Rotonda, a subsidiary of South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb, has recently revamped its Web3 wallet Burrito Wallet to make the app more convenient for users, according to Korean news agency Etoday on Wednesday (local time). The newest version features an improved mainnet support system, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX), with a stronger focus on enhancing user convenience and creating a framework for optimal investment.

“Through this service renewal, we hope that many users will be able to experience a more convenient and unique web3 environment. We will continue to improve our services to establish Burrito Wallet as a user-friendly crypto wallet platform,” the company said.

Expanded options for token trading

Most notably, Burrito Wallet now offers cross-chain swapping, which allows users to trade token currencies that have been issued on different mainnets. This is a step up from regular crypto swapping, which only allows the swapping of tokens issued on the same mainnet. Cross-chain swapping between the Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Matic, Avalanche and Arbitrum mainnets is now supported by the deSwap Liquidity Network (DLN), a decentralized cross-chain exchange built by deBridge Finance. DLN facilitates secure and unlimited liquidity transfers across chains with zero slippage.

Rotonda added that it would continue to expand its lineup of swap platforms through collaborations with major industry names like Kana Labs, WOOFi and Unizen.

Better user experience

The company also added new features to help users make optimal investments. This includes a new notification bot dubbed “Burrito Chef,” which sends notifications for announcements, updates and events within the app. Users can quickly and conveniently check the insights they need to inform their personal investments and get the most out of the app’s services.

On the UI front, a “Home” tab has been added, which provides users with a concise overview at of the most commonly used features like wallet, swap and chat, along with the most popular content. Token rankings by category — such as most swapped tokens and most rising tokens — that were previously available on the “Swap” tab have been moved to the “Home” tab and placed in the foreground of the screen. Rotonda also explained that it aims to provide a more customizable experience by adding more detailed chart features.

The wallet also now supports the Sui mainnet, bringing the total number of supported mainnets to 12.

This development comes shortly after Rotonda recently launched Burrito Wallet in the Latin American region in a move to expand its global user base.

Noordiatmoko also mentioned that the exchange will offer trading services through an integrated application, which has already undergone testing by CFTRA.Plan delaysThe launch of the national cryptocurrency exchange was initially planned for June 2023 but faced delays, following a previous postponement from the original target of December 2022. The project gained traction in 2021 when a government-backed Indonesian telecoms company announced a partnership with Binance to develop a joint cryptocurrency exchange.According to the latest report, Bappebti intends to restrict cryptocurrency sales to local transactions while aligning with global market trends. Approval from Bappebti will also be required for cryptocurrency prices on the exchange.Bappebti has informed Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan about the progress of the national exchange. Noordiatmoko stated that unless further instructions are received, Bappebti will proceed to issue the necessary permit, allowing licensed traders one month to join the exchange. As of earlier this year, Indonesia had around 383 tradable crypto assets and ten local coins, with an additional 151 assets and ten coins under review by Bappebti.Indonesia’s central bank has released a white paper outlining its digital currency plans and approved a law classifying cryptocurrencies and digital assets as regulated financial securities. It has taken the lead in classifying 501 crypto assets, including BTC, ADA, BUSD, DOT, XTZ, and SAND, as commodities, setting an example that other nations may follow.Crypto is not permitted as a means of payment in Indonesia and in May the Governor of Bali warned foreign visitors against using it as such.In 2022, Indonesia’s trade ministry reported approximately 14 million cryptocurrency traders, surpassing the number of stock traders at 9 million. Meanwhile, the total trading value fell from 859 trillion rupiah in the previous year to around 300 trillion rupiah ($19.2 billion).Indonesia has been supportive of de-dollarization initiatives and the aspirations of BRICS nations to promote non-US fiat currencies. In April, the governor of the Bank of Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, announced the introduction of the Local Currency Transaction (LCT) as part of Indonesia’s currency diversification strategy, aligning with the BRICS countries.

SK C&C and NEAR Foundation Forge Strategic Partnership to Fuel Web3 Growth

SK C&C and NEAR Foundation Forge Strategic Partnership to Fuel Web3 GrowthSK C&C, the information and communications technology affiliate of the South Korean conglomerate SK Group, last week announced its strategic partnership with the NEAR Foundation, the organization supporting the NEAR Protocol blockchain, aiming to broaden its Web3 business initiatives. The partnership ceremony was held earlier this month at a hotel in Seoul and saw attendance from Choi Cheol, the Head of Web3 and Convergence Group at SK C&C, along with Marieke Flament, the CEO of the NEAR Foundation.NEAR Protocol is a layer 1 blockchain that enables enterprises to build private shards that can be connected to the public blockchain.Photo by Shubham Dhage on UnsplashBlockchain research and global marketingThrough this agreement, the two companies will establish a mutual support system to strengthen their business networks, cooperate on research and business projects related to blockchain technology, spanning all industries, and execute global marketing strategies to elevate their brands and accelerate the Web3 ecosystem.SK C&C’s ChainZ and NEAR ProtocolAs part of this initiative, the two sides seek to link SK C&C’s own blockchain platform, ChainZ, with NEAR Protocol to develop a Web3 market that supports both public and private blockchains. Focusing on the financial infrastructure sector, SK C&C aims to inject momentum into its ventures in domains like the sharing economy market — a flourishing ground for second-hand item trading platforms — and in the gaming, content, and commerce sectors, where the issuance of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) is expected.Tailored corporate solutionsThey will delve into the development of Web3 solutions tailored for corporations, concentrating on areas like supply chain management and enterprise resource planning (ERP). ChainZ’s Key Recovery System will play a pivotal role in enhancing security and simplifying account management, while NEAR Protocol will support high transaction speeds, scalability, and interoperability between multichains. For example, assets like inventories, orders, loans, and bills of lading can be marked with tokens based on NEAR Protocol. These can then be verified at each stage of an entire trade process through digital signatures recorded on ChainZ.Moreover, SK C&C will leverage the NEAR Foundation’s global network as a stepping stone for global market entry, while NEAR Protocol will utilize the business network of SK C&C to garner customers in the Korean market. This effort to expand NEAR’s presence in South Korea also aligns with its joining hands with Dongdaemun, an administrative district in Seoul, earlier this month.SK C&C’s Choi Cheol underscored the efforts underway across various industrial sectors, including public, finance, manufacturing, and commerce, to develop Web3 services driven by public blockchains. He stated that beginning with NEAR Protocol, SK C&C would intensify collaborations with different public blockchain projects to broaden the ecosystem for Web3 services.

Crypto community optimism across Asia following Trump’s election victory

Recognition of Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 6 has led to many crypto proponents in Asia foreseeing a positive outcome for crypto within the Asian region, and globally.Photo by Kevin Lanceplaine on UnsplashBright future for cryptoAccording to a report published by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), crypto proponents in China are expectant of a bright future for crypto both on the Chinese mainland and in Hong Kong. The mindset seems to be that a pro-crypto stance in the U.S. will lead to other jurisdictions taking a similar approach. HashKey CEO Livio Weng expressed such a view, stating:“Trump’s pro-crypto stance is expected not only to invigorate the US virtual-asset industry, but also to encourage Hong Kong to further relax its own virtual-asset policies in its quest to become a global Web3 hub.”  Prior to being elected, Trump had promised to fire Gary Gensler, who as Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has pursued a strategy of regulation by enforcement, a course of action that has been broadly criticized by crypto market participants in the United States. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse wasted no time in calling on Trump to act, and to fire Gensler. Influencing regulatory attitudesThere seems to be a consensus among commentators that the regulatory approach to crypto in the U.S. is going to become crypto-friendly. Crypto analyst Miles Deutscher suggests that “a Trump victory is a WIN for US tech innovation, as it would solidify [the United States’] status as a crypto powerhouse.” Weng believes that “this shift could also positively influence regulatory attitudes toward virtual assets in mainland China.” That view is mirrored in South Korea by KP Jang, head of Xangle Research. Jang asserts that “if Trump implements bold virtual asset policies while improving existing regulations, it is expected to accelerate regulatory reforms in Korea as well.” Sumit Gupta, CEO and co-founder of India’s largest crypto exchange, CoinDCX, outlined on X that Trump’s victory is a pivotal moment for global crypto, adding:”The direct effects of Trump’s policies might not alter India’s regulatory environment right away. However, global sentiment and investor behaviour will be influenced, eventually reaching India.” The CoinDCX CEO believes that should Trump now appoint regulatory leadership that’s crypto-positive, any resultant crypto regulatory framework adopted by the U.S. could become a blueprint for use by other nations. Gupta identified further potential upside insofar as the implementation of positive crypto policies by Trump would lead to a more attractive environment for crypto, “potentially opening up enhanced funding opportunities and partnerships for Indian startups as investors seek global growth.” Bitcoin price surgeAt the time of writing, the Bitcoin unit price is up 0.64% over the course of the past 24 hours, at $74,884. American business news channel CNBC reported that Bitcoin could reach $100,000 before Trump even takes office.  Matthew Hougan, chief investment officer (CIO) at crypto asset fund manager Bitwise, said that Trump’s election victory could herald in a “golden age of crypto,” with a friendlier regulatory environment leading to greater institutional investment and mainstream adoption.
