Cryptotax secures pre-series A funding from Hashed

Cryptotax, a South Korean cryptocurrency tax and accounting platform run by accounting firm Xxsoft, has secured an investment from Asian blockchain investment firm Hashed during its pre-series A funding round. This comes just 16 months after the company secured seed funding.

Empowering financial clarity

Cryptotax is a platform that offers comprehensive virtual asset tax accounting services that allow both individual and corporate clients to monitor their virtual assets, view receipts of their transactions and calculate and report their virtual asset tax records. To do so, it collects and analyzes transaction history and asset details from crypto exchange accounts and digital wallets that users can register on their Cryptotax accounts.

Individual investors can also monitor their assets and view their net profits, as well as receive a preview of the amount of tax they would actually have to pay later on based on those profits.

On the other hand, corporate clients that issue or own virtual assets can get access to special services through Cryptotax’s solution as a service (Saas) dubbed Cryptotax Enterprise. By using this service, businesses, investment management firms and virtual asset issuers can benefit from automated tax processing and directly receive accounting documents.

High-profile sports sponsorships driving Crypto.com user base expansion

Crypto.com, the Singapore-headquartered cryptocurrency exchange platform, has outlined that it has seen significant growth thanks to high-profile sports sponsorship and advertising. Reaping the rewardsThe company has established advertising partnerships with Formula 1 (F1) motor racing and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). These lucrative sponsorship deals have propelled the exchange into the spotlight of two massive fan bases, contributing to its expansion. In an interview with Cointelegraph last week, Eric Anziani, president and chief operating officer of Crypto.com, discussed the company's successful advertising campaigns with F1 and the UFC, as well as its naming rights deal for the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. In 2021, what was then the Staples Center was renamed to the Crypto.com Arena in a $700 million naming rights deal. Anziani expressed gratitude for these partnerships, emphasizing the importance of staying top of mind for users in the competitive cryptocurrency market.  That same year, the company signed a multi-year partnership deal with leading French football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), rolling out various PSG-related marketing activities since then.Photo by Austin Loveing on UnsplashBrand recognition benefitsMarket surveys conducted by Crypto.com indicate a high level of global awareness and brand recognition among retail cryptocurrency users. The exchange's logo prominently displayed during F1 races and UFC events has helped it reach millions of fans worldwide. ESPN reports an average of 1.11 million viewers per race for the 2023 F1 season in the United States alone, with global viewership exceeding one billion over the entire race calendar. Similarly, the UFC boasts a global audience, with some of its biggest fights attracting millions of pay-per-view viewers. Anziani highlighted the effectiveness of these partnerships in bringing people into the cryptocurrency space.  User base approaching 100 millionThese partnerships have significantly contributed to Crypto.com's growing user base, which is approaching 100 million users in 2024, up from an estimated 80 million in the previous year. Anziani discussed the factors that drive users' choice of exchange platforms, emphasizing the importance of compliance, security, convenient access to cryptocurrency and competitive fees. He noted that different users prioritize different aspects based on their trading preferences and requirements. The firm is not alone in pursuing high-profile sports sponsorship deals. Rival platform OKX has an ongoing sponsorship deal in place with Manchester City Football Club in the English Premier League (EPL). It also has doubled down recently on the sponsorship of F1 racing team McLaren. Other notable partnerships include crypto gambling platform Stake.com’s sponsorship of Sauber F1, crypto exchange platform Kraken’s deal with Williams F1 and BingX’s sleeve sponsorship agreement with Chelsea football club in the EPL. High-profile marketing initiatives are alive and well, although in a much more sober way than in 2022 when six crypto companies featured in Super Bowl advertising in the United States. Kraken’s chief marketing officer, Mayur Gupta, recently stated that the Super Bowl is no longer an effective means of promotion for crypto companies.

According to a statement released by Crypto.com, advanced notice was provided to the platform’s institutional users regarding the suspension of the service.However, it is important to note that Crypto.com’s retail mobile application and platform will continue to operate normally in the US. “We recently made a business decision to suspend the institutional offering of the Crypto.com exchange in the US as of 11:59 pm EDT June 21, 2023, due to limited demand from institutions in the US in the current market landscape. Impacted institutional users were given advance notice to support a smooth transition,” the statement clarified.Despite the cessation of institutional services, American retail users can still access CFTC-regulated cryptocurrency derivatives trading offered by Crypto.com. Additionally, the UpDown Options feature remains available, enabling users to open long or short trading positions on the future movements of various cryptocurrencies.Crypto.com has expressed openness to the possibility of relaunching its institutional exchange in the United States in the future, indicating that the suspension is not necessarily permanent.CoinRoute integrationIn more positive news, on Thursday the firm announced that it had entered into a collaboration with smart order routing and trade execution service provider CoinRoute to integrate its service with the platform. Crypto.com Managing Director, Giuseppe Giuliani, said that “the integration aligns perfectly with our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to cryptocurrency by providing institutional-grade solutions that enhance the liquidity environment for cryptocurrencies.”CoinRoute’s algorithmic crypto trading technology is already live on the Crypto.com platform.While Crypto.com adjusts its offerings in the US market, it recently received a major payment institution (MPI) license for digital payment token (DPT) services from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). This regulatory approval allows Crypto.com to continue providing its services in Singapore.Further evidence that the exchange business continues to find ways to propel itself forward includes its recent move to update its service offering to include the use of artificial intelligence-based technology. Additionally, last month it set out plans to list the euro as a trading option, leveraging the liquidity of the European currency while allowing it to be traded against leading digital assets such as bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT.The month of June 2023 has been a turbulent one for cryptocurrency exchanges operating in the United States. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has initiated legal proceedings against both Binance.US and Coinbase, accusing them of various securities laws violations.
