About OLA GG

OLA GG is renowned as the largest Spanish-speaking Web3 gaming community with over 400,000 participants from different Hispanic regions. It is also the subDAO — a decentralized autonomous organization created by another decentralized autonomous organization — of Yield Guild Games (YGG). With the help of YGG’s infrastructure and assets, the guild onboards gamers to the metaverse and offers various opportunities, including creating various Web3 content and winning rewards through events.

A thriving Web3 ecosystem for millions

Based on the partnership with OLA GG, XPLA aims to establish a sustainable Web3 ecosystem for over 450 million Spanish-speaking users across Europe and Latin America to expand its influence and user base. XPLA’s mainnet recently onboarded major play-to-own (P2O) games in July, such as Com2uS Group’s globally popular intellectual property games Summoners War: Chronicle, Ace Fishing: Crew, and Minigame Party.

“We expect this exciting collaboration will provide new opportunities and possibilities to the OLA GG community. With XPLA, we will lead the era of new Web3-based games,” said Nico del Pino, co-founder of OLA GG.

Yunfeng Financial buys 10K ETH as Hong Kong firms deepen push into digital assets

Yunfeng Financial Group has purchased 10,000 Ethereum (ETH) on the open market for $44 million, the Hong Kong–listed fintech said in a Sept. 2 statement. The company described the move as part of a broader plan to increase exposure to digital assets, joining firms such as Bitmine Immersion Technologies and SharpLink Gaming that have incorporated ETH into corporate treasuries.Photo by DrawKit Illustrations on UnsplashETH backs RWA strategy, inflation hedgeThe acquisition follows Yunfeng’s July outline to expand into Web3, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, artificial intelligence, and ESG-linked assets aimed at net-zero goals. Yunfeng said ETH could support its Web3 and RWA businesses, help optimize assets, and provide a hedge against traditional currencies. It is also exploring ways to incorporate ETH into insurance products. The RWA market has grown in recent months, with on-chain RWAs totaling $28.19 billion at the time of publication, up 7.37% from a month earlier, according to data from RWA.xyz. Yunfeng noted it may adjust the size of its ETH reserves in line with market conditions, regulation, and its financial position. The company said the purchase falls below Hong Kong Stock Exchange disclosure thresholds: all five percentage ratios—assets, profits, revenue, consideration, and equity capital—remain under 5%. It stated it will meet disclosure requirements if future transactions push holdings beyond the relevant limits. Institutions drive ETH momentumThe announcement comes amid heightened interest in ETH. CryptoRank data show a 30% year-to-date price increase, and Tom Lee, Fundstrat’s head of research and chair of BitMine, has forecast a near-term range of $4,000 to $5,450. He argued that Ethereum is well placed to serve institutional use cases, pointing to its role in hosting more than half of the roughly $250 billion stablecoin supply and its prominence in asset tokenization. Hong Kong continues to position itself as a regional hub for blockchain and digital assets despite Mainland China’s 2021 ban on crypto trading. In a separate development, Fosun Wealth Holdings launched tokenized shares of Sisram Medical, an Israeli med-tech company listed in Hong Kong. The tokens, representing about $328 million in market value, were deployed across Vaulta, Solana (SOL), Ethereum, and Sonic. Fosun said it plans to tokenize additional corporate bonds and shares, without naming issuers or setting a timeline. Other local companies have also disclosed crypto exposure. Linekong Interactive Group reported holdings of 92.07 BTC, 943.63 ETH, and 6,091.7 SOL as of June 30 after purchases in the first half of the year, with cumulative unrealized gains of roughly $7.5 million. Linekong said it views crypto as a long-term investment and may increase its holdings pending board and shareholder approval.

Tether Alters ToS in Singapore Restricting USDT Redemption

Tether Alters ToS in Singapore Restricting USDT RedemptionTether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin, USDT, has made substantial revisions to its Terms of Service (ToS), which may have a significant impact on its user base in Singapore.News of the change emerged on Monday, with Dr. Julian Hosp, CEO of Cake Group, the project team behind Singapore-based Cake DeFi, taking to social media and providing a copy of an email from Tether’s Compliance Department, confirming the change. That notification read:”Tether has changed its terms of service to, among other things, restrict its onboarding standards. Corporates controlled by; another entities, directors, shareholders residing in Singapore are no longer permitted to be Tether customers.”In his commentary, Hosp stated that he wouldn’t be in a position to confirm “if redeeming $USDT into $USD is actually possible, due to being in #Singapore.”Photo by DrawKit Illustrations on UnsplashToS Change in ContextWithin the cryptocurrency ecosystem, eyebrows have been raised regarding the timing of Tether’s ToS change, as it has coincided with a major instance of crypto-related money laundering. Conversely, some argue that the issue could be specific to Cake DeFi. The DeFi protocol had been flagged for enhanced due diligence (EDD), suggesting that the modification in Tether’s ToS might potentially be a result of a partnership issue between the two entities.Stablecoins like USDT play a pivotal role in the digital asset ecosystem, serving as a bridge between the volatile world of cryptocurrencies and the stability of traditional fiat currencies like the US dollar. Any disruption in their usage can trigger a domino effect in the crypto markets. The cryptocurrency sector is grappling with regulatory uncertainties worldwide, and Singapore is no exception. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has been actively reviewing and updating its crypto-related regulations to align with international standards and mitigate risks to financial stability. The precise motive behind Tether’s decision to restrict USDT redemption for specific customers in Singapore remains unclear. Notwithstanding that, Tether’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Paolo Ardoino expressed the view that the matter is being misunderstood. He tweeted:Spreading FUD”Before spreading FUD [fear, uncertainty and doubt] it would be great if you guys did take a look at webarchive… This is Jan 2022…. And if you open the link below: Last updated: May 12, 2020… Again, take a moment to search and verify information before YOLO [you only live once] posting.”Clearly Ardoino is making the point that the ToS change is consistent with existing compliance policy which has been in place since 2020. Notwithstanding that, in reviewing related records, media outlet Protos found that USDT issuance and redemption after May 2020 demonstrate that the firm continued to do business with Singapore-based entities. The publication cited UQPAY specifically, a Singapore-based payments processor. It was found to have issued USDT between May 14 and May 18 in 2020.

SUI hits new ATH following blockchain academy collaboration

The SUI token has surged to an all-time high (ATH) price after the revelation of the project’s partnership with the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to establish the AUS-Sui Blockchain Academy. SUI is the native token of the Sui blockchain, a layer one blockchain network and smart contract platform that’s striving to make digital asset ownership private, secure and accessible. The AUS-Sui Blockchain AcademyAccording to a press release published via regional news media outlet Zawya on Monday, the AUS-Sui Blockchain Academy is situated within the multidisciplinary Center of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Sustainable Development, within the AUS. It’s been set out to align with the principles of entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability with the objective of fostering responsible and impactful technological advancement relative to blockchain. The Academy aims to equip the next generation of leaders and innovators with the necessary knowledge to harness Web3 technology so as to address future global challenges. Dr. Greg Siourouni, Managing Director of the Sui Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for the blockchain education initiative, emphasizing its role in advancing Sharjah's goal of becoming a leading educational and research hub.Photo by Ainur Kamaev on UnsplashPrice surgeIn response to the announcement, SUI's token price has surged. While it’s up 4% over the course of the past 24 hours, the token is now standing at a record-high unit price of $1.79 since its launch in May 2023. The positive momentum in SUI's price underscores market enthusiasm for the layer-1 blockchain platform's educational initiatives. However, other in-roads being made by the project may also be playing a role. Last September the project launched zkLogin, a Web3 authentication solution that enables dApp users to login using social media accounts. The following month, the Sui Foundation announced a $50 million ecosystem fund in an effort to bolster growth relative to the Sui network. AUS and SUI blockchain education initiativesThis latest initiative is part of Sharjah's vision to position itself as a regional powerhouse for education and research, particularly in the realm of technology and blockchain. It’s not the first blockchain-centric collaboration that the university has engaged in. In June of last year, Dubai-headquartered crypto spot and derivatives trading platform Bybit partnered with AUS to establish a scholarship fund of $272,000. That endeavor is supporting fintech and blockchain studies for the benefit of 20 students. The Sui Foundation too has established a track record where educational initiatives are concerned. It has previously introduced several programs, including a Web3-focused curriculum at the Wheeler Institute for Business and Development at the London Business School. Additionally, it awarded $400,000 in Sui Academic Research Awards (SARAs) to 15 universities worldwide and introduced a Web3 curriculum for high school students. SUI's partnership with AUS to establish the AUS-Sui Blockchain Academy reflects its commitment to advancing education and innovation in the blockchain space, while its price surge is suggestive of market optimism for its future endeavors.
