The Aptos Foundation has outlined plans to revamp APT tokenomics, including cutting the annual staking reward rate to 2.6% from 5.19%, raising gas fees tenfold, and capping total supply at 2.1 billion APT, according to Wu Blockchain.
The foundation also said it plans to permanently lock and stake 210 million APT, equal to about 18% of the current supply, and fund operations through staking rewards rather than token sales. Future ecosystem grants will be determined by whether performance metrics are met, while a buyback program funded by cash reserves and future revenue is also under review.
The foundation said the initial four-year token unlock cycle is set to end in October, which is expected to reduce annual token unlock volume by 60%. It added the changes are aimed at lowering token issuance and increasing token burns, and APT could shift to a deflationary structure if the plan proceeds as proposed.

Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley said BWOW, the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF scheduled to cease operations on Oct. 14 local time, showed a gap between ETF traders and users of crypto trading apps, according to an interview with The Block at Digital Asset Summit 2026 Asia.
Horsley said he likes Dogecoin and holds it, adding he sees authenticity in the token itself. But as an ETF, it delivered no meaningful results, he said. Horsley added ETF traders did not want exposure to Dogecoin, although that could change over time. He said Bitwise's job is to identify the opportunities investors want to access and develop useful products around them.

The boundary between traditional finance and on-chain finance could eventually disappear, Fidelity Digital Assets head of strategy Matthew Horne said during a panel discussion, according to Crypto Briefing.
Horne said the gap between the two could vanish entirely, leaving only finance, and rejected the idea of a competitive dynamic between traditional finance and decentralized finance. Instead, on-chain finance is more likely to absorb traditional finance or be absorbed by it, Horne said, adding that the labels may ultimately stop mattering.
He also said institutional assets are moving on-chain at a very fast pace, with the main driver being the opportunity to enter new markets that offer investors better access.
