Digital products for everyone

The company revealed plans to add more than 20 million digital products from over 150 brands including special app memberships, in-game items that are directly verified by game developers, and digital tickets to entertainment performances. There will also be limited-edition products like LINE stamps, digital art and special video playback rights.

Products from popular Japanese brands such as Japan Airlines and CryptoNinja Partners – a 22,222-piece NFT collection – will be available on the service during this month as part of a merging with Line NFT, a comprehensive marketplace for NFTs that has been operating in Japan for a while.

By March, the company will also sell app membership products from more than 20 promising startups, including content community-based social media platform SuperPlat, stock investment platform Quantrack, AI-based music platform inDJ and K-pop fandom community service FL DA.

Exclusive membership

In particular, DOSI also has a special membership called “DOSI Citizen,” which offers points called DON that can be earned by checking app attendance, purchasing products and playing mini-games. DON can be traded for Citizen Items or used to participate in events for a chance to win crypto rewards.

Users can easily sign up and log in using their social media accounts and purchase digital products with simple payment methods such as Line Pay, Naver Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payments can also be made with the digital assets Finsia (FNSA) and Ethereum (ETH).

Investment boost

Last year, LINE NEXT made headlines for securing the largest investment made in the Asian Web3 industry worth $140 million from a consortium led by Seoul-based private equity firm Crescendo Equity Partners. At the time, the company had divulged that it would use part of the funds to launch DOSI.

SBI and TradeFinex establish 'SBI XDC Network APAC'

Japanese financial services company SBI Holdings has successfully established "SBI XDC Network APAC" in Japan, following through on an intended joint venture with TradeFinex, the driving force behind the XDC Network.Photo by William Warby on UnsplashJV company formationAt the end of September, the two companies outlined the starting point of an intended collaboration. Only three months later, SBI has come back with an update, a press release published on Dec. 27, to detail the progress that has been made thus far. According to that document, the companies established joint venture corporate entity SBI XDC Network APAC Co. Ltd. on Dec. 18. Among the directors of the new company is the President of BITPoint Japan, a wholly owned subsidiary crypto exchange business of SBI. Majority stakeholderSBI will be the majority stakeholder in the venture, holding 60% of the company’s shares while Dubai-based TradeFinex will be the minor partner, with a 40% shareholding. The press release outlines that the stakeholders will “work to expand the use case using the blockchain technology of the XDC Network in global economic activities centered on trade finance and cross-border payments, not just the handling of tokens.” With that, this enterprise-focused blockchain initiative aims to elevate the efficiency of trade finance. Going forward, it endeavors to broaden the applications of XDC Network's blockchain technology in global economic activities, with the emphasis remaining on trade finance and cross-border payments. The XDC Network, inaugurated in 2017, is a community-driven platform tailored explicitly for trade finance and payments. It introduces a smart contract system that streamlines global trade operations by tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs) such as bonds, trade assets and trade documents. Operating on a high-speed, secure and cost-effective blockchain, XDC Network aspires to transform the landscape of trade finance. SBI Group has been actively involved in various services related to the XDC Network, including being the first exchange in Japan to handle XDC tokens. This was made possible through a partnership with SBI VC Trade, a company within the SBI Group specializing in crypto asset exchange services. Corda platform proof of conceptLogo design has been completed for the new entity, while a website has also been launched. Not wasting any time, the new company has already initiated a proof-of-concept (PoC) experiment. The experiment involves connecting the XDC Network with the Corda platform from SBI R3 Japan and the Corda Bridge from IMPEL GLOBAL. The PoC experiment revolves around conducting fiat payments generated by business-to-business transactions in XDC via Corda and the Corda Bridge. Leveraging a hybrid blockchain with both private and public characteristics, the objective is to attempt to offer a seamless one-stop service that settles both private and public aspects simultaneously. The company claims that this approach achieves an efficient and smooth payment method for cross-border transactions, including international trade, outshining conventional fiat currency transactions.

India’s NPCI Looks to Recruit Blockchain Talent

India’s NPCI Looks to Recruit Blockchain TalentIndia’s National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), a collaborative initiative led by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in partnership with 247 Indian financial services companies, is actively seeking an experienced blockchain technologist to spearhead efforts in exploring the potential applications of blockchain technology within contemporary payment systems. The NPCI, responsible for operating India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), a domestically developed instant payment system, plays a pivotal role in facilitating inter-bank peer-to-peer and person-to-merchant transactions across the country. The organization has recently posted a job listing for a Head of Blockchain on LinkedIn, demonstrating its interest in harnessing the power of blockchain technology.Photo by Siddharth K Rao on UnsplashIdentifying blockchain use casesThe ideal candidate for this critical role should be a seasoned technologist with a minimum of six years of hands-on experience in the development and implementation of blockchain solutions. Their primary responsibility will be to identify and evaluate potential use cases for blockchain-driven solutions within the payments ecosystem.Additionally, the senior leadership position demands a profound technical grasp of various blockchain platforms and a track record of involvement in at least two pilot blockchain projects.UPI has been a remarkable success in bolstering India’s payment infrastructure, so much so that other countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), France, Nepal, and the UK have expressed interest in adopting the UPI payment system to varying degrees.Potential blockchain integrationDespite UPI's runaway success, it’s likely that the NCPI foresees more change coming down the tracks with a need to respond appropriately. Recently, Indian billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani suggested that his company, multinational conglomerate Reliance Industries (RIL), would delve further into the use of blockchain technology, particularly where central bank digital currency (CBDC) is concerned.V Subramanian, Managing Director of one of Ambani’s companies, Reliance Retail, stated that India’s digital rupee CBDC would eventually outperform UPI. Incorporating blockchain elements into UPI could potentially introduce blockchain technology to millions of users, instantly validating its transformative capabilities. The NPCI’s job posting for a blockchain leader has already garnered significant attention, with over 600 applicants expressing their interest at the time of publication. It is anticipated that the NPCI’s recruitment drive for blockchain expertise will expand in the near future as promising blockchain use cases are uncovered and developed. The NPCI has been paying attention to the development of blockchain technology over a number of years already. In 2020, it launched a project to build a blockchain-based payments platform called Vajra, albeit that it looked to implement a permissioned blockchain model to ensure that only authorized parties could access the network. Truly decentralized networks can’t control who chooses to use such networks. The blockchain is designed such that the NPCI acts as a Clearing House Node, with overall admin rights over the network. Its Notary Node level features Aadhaar authentication, with a view to securing the network. Participant Nodes feature authorized banks and payment services providers, who have the requisite permissions to read and write transactions on the blockchain.
