.com. He attributed the activity to several factors: the possibility of a U.S. Federal Reserve rate hike, prolonged conflict in the Middle East, and re-emerging inflation variables. Other potential risks cited include concerns over high valuations in the U.S. stock market's AI sector and a concentration of yen carry trade positions. If these large-scale movements from long-term holders continue, it could create downward pressure on the broader market, Murphy added.

The CLARITY Act was not included in the U.S. Senate’s voting schedule released on Aug. 3, lowering the chances that Senate leaders will bring the bill to the floor before the chamber’s recess scheduled for Aug. 10, according to CryptoSlate. The U.S. Senate is set to convene at 7:00 p.m. UTC today, but will only hold a cloture vote related to H.R.6500 rather than take up the CLARITY Act, the report said. Under Senate procedure, the CLARITY Act would still need to go through the scheduling process from a cloture petition to a vote, although lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties could shorten the timeline by petitioning to accelerate the process or reaching unanimous consent. Still, prospects for passage remain unclear as seven Democratic senators seen as potential negotiating partners are calling for further talks, saying the publicly released CLARITY Act draft is insufficient. The bill needs 60 votes to pass, meaning Republicans would need support from at least seven Democrats if all Republican senators vote in favor.

Galaxy Digital Head of Research Alex Thorn said a fourth apparent theft wave targeting Coldcard hardware wallet users is underway. Thorn said a pattern over the past roughly two hours and 30 minutes showed 388.93 BTC moving through 218 transactions from 462 victim addresses to 216 new addresses. Some of the transactions are still in the mempool, Thorn said, adding users may still be able to protect funds by using RBF (Replace-By-Fee) to attach higher fees. Thorn also said all UTXOs used in the transactions were created with flawed Coldcard firmware, while transaction frequency was about 45 times higher than before the incident, indicating a high likelihood of an additional attack. Earlier, more than 1,359.88 BTC was stolen due to a random number generation flaw in Coldcard, and reports also emerged that some devices were bricked and failed to boot after an emergency firmware release.
