Web3 & Enterprise·July 18, 2023, 12:57 AM

Singapore’s OliveX, a crypto trading ecosystem solutions platform, marked a significant milestone on Sunday with the official launch of its governance token, OVE.

The introduction of this token allows users to participate in staking, mining, and unlocking other rewarding opportunities. OliveX was established to address challenges faced by traders within the crypto space.

Hybrid trading model

To that end, the platform has introduced its “Fusion-Ex” trading model, presenting a solution to the perpetual dilemma of choosing between centralized exchanges (CEX) and decentralized exchanges (DEX). By merging the strengths of both CEX and DEX, OliveX is attempting to optimize the trading environment for market participants.

Through the Fusion-Ex model, OliveX combines the user-friendly and fast experience of CEX with the transparency, security, and control offered by DEX. With this approach, it strives to strike a delicate balance, ensuring high efficiency while prioritizing user asset control. OliveX caters to the diverse needs of both novice and professional traders, while seeking to tailor trading services to these user groups.

The role of OVE in the OliveX Ecosystem, the governance token of OliveX, serves as the central component for value circulation within the ecosystem. It plays a pivotal role and offers numerous advantages to OVE token holders. These privileges include the right to propose and vote on ecosystem changes, receiving profit dividends, access to priority whitelists, and participating in airdrops.

AI Integration

AI integration has become a trend among crypto platforms of late. Singapore-based Crypto.com has harnessed AI for the benefit of its user base, as has global exchange, Binance. OliveX has also taken this approach, embracing the future of trading by incorporating AI technology. With its AI trading suite, it offers users a new and enhanced trading experience. The suite customizes an automated revenue model, enabling users to maximize their trading profits. Additionally, it seamlessly integrates with various DeFi applications, opening doors to various on-chain applications and expanding its user base as a consequence.

Recent IEO

OVE’s journey commenced with an Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) on July 6, which consisted of five rounds. The overwhelming response from the market was evident as each round ended with over-subscriptions. The total funds raised during the IEO surpassed $40 million, with over-subscription rates exceeding 3,000%. The high level of recognition and support was reflected in the participation of over 20,000 users.

Looking ahead, the OliveX ecosystem, including the forthcoming OVE Chain, continues to expand into new areas. The platform is promising further product development and updates over the coming months.

The official launch of OliveX’s governance token, OVE, is a significant step forward for the fledgling project. With the Fusion-Ex trading model, AI integration, and the versatility of OVE, the platform is certainly making every effort to differentiate itself and appeal to the crypto trading public.

Remitano Struck by $2.7M Alleged Hack

Remitano Struck by $2.7M Alleged HackHacks have been an unfortunate constant in the crypto and DeFi space with that reality having been compounded by news that Seychelles-based crypto exchange Remitano is believed to have been the victim of a $2.7 million heist.Photo by Growtika on UnsplashSuspicious transactionsIt’s understood that the firm encountered highly suspicious transactions, with the $2.7 million having seemingly vanished from its wallet, all at the hands of a single account. The incident unfolded on Thursday and has left blockchain analysts speculating about a potential security breach. The Remitano hot wallet initiated transfers to an address devoid of any prior transaction history. These transfers amounted to approximately $1.4 million in Tether (USDT), $208,000 in USD Coin (USDC), and 104,000 ANKR tokens (valued at $2,000 at the time). Those transfers raised concerns about the security of the platform.Israeli blockchain analytics platform Cyvers promptly sounded the alarm, notifying the crypto community about these suspicious transactions that had drained significant sums from Remitano’s coffers. This sudden event raised concern within the crypto space and naturally among Remitano customers.Tether freezes wallet addressAmid the growing apprehension, Tether, the issuer of USD stablecoin USDT, took decisive action by freezing the address associated with the alleged attacker. This swift intervention effectively halted any further movement of $1.4 million worth of drained cryptocurrency. Tether’s proactive response could potentially have prevented additional loss, preserving customers’ assets from further depletion.Remitano had remained notably silent initially in the wake of this incident, declining to issue any formal statement regarding the breach. It has since acted, as on Friday, it published a statement relative to the issue on its website. The absence of communication from the exchange had only fueled greater speculation surrounding the incident. However, the statement outlined:”On September 14, 2023, our Security Management team discovered a data breach from a third-party source that had compromised some of our sensitive information. As a result, a small amount of funds from the exchange’s hot wallets were transferred to suspicious wallet addresses through unauthorized withdrawal transactions.”Remitano, recognized as a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency exchange and payment processor, primarily caters to users in emerging markets across several countries, including Pakistan, Ghana, Venezuela, Cambodia, Kenya, Malaysia, India, South Africa, Vietnam, and Nigeria. The firm sought to reassure its customers:”As of now, Remitano ensures that users’ assets have NOT been and will NOT be affected by this incident. We are working tirelessly to uphold our commitment to ensuring the security and protection of your crypto assets.”Remitano was established in 2015; it is operated by Babylon Solutions Limited, which is headquartered in the Seychelles.Unfortunately, this episode adds to the troubling trend of cryptocurrency exchange hacks witnessed in 2023. Authorities in the United States have attributed these attacks to the Lazarus Group, a notorious cyber-crime organization allegedly linked to the North Korean government which has wreaked havoc globally although disproportionately so within the Asian region.

Hong Kong offers crypto ETF promise despite focus on U.S. approval

Industry leaders are turning their attention to Hong Kong as a notable location for spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). That speculation arises in anticipation of the United States granting approval for such ETFs, with Hong Kong emerging as a likely frontrunner in Asia. In a recent report, The Block spoke with a couple of prominent industry stakeholders, who appear to acknowledge the significance of moves towards seemingly expanding crypto ETF product offerings in Hong Kong, even though the bulk of the industry’s attention has been on U.S. spot bitcoin ETF approval.Photo by Simon Zhu on UnsplashU.S. ETF expectationsOn Monday, the research arm of crypto derivatives platform BitMEX calculated that the arrival of such a product in the United States could dwarf the total value locked within existing crypto-related exchange traded products (ETPs). Earlier this month, a researcher at crypto asset manager Bitwise suggested that U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs would be the most successful ETF products ever launched. Acknowledging Hong Kong’s positionWith all the focus on the U.S., could it be that Hong Kong will play a far greater role in the global crypto ETF business? Yat Siu, the chairman of Web3 investor Animoca Brands, highlighted the encouraging position of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) toward digital assets, laying a foundation for potential spot bitcoin ETFs. Referring to the SFC’s recent statement expressing openness to expanding access to digital assets, Siu emphasized the relatively uncontroversial nature of a spot Bitcoin ETF. He noted: “If you look at what the SFC had said about I think a month ago, it says that it was open to widen access to digital assets. And frankly, Bitcoin spot ETF is, I would say, relatively uncontroversial at the end of the day.” Poised to usher in spot ETFsAs the U.S. inches closer to approving its first spot bitcoin ETF, Hong Kong could likely follow suit, benefiting from the groundwork already laid by U.S. regulators. In fact, just last week both local regulators, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), signaled that they are happy to start to accept applications for the provision of crypto-related spot ETFs. Siu pointed out the abundance of public filings and applications that Hong Kong authorities can reference in shaping their regulatory framework. Julia Leung, SFC CEO, stated in November that the regulator was evaluating spot crypto ETFs while expressing openness to proposals leveraging innovative technology for efficiency and enhanced customer experience. Presently, Hong Kong has listed several futures-based crypto ETFs, including the Samsung Bitcoin Futures Active ETF, CSOP Bitcoin Futures ETF and CSOP Ether Futures ETF. Glenn Woo, Head of Sales of APAC at Web3 infrastructure company Blockdaemon, echoed the positive sentiment, noting that while traditional asset managers may have lingering concerns, there is a prevailing appetite for such financial instruments in Hong Kong. Woo, drawing on over a decade of experience in the traditional financial industry in Hong Kong, emphasized the growing interest, anticipating that the appetite will expand further once the U.S. approves its first bitcoin ETF. Hong Kong’s long-standing reputation as a global financial center, combined with the potential of crypto ETF products, will likely boost crypto adoption in the region and the significance of Hong Kong’s role in the sector with it.
