Fashion’s future unveiled

Under the theme of “Dramatic Core,” this year’s Preview in Seoul is the largest to date with 746 booths from 14 countries participating. Participants are responsible for showcasing materials, textiles, and machinery that represent a future of elevated value.

In particular, the digital fashion zone features prominent tech companies from both Korea and abroad and showcases the future of the textile fashion industry’s expansion into the metaverse. Visitors can experience firsthand fashion in the metaverse through artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) technologies.

Envisioning fashion in the metaverse

To shed light on the future of digital fashion commerce, Bithumb META created a setup where visitors can dive into Naemo World to virtually replicate real-world environments and items — such as clothing made of high-quality garments — through digital twin technology.

Attendees can customize their avatars and explore the brand halls of fashion brand Hazzys and athletic gear brand HEAD in Naemo World. They will also be led through a realistic shopping experience within the metaverse — this includes the entire process, from trying on clothing pieces featured in the brands’ 2023 fall/winter season collections to ordering and purchasing products and getting them delivered in the real world.

“At this year’s Preview in Seoul, Bithumb META unveiled some of the blueprints for the future of Naemo World’s integration with real-world products and services,” said Bithumb META CEO Cho Hyun-sik.

He added that the company would continue to expand and develop Naemo World’s ecosystem to be used for various purposes.

Bithumb META also contributed to the planning and development of an ultra-realistic, three-dimensional showroom using Unreal Engine 5, a real-time 3D creation tool developed by Epic Games.

Preview in Seoul 2023 is currently being held at Starfield COEX Mall in southern Seoul until Friday.

Blockchain Meat Marketplace MOOxMOO Achieves $30m in Distribution Volume

Blockchain Meat Marketplace MOOxMOO Achieves $30m in Distribution VolumeMOOxMOO, the blockchain-based meat marketplace platform operated by South Korea’s Life In Commerce, has surpassed a cumulative distribution volume of KRW 40 billion (approximately $30 million) since its launch in February of last year.Photo by Kyle Mackie on UnsplashRevolutionizing the meat industryLife In Commerce attributed this significant achievement to the use of blockchain technology on the platform. By leveraging smart contract and soulbound token (SBT) technology, MOOxMOO provides a supply and transactional platform that streamlines business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions among participants of local meat supply chains, volume retailers, and retail customers. The platform essentially embeds wholesale and retail transaction information into smart contracts, which are impossible to tamper with once minted into immutable and non-transferrable SBTs.This makes MOOxMOO a transparent and decentralized distribution platform that offers various benefits like increased liquidity, faster transaction settlement times, and boosted security. It also addresses the issue of price deviations caused by market practices. In addition, MOOxMOO has its own utility token, MOOX, that can be used for deposits and transactions. The platform’s application of blockchain technology has revolutionized the meat distribution industry by breaking away from common problems such as unfair pricing. As a result, it has not only enhanced price competitiveness but also built a reputation for trustworthiness among consumers.Future plansLife In Commerce has ambitious plans to enhance the platform further. They are currently developing a new B2B platform that will utilize the weight of transaction credits using SBT in the trade of raw materials required for meat processing and distribution. This will offer additional benefits to suppliers and buyers.

Central Asian republics work towards crypto bank & crypto hub development

News emanating from the Central Asian republics of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in recent days points to further rollout and development of cryptocurrency sector infrastructure. A press release published on March 26 outlined that Kyrgyzstan is working on various initiatives in order to copper-fasten its position as a regional crypto hub. Those efforts include the advancement of digital asset regulation, enabling the launch of licensed crypto platforms and ongoing trials of legal frameworks relative to crypto. Photo by Steve Johnson on UnsplashA7A5 stablecoinOne initiative that may aid in the development of the digital assets sector in Kyrgyzstan is the rollout of the A7A5 stablecoin. A7A5 is pegged to the Russian ruble, with the token having been issued by Kyrgyz company Old Vector. The product was first launched in February, with the intention for it to be used on the A7 cross-border payment platform of Russian state-owned bank Promsvyazbank. Garantex, a Russian crypto exchange which had been sanctioned by U.S. and European authorities and was recently shut down, announced on Feb. 19 the listing of the A7A5 stablecoin. The stablecoin’s backers claim that it was issued “in complete accordance with the new national legislation - under the control of regulatory authorities and directed to an officially registered, regulated broker.” The stablecoin is being promoted on the basis of an annual yield of up to 20%, which has been established due to its link to the refinancing rate of the central bank of the Russian Federation. Kazakhstan crypto bank proposalMeanwhile, lawmakers in Central Asian neighbor Kazakhstan have proposed the creation of a national crypto bank. According to The Times of Central Asia, an English-language daily newspaper, Azat Peruashev, leader of the Ak Zhol political party within Kazakhstan’s lower house of parliament, put forward the proposal, which would implicate the involvement of the National Bank of Kazakhstan and a number of the country’s commercial banks. Peruashev addressed the proposal to Kazakhstani Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. However, the Central Asian country may have some fundamental issues to address before a crypto bank can become a reality. Currently, Kazakhstan has yet to establish a legal framework for the use of digital assets.  Last year, the authorities shut down 36 cryptocurrency exchanges which were deemed to have been operating illegally. In total, 3,500 illegal crypto exchanges have been shut down in Kazakhstan. Leading American crypto exchange business Coinbase faced a setback in the Central Asian country in November 2023 when the government cut access to its website within the country. While these crypto businesses have struggled to operate in Kazakhstan, Binance Kazakhstan successfully obtained a trading license from the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) in September of last year. Earlier this month, the company added options trading and futures copy trading to the platform. Blockchain industry pioneer Kyle Chasse took to X to report on this most recent development. He suggested that given that 90% of crypto activity in Kazakhstan is off the books, the authorities are interested in launching a crypto bank so as to bring it all under their control.

Phemex introduces Lending Protocol and Pulse Season 3

Stella Chan, the chief operating officer of Phemex, a crypto derivatives exchange with a presence in Turkey and Singapore, recently provided details of the company’s unveiling of its Lending Protocol and SocialFi initiative Pulse Season 3. In an interview with Cointelegraph, Chan outlined that since the founding of the firm in 2019, the company has been evolving and working towards carving out a niche for itself in the industry. The executive confirmed that the exchange business has reached a point where daily trading volume now exceeds $2 billion across more than 300 trading pairs. Pulse Season 3Chan is also the co-founder of Phemex’s Pulse, a social trading platform that rewards users while attempting to foster a community spirit within the crypto sphere. As part of Phemex events held at Token 2024 in Dubai last week, the company announced Pulse Season 3, a SocialFi mechanism to incentivize community engagement. The initiative introduces casting and tipping features. Casting is a means through which community members can post up content. Meanwhile, tipping serves as a method through which other community members can acknowledge and reward high-quality community member contributions. Through this initiative Phemex is hoping to deliver an enhanced experience where trading seamlessly intersects with trending topics and insightful content.Photo by Shubham Dhage on UnsplashPhemex Lending ProtocolAlongside Pulse Season 3, the company has also launched the Phemex Lending Protocol, a feature allowing users to borrow crypto at competitive rates while earning interest. As part of that offering, all loans are safeguarded through the collateralization of the user’s digital assets. With an initial liquidity allocation of $22 million, this protocol has been established with an eye towards empowering traders to amplify their capital without selling their assets, while aligning in a more general sense with the user’s overall trading needs. Phemex is attempting to spearhead the transition towards greater user autonomy without compromising security. The Phemex Lending Protocol is central to that effort, offering users competitive borrowing rates and opportunities for passive income generation.  Standing testament to that, the platform offers interest rates on USDT starting at 3.57%. For those that hold vePT, the wrapped version of the platform's native Phemex token (PT), an additional 30% discount on borrowing rates is being offered. vePT is destined to act as a token which confers voting authority in the not too distant future, relative to Phemex’s governing decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). The platform is further enabling capital efficiency from the service user’s perspective by applying very little restriction so that funds can be withdrawn and redeployed at will, with minimum delay. Coming off the back of these announcements during Token 2024, the company appears to be following through on that momentum. Taking to the X social media platform on April 25, Chan outlined details of a plethora of user experience (UX) upgrades relative to its Pulse offering. Future plansLooking ahead, Phemex envisages the offering of a broader range of products tailored to user needs. Plans for an automated market maker (AMM) protocol aim to provide users with passive earning opportunities by contributing to liquidity. Additionally, Phemex is exploring the development of an on-chain credit scoring mechanism, leveraging its soulbound digital identity token to enhance access to decentralized finance (DeFi).
