January 9 debut

The arrangement, spanning the next six months, is expected to debut during Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg match against Middlesbrough on Jan. 9.

As part of this sponsorship, BingX will prominently feature on the front of Chelsea’s training kits for the upcoming 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, the current shirt sponsor, Infinite Athlete, will transition to a training sleeve sponsorship starting next season.

While details about the fate of Chelsea’s training kit deal with Trivago, an online hotel booking site, remain uncertain, the club is navigating sponsorship changes in the wake of owner Roman Abramovich’s prior ownership and UK government sanctions.

Corporate rebrand

Established in 2018, BingX operates as a cryptocurrency exchange headquartered in Singapore, catering to a user base of over 10 million in Southeast Asia and North America.

In November, the company announced that it was rebranding the business. Part of that process was understood to involve an overhaul of BingX’s visual identity, with the introduction of a streamlined logo. Sponsorship within the English Premier League is a high profile marketing move that will undoubtedly bring more visibility to that brand.

Crypto marketing spend rebound

The marketing spend of crypto firms relative to high profile sponsorship deals has recovered significantly in recent months. Such sponsorship deals peaked at the top of the crypto market in 2021. That period saw profligate spending by many of the large crypto platforms. A standout example was provided by the $135 million sponsorship deal signed by fraudulently run crypto exchange FTX for the Miami Heat stadium naming rights in the United States.

While that opulent sponsorship spending subsided during the bear market, it appears that there has been a modest resurgence as market conditions have improved. Seychelles-based crypto platform OKX has ongoing marketing relationships with the McLaren Formula One racing team and Manchester City Football Club.

In March, U.S.-based crypto exchange Kraken announced a marketing partnership with the Williams Formula One racing team. Earlier this week it emerged that crypto gambling platform Stake.com had signed a sponsorship deal with the Sauber Formula One team.

18 of the 20 English Premier League clubs are now understood to have agreed sponsorship deals at one time or another with crypto companies. This demonstrates the growing trend of cryptocurrency platforms associating with high-profile sports partnerships, enhancing their visibility and influence in the market.

Chelsea is actively seeking a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal, considering potential collaborations, including discussions with Saudi national carrier Riyadh Air. It’s understood that the BingX deal has been agreed for in excess of £10 million ($12.7 million) per season.

Bhutan Launches Blockchain-Based National ID System

Bhutan Launches Blockchain-Based National ID SystemBhutan, the Buddhist kingdom nestled along the eastern edge of the Himalayas, has introduced a blockchain-based National Digital Identity (NDI) system.Photo by Aaron Santelices on UnsplashDisrupting the delivery of government servicesThe blockchain-based cryptographic identity platform has the potential to revolutionize the way Bhutanese citizens access government services and conduct digital transactions. According to local Bhutanese media source BBS, the system was launched last week, giving Bhutanese citizens the opportunity to download the Bhutan NDI application directly to their mobile devices. The user-friendly application promises a seamless experience, marked by a straightforward login process. Once registered, citizens will gain access to an array of government services. These will include construction approvals, land taxes, passport services, birth and death registration certificates, as well as Royal University of Bhutan degree certificates and various business-related services, all within the confines of their digital wallets.Digital wallet alongside digital identityNotably, the development could have major implications where the future use of digital currency in Bhutan is concerned. The NDI is not just a digital identity but a digital wallet. That means that users have the option to link their bank accounts to the NDI app, facilitating financial transactions without the need to switch between multiple apps. As of now, the Bank of Bhutan is the first financial institution to integrate with the NDI app.The Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan (RMA) entered into a collaboration with enterprise blockchain firm Ripple Labs in September 2021 to develop and trial central bank digital currency (CBDC).Streamlining service deliveryThe GovTech Agency, the driving force behind the NDI project, envisions that this digital innovation will streamline and simplify the often arduous process of interacting with government agencies. Jigme Tenzing, the Acting Secretary of the GovTech Agency, explained the transformative potential, stating:“So, essentially what this enables for Bhutan is the ability to take almost all services and make them available online. This can virtually transform how services are provided in Bhutan. This is regarded as not only services that the government provides to citizens, but it can extend to even the private sector.”Some concerns have been raised with regard to this consolidation of personal information within a single platform. The GovTech Agency has responded by emphasizing the incorporation of biometric data, including fingerprint and facial recognition, to enhance identity verification and authentication. It feels that these measures are sufficient to safeguard data privacy.Crypto investmentThere had been little in the way of news emerging from the South Asian country where decentralized technology was concerned until earlier this year when it became known that the kingdom had been an investor on the failed crypto lender platforms of Celsius and BlockFi.It had done so through Druk Holdings and Investments (DHI), the commercial arm of the Royal Government of Bhutan. In May it emerged that DHI had entered into a partnership with Singapore-based Bitcoin mining firm Bitdeer, with the intention of developing green digital asset mining operations within the country. The National Digital Identity Act of Bhutan 2023 received Royal Assent in July, solidifying Bhutan’s status as the first sovereign nation to implement a comprehensive decentralized identity framework.

NPIXEL Wraps Up 2nd Community Test for Web3 Game “Gran Saga: Unlimited”

NPIXEL Wraps Up 2nd Community Test for Web3 Game “Gran Saga: Unlimited”Korean game developer NPIXEL announced on Tuesday the successful completion of the second community test for its Web3-based PC massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) called “Gran Saga: Unlimited.”The test — conducted over the course of two weeks with some 8,000 global participants — was aimed at enhancing the gameplay environment and strengthening community-based content ahead of the official release of the game.Photo by Andrey Metelev on UnsplashExploring game features and player-based developmentAccording to local news outlet ETnews, participants had the opportunity to try out various features within the game, including new dungeons, a 16-player raid, and a player-versus-player (PvP) battleground called “Chaos Field.” In particular, the “Idol & Fan” system garnered significant attention, where 100 global influencers who received soulbound tokens participated as “idols” to create diverse content with their “fandoms.”NPIXEL’s development team was actively engaged in the testing process, collaborating with users to strategize dungeon conquests and partake in community activities. They implemented real-time communication with users, gathering feedback and opinions to build a game that players directly contributed to.“Proof-of-Play”: The expansion of blockchain in gamingOne of the key features of Gran Saga: Unlimited is its Proof-of-Play technology, NPIXEL explained, much like the Proof-of-Work process used in cryptocurrency. Proof-of-Play involves recording all the in-game items and commodities that a player receives on a blockchain, thus proving and disclosing the items’ randomness of acquisition. The difficulty of obtaining certain items is determined based on in-game demand, and users can search and verify real-time information such as time of acquisition, ownership identification, and random probability.Upcoming launch and exclusive rewardsThe developer is also offering rewards to all 8,000 testers, including a Mount NFT when the game is launched and a chance to win a whitelist spot raffle of Catcha NFT with 1,000 open spots to all testers.NPIXEL will thoroughly review user feedback and opinions collected during the test to further improve the game, after which they plan to officially launch the game through the web-based premier gaming ecosystem, METAPIXEL.METAPIXEL will be developed on the Layer 1 blockchain network Aptos, which is based on NPIXEL’s partnership with Aptos established back in November of last year.

Indonesia Embraces XRP, ADA as Tradable Crypto Assets

Indonesia Embraces XRP, ADA as Tradable Crypto AssetsIn a significant move towards cryptocurrency acceptance, the Indonesian government has taken a momentous step by including a range of digital assets, including XRP and ADA, in a recently published regulatory document.Photo by Nick Agus Arya on Unsplash501 digital assetsThe document, published earlier this month, comprises an extensive list of 501 cryptocurrencies that are eligible for trading within the country. Unsurprisingly, BTC and ETH feature on the list. Other notable cryptocurrencies that have been listed include SOL, LTC, DOT, SAND, and UNI. This development is seen as a positive stride towards wider crypto adoption and holds the potential for broader use of all of these assets. In the case of XRP, it provides it with greater potential to become a viable means of payment within the region in the future, even though current regulation within Indonesia prohibits payments for goods and services in anything other than the rupiah.Defining tradable assetsThe regulatory document, officially titled “Supervisory Body Regulation Commodity Futures Trading Number 4 of 2023,” signifies an amendment to the Trade Controlling Agency Regulations Commodity Futures Number 11 of 2022. Its main objective is to identify the assets that can be traded in the physical market of crypto assets within Indonesia.Colin Wu, a prominent Chinese reporter, shared this significant development on Twitter, sparking interest and discussions within the crypto community. The news has been met with a mix of optimism and caution from Indonesian individuals. One Indonesian YouTuber expressed enthusiasm for the country’s XRP-friendly stance and voiced hope for XRP to eventually attain legal tender status. However, others, like Twitter user Pondok Indah, urged the government to focus on regulatory oversight and taxation rather than direct involvement in the crypto business. This development takes place in the broader context of Indonesia’s evolving crypto landscape. According to a 2022 research report titled “The 2022 Global Crypto Adoption Index: Emerging Markets Lead in Grassroots Adoption ‘’ by Chainalysis, Indonesia ranked at the top among the 20 countries analyzed in terms of peer-to-peer (P2P) exchange trade volume. The country has demonstrated its active participation in the crypto market, with Indodax, the largest Indonesian exchange, adding support for FLOKI, an up-and-coming cryptocurrency, back in April. That said, as we’ve seen in many other jurisdictions, the development of regulation and policy relative to digital assets has not been without its hiccups. Last month, the governor of Bali warned the foreign tourists that flock to the Indonesian island that there would be consequences for those that flouted Indonesian law and used crypto as a form of payment for goods and services.Indonesia’s recognition of the potential benefits of digital assets demonstrates a path forward for other nations to follow. Providing regulatory clarity with regard to digital assets bolsters investor confidence but also opens doors for innovation and financial inclusion. In taking this approach, the Southeast Asian country is setting the stage through which digital assets can contribute to economic growth and technological advancement.
