Web3 & Enterprise·November 25, 2023, 3:42 AM

BingX, the Singapore-headquartered cryptocurrency exchange platform, has taken the decision to rebrand the business.

Improving the trading experience

The platform, originally known for its role in guiding newcomers into the crypto space through copy trading, claims that the move is designed to elevate the trading experience for users by prioritizing simplicity, efficiency and security.

This transformation includes a substantial overhaul of BingX’s visual identity, highlighted by a streamlined logo that caters to the practical needs of traders. The changes extend to the platform’s color palette and typography on digital platforms, all aimed at making the trading process more intuitive and user-friendly.

Broadening market appeal

While initially recognized for its focus on crypto beginners, BingX is now broadening its horizons. The platform introduces advanced features catering to a diverse range of crypto enthusiasts, from novices to seasoned traders. This expansion underscores BingX’s adaptive approach to the dynamic cryptocurrency market, addressing the evolving needs of its user base.

Megan Nyvold, Head of Branding at BingX, outlined that the rebranding aligns with the company’s enduring vision of democratizing crypto trading globally, emphasizing diversity and creating professional, user-centric trading environments.

From ‘Trading Made Easy‘ to ‘Empowering Traders’

In tandem with the visual changes, BingX has also unveiled a new tagline, transitioning from “Trading Made Easy” to “Empowering Traders.” This shift emphasizes the company’s commitment to supporting traders at all levels, ensuring access to reliable and transparent services.

In a blog post published by the company on Thursday, Nyvold stated:

”Over the past five years, BingX’s vision to build a gateway for the next billion crypto users has been unwavering. As part of this evolution, we have refined our core values with a renewed emphasis on promoting diversity. As we introduce our refreshed brand identity, we reaffirm our assurance of empowering our users, focusing on a more professional and user-centric trading environment that aligns with our vision for collective success.”

This latest move is one of a number of ongoing efforts BingX has made this year to further develop the business. In July, the company introduced AstraBit to the platform, an automated algorithmic trading and portfolio management tool, to enhance and automate the crypto trading experience for its platform users.

The following month, it introduced a Multiple Deposit Addresses feature to enable greater flexibility and convenience for service users. September brought a collaboration with WunderTrading, adding the use of its automated trading bots to BingX platform users. Earlier this year, the company had integrated crypto portfolio tracker CoinTracking with the platform, in an effort to allow service users to generate reports for tax purposes with ease.

BingX was founded in Singapore in 2018 by Josh Lu. The platform claims to have five million service users.

Malaysia launches operation to clamp down on crypto tax evasion

The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) of Malaysia has launched an operation, which has been dubbed as “Ops Token,” to tackle tax evasion within crypto trading circles in the southeast Asian nation. Klang Valley raids According to the Malaysian English language newspaper, The Star, the special operation is a coordinated effort involving the Royal Malaysia Police and CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) alongside the IRB. The Malaysian tax authority raided ten locations, with 38 personnel involved in the raids, which were carried out within the Klang Valley region. The main objective of the raids and the operation overall, is to identify crypto corporate entities and individuals that had failed to report trading activities and therefore, associated revenues, profits and taxes. The initiative aligns with the Malaysian government’s broader strategy of stamping out tax evasion across all sectors, reducing revenue leakage and optimizing the nation’s tax take.Photo by Esmonde Yong on UnsplashStern warning for traders Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin, CEO of the IRB, issued a stern warning to crypto traders: declare and pay taxes or face compliance actions. Jamaluddin clarified that crypto traders are subject to the same income tax rules that are applied to businesses across various sectors throughout Malaysia. While cryptocurrency is not regarded as legal tender by Malaysia’s central bank, crypto-centric businesses must adhere to the nation's income tax regulations. The IRB commented on the operation via a statement published on June 15. It stated: "Through this operation, it was possible to find stored cryptocurrency trading data in mobile devices and computers. We have successfully identified the digital assets that are traded, which has caused significant tax revenue leakage." The agency intends to carry out further analysis on the data that it seized in a bid to ascertain the trading revenues generated, the profits derived from that trading activity and the taxes owed as a consequence. The IRB has asserted that a number of corporate entities and partnerships were specifically formed with the purpose of tax evasion. The agency estimates the total value of crypto-related transactions to date in 2024 to amount to 1.441 trillion Malaysian ringgits, approximately $310 billion. International enforcement efforts Malaysia is not alone in its efforts to ensure tax compliance relative to cryptocurrency trading and investing. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has established a set of crypto tax rules, namely the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF). The initiative is part of an effort to achieve a Common Reporting Standard (CRS) relative to crypto on an international basis, with OECD member states transposing the CARF into domestic law. The CARF is due to go live in 2027. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) maintains that crypto presents itself as a major headache for tax authorities globally. In a research paper published last year, it outlined that countries would need to update their tax systems in order to deal with the challenge that crypto presents with the potential for a leakage in tax revenues. In the United States, an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official stated in December 2023 that the agency has seen an increase in its caseload relative to crypto tax cases.

OKX launches OKX TR in Turkey

Leading global crypto exchange platform OKX has officially launched OKX TR, a specialized crypto exchange tailored to meet the needs of users in Turkey. This unveiling, announced on Feb. 27, marks a significant stride in the company’s efforts to offer Turkish users greater access to cryptocurrency trading and decentralized finance (DeFi).Photo by Engin Yapici on UnsplashOKX Wallet integrationOKX TR has integrated OKX's Web3 wallet, providing Turkish users with access to a wide array of features. The wallet offers a user-friendly portal for trading non-fungible tokens (NFTs), utilizing decentralized applications (dApps). Noteworthy features of the OKX Wallet include multi-party computation (MPC) technology and account abstraction (AA), enhancing accessibility for users with varying levels of technical expertise.OKX TR introduces localized features designed to cater specifically to Turkish users, including direct deposits and withdrawals in Turkish Lira, facilitated through strategic partnerships with banking institutions such as Fibabanka, VakıfBank, Ziraat Bankası, İş Bankası, Şekerbank and Türkiye Finans. The platform offers a range of major cryptocurrency pairs for trading, including USDT/TRY, BTC/TRY and ETH/TRY.  Moreover, OKX TR prioritizes user experience by providing round-the-clock customer support in both Turkish and English, attempting to provide prompt assistance and comprehensive guidance whenever needed. Crypto adoption backdropThe platform’s arrival should contribute further towards the burgeoning crypto ecosystem in Turkey, a market boasting a close to 50% adoption rate for cryptocurrencies. A report by OKX rival platform KuCoin back in August of last year found that there had been a significant increase in crypto users in Turkey over the course of the previous 18 months.  It’s believed that crypto adoption in Turkey is being driven partly by its role as a financial lifeline amid economic challenges. The country’s sovereign currency, the lira, has suffered from runaway inflation in recent years. On social media OKX Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Haider Rafique wrote that the new service offers “lightning fast signup and funding,” alongside the “lowest fees in the market.” Mehmet Çamır, Chairman of OKX TR, outlined that the company had first announced expansion into Turkey in May 2023. Çamır set out the company’s intentions within the Turkish market, stating:"The launch of OKX TR represents more than just an expansion; it signifies our pledge to equip users with a transparent, compliant and user-friendly gateway to the world of blockchain. . . . We can unlock the vast potential of the Turkish crypto community and pave the way towards a future where finance is more inclusive and transparent.” Turkey is in the process of introducing a raft of crypto regulations, primarily with the intention of enabling it to be removed from the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) “grey list.” In December, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed blockchain and cryptocurrency expert Fatma Ozkul to the Turkish central bank’s rate-setting committee. Those moves demonstrate some positive progress from the point of Erdogan’s statement in 2021 when he declared “a war on crypto.”
