China's National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center (CVERC) has suggested in a report that the U.S. government may be linked to the 2020 hack of the LuBian Bitcoin mining pool, CoinDesk reported. The agency noted that 127,000 BTC stolen in the hack remained dormant for four years before recently being moved to a new wallet, which Arkham later identified as belonging to the U.S. government. CVERC emphasized that its analysis of the hacking methods uncovered multiple signs of government-level technological involvement. It raised the possibility that the U.S. government's plan may have been to support the hackers in stealing the funds and then confiscate them. This accusation follows a recent announcement from the U.S. government that it had indicted Chen Zhi, chairman of the Prince Group and the alleged operator of LuBian, and had seized and is currently holding 127,271 BTC.
