Bolstering the blockchain ecosystem

Through this new collaboration with Rotonda, Galaxia Metaverse aims to establish a cooperative framework for expanding the blockchain ecosystem by seamlessly integrating their respective blockchain-based Web3 wallets, Galaxia Wallet and Burrito Wallet, into the on-chain environment to secure on-chain liquidity and more users. Burrito Wallet supports 11 major mainnets, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon, as well as over 1,300 cryptocurrencies.

The two companies also plan to leverage Rotonda’s global business network to increase the user base of Galaxia Wallet.

Advancing on a global scale

This comes as part of Galaxia Metaverse’s ongoing efforts to expand its presence on the global stage through collaborations with various partners, including Gopax, MVL, Elysia, Klaytn, and Bithumb. The partnership also marks another significant step in the evolution of the blockchain and metaverse industry, as companies continue to forge alliances both domestically and abroad to create more accessible and integrated virtual ecosystems.

Meanwhile, Rotonda recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with global metaverse platform The Sandbox to support wallet integration within The Sandbox’s platform. The company also teamed up with blockchain gaming platform Oasys in further efforts to expand its global business scope.

Crypto policy and profitability in focus as market faces global crosswinds

Amid the ongoing cryptocurrency market slowdown, a South Korean analyst said a rebound will hinge on effective policy measures and sustainable business models.Photo by Kanchanara on UnsplashAnalyst urges policy and profitabilityAccording to an analysis by iM Securities researcher Yang Hyun-kyung, cited by local outlet Etoday, the current downturn stems from several factors: a liquidity crunch in short-term funding markets, a strengthening U.S. dollar, rising risk aversion, and a prevailing narrative of a cyclical correction. Yang noted that a strong dollar typically drains market momentum, as tighter global liquidity prompts investors to deleverage and reduce exposure to risk assets. He added that growing uncertainty over potential U.S. rate cuts in December has further fueled risk aversion among institutional investors, putting selling pressure on both major cryptocurrencies and altcoins. While the expected resolution of the U.S. government shutdown may create a more favorable environment for a modest technical rebound, Yang argued that the crypto sector still needs to develop profitable business models and gain growth momentum through supportive policy measures. Brokerage frames crypto as diversifierDespite the current headwinds, another Korean brokerage firm released a quarterly report framing digital tokens as an emerging alternative asset class. According to Etoday, Hanwha Investment & Securities CEO Jang Byung-ho wrote in the report that the primary goal of retail investment is to preserve purchasing power. He drew a parallel to the U.S. market in the 1980s, when bond investors would have seen their returns erode had they failed to recognize equities as a viable investment vehicle. Citing that lesson, Jang suggested investors consider digital assets as a new pillar for portfolio diversification. Diverging approaches from global central banksThese evolving viewpoints on crypto come against a complex global macroeconomic backdrop. From one perspective, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) has begun quantitative easing (QE). Otavio Costa, a macro strategist at Crescat Capital, shared a chart on X showing that the value of the PBOC’s balance sheet assets is on track to surpass that of the U.S. Federal Reserve. Costa predicted the Fed would soon follow suit, stressing that investors are underexposed to hard assets. This potential easing contrasts with speculation that the Bank of Japan (BOJ) may raise interest rates next month. One BOJ board member noted at a recent policy meeting that most conditions for a hike have already been met and added that a move is likely once wage negotiations scheduled for spring point to sustained pay growth, as long as the global economy avoids major disruptions. These diverging policy directions have mixed implications for the crypto market. Typically, dovish measures like QE are seen as supportive, as increased liquidity tends to boost risk appetite. Rate hikes, by contrast, withdraw liquidity from the system, limiting the upside for risk assets like digital tokens. As economic conditions evolve and the industry adapts, investors will be watching closely to see how these shifts shape the market’s next moves.

Amber Group calls for crypto project transparency & accountability

At the end of last month, social derivatives trading platform ZKX, a protocol that runs on the Ethereum-centric Starknet layer-2 network, shut down blindsiding the project’s stakeholders. That event has led to Singapore-headquartered digital assets firm Amber Group speaking out, calling for cryptocurrency projects to be more accountable and transparent going forward. Not economically viableNews of the project shutdown emerged when ZKX founder Eduard Jubany Tur took to X on July 30 to outline the discontinuation of the protocol. Tur claimed that the project was “unable to find an economically viable path for the protocol.” In a long-form post, the ZKX founder outlined that user engagement had been minimal, resulting in disappointing trading volumes. By extension, Tur claimed that revenues didn’t come anywhere close to covering cloud server expenses. “The market is undervaluing the work done and infrastructure built by appchains and dApps coming from ecosystems like ours,” Tur added. Pseudonymous blockchain sleuth ZachXBT had a different take on the matter, claiming that the shutdown represented a rug pull. Amber Group chimed in on the subject on X on Aug. 3. Amber suggested that it wouldn’t break any contractual non-disclosure obligations it had with regard to ZKX but that aside, the firm took the opportunity to share its perspective more broadly in an effort to promote transparency.Photo by Markus Spiske on PexelsAmber Group criticismAmber Group criticized the ZKX team on the basis of a lack of transparency. It stated: “The last update we received was on July 30, when the project announced the cessation of operations. This decision was made without prior communication, highlighting the importance of transparency in our industry.” Staying with that theme, it claimed that clear communication and transparency are essential for fostering trust and collaboration within the crypto community, and that such principles would guide future projects. Amber Group had acted as a market maker relative to the ZKX project. It borrowed and purchased ZKX tokens in support of the launch of the token and in an effort to support token liquidity post-launch. It had secured two million ZKX tokens from the open market, with its overall holding totaling three million ZKX tokens. Project investor HashKey Capital also took to the X social media platform on the subject. Like Amber Group it too criticized the ZKX project for its lack of accountability and transparency. It described the project’s reluctance to communicate as “disappointing,” while it asserted that Tur’s handling of the situation had been “regrettable.” Ye Su, founding partner at ArkStream Capital, expressed a similar complaint, stating on X that “when ZKX shut down, as investors, we got zero heads-up.” He also singled out Tur, claiming that “Edward took the money from early supporters without any communication, showing no moral standards and losing his right to future entrepreneurship in the industry.”
