Fostering innovation in the Philippines

AFAB is a free economic zone in the Philippines dedicated to pushing development, economic growth and sustainability through creating jobs and establishing technologically-relevant infrastructure systems. In particular, it is focusing on the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and fintech. As one of the oldest free economic zones in Asia, companies residing in the zone are granted preferential measures such as tax exemptions and special visas. Firms that operate innovative businesses can also receive licenses to support the development of the global IT industry — the Mammoth Foundation being one of these.

Global expansion and daily engagement

Headquartered in Singapore with offices in the United Kingdom and several Asian countries, the Mammoth Foundation offers dApps in a range of fields such as healthcare, e-commerce, entertainment and gaming through its mainnet Giant Mammoth Chain (GMMT). GMMT is built on the BNB Chain Application Sidechain and is fully compatible with the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM).

Participants in GMMT can acquire token rewards through Play-to-Earn (P2E) and Life-to-Earn (L2E) mechanisms by participating in everyday activities and hobbies like walking, shopping, gaming and reading comics. These tokens can then be used within the Mammoth ecosystem.

“The Philippines’ market for advanced technologies such as AI and blockchain is expected to grow in the future,” said John Baek, Chairman of the Mammoth Foundation. “We will strive to expand GMMT globally.”

HashKey on-boards market makers to boost liquidity

HashKey on-boards market makers to boost liquidityHashKey, a licensed crypto exchange in Hong Kong, has unveiled plans to onboard individual and enterprise market makers to enhance liquidity on its platform.Photo by engin akyurt on UnsplashMarket maker programIn an announcement on Tuesday, the exchange disclosed that interested parties, whether individuals or entities, can apply to become market makers on HashKey. To qualify, applicants need to engage in cryptocurrency trading worth a minimum of $5 million per month on the exchange. The exchange outlined that the program aimed to “recognize and incentivize users actively contributing to the liquidity” of the platform.Upon submitting their business plans for review, successful applicants will be invited to enter into a contractual agreement with the exchange’s due diligence team, commencing trading activities from Dec. 28 onwards when the program goes live.Commission free tradingThe exchange aims to encourage liquidity providers by offering a commission ranging between 0.005% and 0.015% of the transaction value, determined by monthly rankings or trading volumes, falling within a tiered structure set out within the program. Market makers demonstrating a trading volume of at least $100 million per month stand to enjoy the highest tier of commission revenue. Notably, all market makers will be exempt from commission fees on their trades.Market makers who participate via the program will be on trial for an initial two-month period. Those who are participating in market maker programs on other platforms currently will be able to avail of equivalent trial fee rates through the HashKey exchange.Service expansion trendThe move by HashKey follows a broader trend in Hong Kong, where regulated exchanges have been expanding their services and forming strategic partnerships since the issuance of the first licenses in August. In a recent development, OSL, another Hong Kong licensed exchange, collaborated with Interactive Brokers on November 28, enabling Hong Kong clients to buy Bitcoin through Interactive Brokers’ investment accounts.Additionally, on November 30, OSL welcomed Victory Securities for crypto trading services on its platform. That move came about following Victory’s acquisition of a retail crypto trading license some days beforehand. Notably, OSL received a $90 million investment from blockchain entity BGX in November. While HashKey has been extending its altcoin offerings, exclusively available to accredited investors meeting a $1 million portfolio requirement, the exchange has been proactive in enhancing user security. On Nov. 16, the platform introduced comprehensive insurance coverage for users’ and enterprise assets stored within its digital wallets in collaboration with fintech firm OneDegree.Earlier this week, it emerged that the platform had experienced an unprecedented surge in daily trading volumes. The surge had been attributed to a token rewards program that the exchange is currently running, that offers the distribution of HSK tokens or EcoPoints. As HashKey opens its doors to market makers, the move is poised to contribute to increased liquidity on the exchange, aligning with the broader trend of Hong Kong’s regulated crypto exchanges expanding their offerings and forming strategic partnerships.

Ribbon Finance Enables Altcoin Options Trading

Ribbon Finance Enables Altcoin Options TradingSingapore’s Ribbon Finance, a project that offers a suite of DeFi protocols that help users access crypto-structured products, has enabled altcoin options trading via its Aevo decentralized exchange (DEX).The Ethereum-based platform has begun offering options relative to cryptocurrencies beyond the top two of Ethereum and Bitcoin. Examples of coins that users of Ribbon Finance’s Aevo DEX can access as options include Lido’s LDO, Sui’s SUI token, APT, the token of high throughput proof of stake-based blockchain Aptos, the ARB token of layer two Ethereum scaling network, Arbitrum and Litecoin (LTC).Trading options on-chainThe Aevo DEX project took to Twitter on Monday to announce the development. The project has named the options product “Aevo OTC,” terming it as “the best place to trade altcoin options on-chain.” The firm claims that it’s the first platform to allow users “to trade altcoin options on-chain, in size, with institutional grade liquidity providers.”To kick things off, users will be enabled in trading these altcoin options across weekly, bi-weekly and monthly maturities relative to thirteen crypto tokens. The project plans to rotate the list of coins available for options trading every month depending upon what it deems to be the most popular coins on the market at a given time.Early service adoptersAs Aevo is a DEX, it will utilize on-chain margin systems. When a user buys an option the counterparty is required to post margin of approximately 30% of the notional trade size in the form of US dollar stablecoin, USDC. That procedure is all on-chain and transparent, enabled via smart contracts.Although officially launching the product today, Aevo OTC has been used in production for a number of weeks already. Both digital assets firm Galaxy Digital and crypto-native investment firm CoinFund have already been using the product to trade options.Other early adopters of the product include DeFi R&D and liquid crypto investment strategies firm Re7 Capital and crypto options and structured derivatives firm, OrBit Markets. In fact, Galaxy and OrBit Markets, alongside GSR, are acting as market makers for the product, enabling users to get instant quotes.Developing the crypto options marketThe development means that market participants can now strategize and take advantage of trading altcoins relative to specific events that may be fundamental to a project, such as Litecoin’s halving, for instance. At a later stage, the project intends to enable users in writing options contracts to include customized margins and a specified counterparty. The crypto options market is still at a very early stage of development. Deribit has been the dominant crypto options platform. Ribbon Finance’s service rollout broadens that market, extending options trading beyond the current limited offering of bitcoin, ethereum and solana. The product is more capital efficient for market participants as its portfolio margin system calculates real-time margin requirements, in that way offsetting money-making and losing positions relative to a particular portfolio.Photo by Shubham Dhage on Unsplash
