Enhancing user experience

In an effort to elevate user experience and expand trading options, Bitget Wallet is committing to extensive product research, development initiatives and increased investments. The company plans on offering a wide array of services tailored to the Bitcoin ecosystem.

This includes robust support for BTC asset management, cross-chain swaps, on-ramping for externally owned account (EOA)-based wallets, multi-party computation (MPC) wallets, Taproot compatibility and streamlined asset transfers for both BRC-20 tokens and NFTs. In October, Bitget announced that it was taking the route of enhanced security by embarking on integrating MPC.

Integrated dApp browser

The platform also provides users with insights into macro and micro market trends through Bitget Swap, enabling interaction with popular projects via its dApp browser.

Bitget Wallet’s move has already garnered support from several Bitcoin ecosystem projects, with integrations on official websites such as Unisat, ALEX Lab, LifeRestart and Bitmap Explorer. The integrated dApp browser ensures convenient user access to these projects, fostering increased engagement and accessibility.

Looking forward, Bitget Wallet aims to capitalize on the medium to long-term market prospects within the Bitcoin ecosystem. The company is directing its efforts towards enhancing both technological infrastructure and product features, with a specific focus on critical areas such as Lightning Network, Nostr, Taproot Assets, BRC-20 and ARC-20 inscriptions.

Facilitating cross-chain transactions

An important facet of Bitget Wallet’s approach involves supporting multiple address formats, particularly within the Lightning Network. By doing so, the platform aims to improve asset transfer efficiency and introduce asset swaps between the Bitcoin mainnet and the Lightning Network. This move is geared towards facilitating cross-chain transactions between BTC and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) assets on Bitget Swap, providing users with increased opportunities for portfolio diversification.

Alvin Kan, the Chief Operating Officer of Bitget Wallet, underscored the significance of Bitcoin as the foundational cornerstone of the crypto industry. He emphasized the platform’s commitment to becoming a key player in the growing Bitcoin ecosystem, providing users with robust and seamless ways to manage and grow their assets.

Formerly known as BitKeep, Bitget Wallet stands as Asia’s largest all-in-one Web3 trading wallet, boasting a five-year legacy and over 12 million users worldwide. On a global basis, the non-custodial wallet recently ranked fourth overall in terms of the number of wallet downloads.

Bitget acquired the Singaporean startup wallet project in June. Its addition helped the broader Bitget platform to achieve the milestone of 20 million users. The product was rebranded as Bitget Wallet shortly afterwards.

The company is keen to support other blockchain networks and ecosystems also. Earlier this month, the company announced an investment into Morph, a layer-2 blockchain that uses zero knowledge roll-up technology in an effort to focus on enhanced consumer experience.

Last week, the platform added support for ZKFair, a zero knowledge layer-2 network which is based on the Polygon CDK.

Subreddit Token Price Slide Following Surge

Subreddit Token Price Slide Following SurgeReddit’s subreddit community tokens, Moon and Brick, having experienced a remarkable surge in prices last week fueled by a significant increase in trading volume, have taken a downward trajectory, plummeting in price.Photo by Mike Petrucci on UnsplashCrypto.com token listingThe Moon token, associated with Reddit’s r/CryptoCurrency community boasting over 6.5 million members, shot up from approximately $0.09 to nearly $0.58 on July 19, just after Singapore trading platform Crypto.com listed the token.Concurrently, trading volume spiked to around $3 million on Wednesday, marking an impressive boost.Similarly, the Fortnite subreddit community token, Brick, which Crypto.com distributes as a reward to contributors of r/Fortnite, also witnessed a substantial price surge. The token’s value surged from $0.01 on July 17 to approximately $0.10 on July 19, according to data from CoinGecko.Surge acknowledgedIn response to the sudden price surges, Crypto.com released a note early on Monday, acknowledging the surge both tokens had experienced recently. However, in a swift turn of events, both tokens experienced a significant downturn in the past 24 hours, with their prices plummeting by over 20%.As of midday (ET) on Monday, Moon was trading at $0.33, while Brick was valued just under $0.05, as reported by CoinGecko data. Moreover, trading volumes for both tokens have significantly contracted during this period of volatility. Moon’s volume shrank from over $1 million on July 23 to approximately $200,000 on Monday. On the other hand, Brick’s volume saw an even more drastic decrease, falling from approximately $210,000 on July 23 to a mere $26,000 on Monday.Terms of service changeMarket analysts speculate that the recent change in Reddit’s Terms of Service might have been the catalyst for the initial price increases. Reddit’s alteration of its Terms of Service on July 16 to permit users to trade community tokens and avatars potentially triggered the surge in token prices. It appears that Web2 centralized virtual goods such as coins and awards are making way for tradable Web3 community points.Speculating on the token price surge, Bobby Ong, the Co-Founder and COO of Malaysia-headquartered cryptocurrency data aggregator CoinGecko, wrote via Twitter last week: “Both tokens increased at the speculation of the changes coming at Reddit. No one knows exactly what is happening but Reddit deprecating Web2 Coins & Awards while allowing trading of their Web3 CPs could be something to monitor in the coming months.”Despite the recent downturn, the overall crypto space remains highly dynamic and unpredictable. Events such as the listing of tokens on prominent trading platforms can cause rapid price fluctuations. As always, that scenario makes it essential for investors to approach these assets with caution. While Moon and Brick may have encountered a sharp decline, the cryptocurrency market, in general, has proven its resilience and ability to rebound with Bitcoin currently holding a unit price of $29,125. As the market continues to evolve and gain wider acceptance, investors will need to continue to exercise caution and consider the volatility inherent in digital assets.

Bybit Gets Outline Approval to Operate in Kazakhstan

Bybit Gets Outline Approval to Operate in KazakhstanBybit, the cryptocurrency spot and derivatives trading platform, is expanding its operations with a recent “in-principle” approval from the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) in Kazakhstan. This approval allows Bybit to operate as a digital asset trading facility and custody services provider at the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC).Photo by Engin Akyurt on PexelsExpanding area of operationsBen Zhou, the co-founder and CEO of Bybit, expressed his belief in the promising potential of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region for the growth of the crypto industry. He also emphasized Bybit’s commitment to complying with local regulations, following the recent scrutiny the company faced in Japan for operating without proper registration. To obtain permanent authorization to serve the local market, Bybit must fulfill certain pre-conditions specified in the in-principle approval and complete the application process. In April, it emerged that the company had established its global headquarters in Dubai, where it has already secured “in-principle” approval to operate a virtual assets business. Bybit has also been active in Hong Kong and is in the process of obtaining a license to trade in the Chinese autonomous territory.Debit card and lending servicesAs well as a geographical expansion, in recent months Bybit has also been expanding its service offering. On May 2, the exchange announced the introduction of crypto lending services for its users. This addition allows users to lend and borrow cryptocurrencies through the Bybit platform, providing them with more opportunities to maximize their holdings.Earlier this year, Bybit collaborated with Mastercard to launch a new debit card tailored for cryptocurrency payments. This partnership aimed to bridge the gap between traditional financial systems and the growing crypto ecosystem, allowing users to spend their cryptocurrencies seamlessly in everyday transactions.Kazakhstan’s crypto strategyKazakhstan got off to a difficult start with crypto. Once crypto miners were banished from China, many of them moved operations to Kazakhstan, putting pressure on the local power grid. The local administration has since gotten to grips with the industry, restricting crypto miners’ access to cheap electricity. Bybit’s decision to offer services in Kazakhstan aligns with the country’s current efforts to position itself as a regional hub for crypto, mining, and blockchain. In February, local officials implemented a mandate that requires 75% of revenue generated from crypto mining to be sold through a crypto exchange, with the aim of combating tax evasion.CBDC developmentFurthermore, Kazakhstan has been actively exploring the development of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) and is currently in the pilot phase of its implementation. The introduction of a CBDC can potentially revolutionize the country’s financial landscape, offering faster and more efficient digital transactions while maintaining regulatory oversight.Bybit’s pre-approval in Kazakhstan signifies the company’s strategic expansion into a region with a favorable regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies. As the crypto industry continues to evolve, partnerships between traditional financial institutions and crypto exchanges, like the collaboration between Bybit and Mastercard, demonstrate the increasing integration and acceptance of digital assets in mainstream financial systems.
