$500 million valuation

The funding round, led by Polychain Capital and Shanghai-headquartered Qiming Venture Partners, has resulted in a valuation of $500 million for p0x Labs, according to a blog post published by the project on Wednesday. This equity-based investment demonstrates a growing interest in not only the project’s token but also the team behind it.

Manta Network aims to leverage zero-knowledge (ZK) technology to address the scalability challenges and privacy concerns prevalent on the Ethereum network. By harnessing zero-knowledge proofs, Manta enables users to verify the authenticity of information without disclosing the underlying data.

This approach provides individuals with complete control over their identities while mitigating the risks of surveillance. Consequently, Manta Network is seeking to attract users who have reservations about utilizing DeFi protocols due to the transparent nature of transactions on public blockchain networks.

At the recent EthCC event held in Paris, the project unveiled the testnet for its Layer 2 network, known as Manta Pacific. This testnet operates in an environment with low gas fees, fostering cost-effective transactions for users. Manta Pacific is designed to complement the existing Layer 1 solution, Manta Atlantic, which focuses on achieving compliant on-chain privacy.

VC support

Luke Pearson, an investor at Polychain Capital, expressed his enthusiasm for Manta Network’s expansion within the Ethereum ecosystem and confirmed Polychain’s continued support through this Series A funding round. Meanwhile, Yi Tang, Principal at Qiming Venture Partners, believes that their contribution will not only help Manta Network penetrate the Asian market but also attract the attention of Web2 brands.

With the additional funding, p0x Labs aims to establish a global presence for Manta Network. Kenny Li, a core contributor at Manta Network, emphasized the significance of partnering with one of China’s largest investors to gain a stronger foothold in Asia, particularly China. The team is enthusiastic about the opportunities this collaboration will bring.

Industry partnerships

Manta Network has already witnessed substantial demand for its offerings, with partnerships with projects such as Arbitrum and Linea resulting in the creation of over 300,000 zero-knowledge soulbound tokens. These tokens enable the verification of on-chain identities without compromising data confidentiality. Additionally, the native Manta Wallet has garnered more than 200,000 installations, and innovative features like email-based notifications have contributed to a collective user base exceeding 1.5 million users.

Looking ahead, the newly launched testnet with its plug-and-play functionality is expected to streamline the development process for Manta Network’s ecosystem. Developers will be able to allocate their time and resources more efficiently toward building their core products, driving innovation within the zero-knowledge space.

The successful funding round and the launch of the Layer 2 testnet mark significant milestones for Manta Network and p0x Labs. With continued support from prominent investors, Manta Network appears to be setting itself up to unlock the true potential of zero-knowledge technology and drive adoption across various industries.

OKX Wallet to Support BRC-20 Tokens and Bitcoin Ordinals

OKX Wallet to Support BRC-20 Tokens and Bitcoin OrdinalsIn a press release published on Tuesday, Seychelles-based cryptocurrency spot and derivatives exchange OKX announced that it is in the process of enabling an Ordinals marketplace on the OKX Wallet, which will enable customers to mint and trade BRC-20 tokens.Photo by Karolina Grabowska on PexelsRising BRC-20 market capThe move will also enable users to inscribe non-fungible token (NFT)-based digital content on the Bitcoin blockchain by way of ordinal inscriptions. The market capitalization of BRC-20 tokens has been rising exponentially over the course of the past few weeks despite only being in existence since March.BRC-20 is an experimental token standard which was created by an anonymous developer with the handle “Domo” and username ‘@domodata’ on Twitter. A token standard governs how and where a cryptocurrency can be used. The approach has been pioneered by developers on the Ethereum blockchain who created the ERC-20 standard a number of years ago, relative to the Ethereum network.OKX has clearly identified a rising trend and wants to be an early adopter in benefiting from it. In their short existence, BRC-20 tokens have mainly implicated meme tokens but as more experimentation follows, use cases that rely on the token standard are likely to expand.Binance has signaled a similar intent, having stated last week that before the month is out, Bitcoin Ordinals will be added to its NFT marketplace. Ordinals preceded the development of the BRC-20 standard by a couple of months, with over five million of the inscriptions having been generated since they emerged. It’s believed that the minting of those Ordinals has generated fees to the value of around 1,000 BTC (or $27 million as per the BTC/USD price at the time of publication).Growing painsWhile the emergence of the BRC-20 standard and Bitcoin Ordinals brings quite a lot of excitement to a bitcoin blockchain that many found to be boring and lacking diversity in terms of potential use cases, it’s not been without its problems. On the one hand, these tokens and inscriptions make use of unused block space on the network. They also offer a solution to the longer term issue of a reduction in fees. The bitcoin blockchain in-built subsidy to miners is halved every four years, meaning that there will be a need for fees to sustain the incentive to miners to continue to secure the network. The downside to these recent developments is that the new tokens are going beyond using up unused block space. Instead, they’ve been responsible for driving Bitcoin transaction fees up to uncomfortable levels over the course of the past two weeks. It’s still early days in terms of this development, so there is every hope that developers can find solutions to the issue.Last week, Singapore-based project OmniBOLT announced that it will support BRC-20 tokens on Lightning Network. Taking some of this activity away from the bitcoin mainnet will serve to dampen excessive transaction costs and transaction delays due to an excessively long queue of transactions within the bitcoin mempool. The recent transaction cost difficulty relative to Bitcoin has prompted Binance to respond by stating its intention to add support for Lightning Network transactions in the not too distant future. OKX already supports Lightning transactions but not from within its wallet. As part of this announcement, the company stated that Lightning support will be coming to its wallet in the near future.

Hong Kong's spot Bitcoin ETFs experience first daily outflows

On Monday, Hong Kong's spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) marked their first cumulative daily Bitcoin outflows, with the sole occurrence arising from China Asset Management's (ChinaAMC) ETF. ChinaAMC's spot Bitcoin ETF witnessed an outflow of 75.36 Bitcoin, while the other two ETFs reported zero inflows. This development comes after these ETFs debuted on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on April 30.Photo by Kanchanara on UnsplashInsights into daily trading dynamics and metricsOn their inaugural trading day, the three funds garnered an inflow of 3,910 BTC, as per data from SoSo Value. However, it's important to note that shares acquired through in-kind subscriptions of physical Bitcoin are not counted as U.S. dollar-based cash flows in SoSo Value's daily net inflow statistics. Instead, SoSo Value employs the Bitcoin-inflow metric, measuring the actual flow of Bitcoin into or out of all ETFs on a given trading day. As of Monday, the combined holdings of the three ETFs stood at approximately 4,150 Bitcoin, with total net assets reaching $266.8 million from $247.7 million on the debut day, according to SoSo Value data. Farside Investors' data corroborated similar findings, indicating an outflow of $4.9 million from ChinaAMC's spot Bitcoin ETF on Monday, while the other two ETFs saw no inflows. Trading volume and market activityDespite the outflows, the total trading volume for the three ETFs surged to $8.6 million on Monday, up from $8.01 million the previous Friday, according to SoSo Value data. Meanwhile, in contrast, spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States witnessed a net inflow of $217.06 million on the same day, with Grayscale's GBTC fund registering its second consecutive daily net inflow.
