Game sales and marketing expenses

Com2uS Holdings attributed the increase in profits to game sales growth, which was encouraged by the release of more games. However, the company also noted a decrease in income from investments in associates and an increase in marketing expenses, which were driven by the launch of new games.

Last year's operating expenses totaled KRW 156.4 billion. Labor costs, which constitute the largest portion of operating expenses, experienced a year-on-year decrease of 6.2%, amounting to KRW 46.7 billion. In contrast, there was an increase in spending across three areas: commissions rose by 43.8% to KRW 30.7 billion, loyalty expenses increased by 26.6% to KRW 25.1 billion and marketing saw a jump of 134.9% to KRW 21.1 billion.

According to a report from local news agency Yonhap, Jung Chul-ho, CEO of Com2uS Holdings, emphasized at the earnings presentation today that the company is committed to growth in game publishing, blockchain projects and platform initiatives, all directed towards enhancing the company's value.

Triple-A games on XPLA blockchain

As part of the company’s blockchain endeavors, the XPLA platform is set to focus on improving user convenience and incorporating major content, including a variety of triple-A games.

Looking ahead, Com2uS Holdings anticipates that its idle role-playing game, Soul Strike, will contribute to the company's revenue for the first quarter. Since its debut last month, Soul Strike has been attracting attention not only in Korea but across Asia.

The game publisher also outlined its global release plans for the MMORPG, Zenonia Chronobreak. Gamers in Taiwan can expect access to the game in the second quarter, while those in Japan and others will be able to play in the fourth quarter.

Audius Achieves Token Listing On India’s CoinSwitch

Audius Achieves Token Listing On India’s CoinSwitchAudius, a decentralized music streaming platform which is attempting to cut intermediaries out of the music business, took a major leap forward in the Asian market on Wednesday, scoring a listing of its native $AUDIO token on Indian crypto exchange, CoinSwitch.Photo by Studio Art Smile on PexelsIn announcing the token going live on the platform CoinSwitch encouraged platform users to “trade $AUDIO today and support independent artists worldwide.” Founded in the United States in 2018 by Stanford University graduates Forrest Browning and Roneil Rumberg, the project launched its $AUDIO token in 2020.The token commenced trading on top tier global crypto exchanges shortly afterwards. In terms of listings on Asian exchanges, $AUDIO can be traded on DigitFinex Global, Bitrue and BingX in Singapore, HitBTC and Hotbit in Hong Kong and Tokocrypto and INDODAX in Indonesia. While it is already listed on WazirX, India’s largest crypto exchange by trading volume, the project will welcome another Indian listing via CoinSwitch given a market that ranks sixth in the world in terms of crypto ownership, with a backdrop of a population of 1.4 billion.Web3 with a Web2 UXAudius has taken a different approach than most other crypto projects. From the outset, its founders have focused on giving the platform the look and feel of a Web2 streaming service. Audius decided to embed its non-custodial wallet Hedgehog into the user login process. The strategy has been to make the UX as customer friendly and intuitive as possible in order to aid user on-boarding. There have been trade-offs in taking this approach and with that, the project advises users to keep only a small amount of the $AUDIO token within the Hedgehog wallet. When Hedgehog was launched in 2019, a project blog post proclaimed that “decentralization doesn’t have to come at the expense of user experience.”TikTok integrationEarlier this year, the Web3 streaming service integrated TikTok, allowing platform users to create accounts simply by linking their TikTok profiles. Additionally, the integration meant that users could share their Audius songs in the TikTok videos they produced. In late January, the $AUDIO token jumped 70% in a matter of hours once it became known that Coinbase planned to list the token on January 26. While a CoinSwitch listing is a significant milestone for the project in the Indian market, naturally it doesn’t compare with the volume that a global exchange listing on Coinbase can bring. At the time of publication, the $AUDIO token was trading at $0.29.For its part, CoinSwitch has experienced many of the ups and downs that this nascent industry could possibly deliver. In August 2022, five properties associated with the crypto exchange were searched by India’s Enforcement Directorate on the grounds of suspected contravention of India’s Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).Founded in 2017 by Ashish Singhal, Govind Soni and Vimal Sagar Tiwari, the firm has attracted investment and backing from Andreessen Horowitz, Coinbase Ventures, Tiger Global Management and Paradigm.

Etherscan expands through Solscan acquisition

Expanding beyond the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) domain, Malaysia-headquartered Etherscan has officially acquired Solscan, a prominent block explorer within the Solana ecosystem.Photo by Shubham’s Web3 on UnsplashEnhancing cross-chain analysisThe acquisition, announced earlier this week, signifies a noteworthy development within the blockchain industry and is poised to bring about a new interface aimed at enhancing cross-chain analysis. Solscan, based in Singapore with its primary team in Vietnam, was previously majority-owned by TomoChain Lab, a Singaporean blockchain software developer. The deal’s terms were not disclosed and the acquisition places Solscan in the same league as Polygonscan within the family of Etherscan block explorers. Diversifying product offeringEtherscan, established in 2015, stands as one of the earliest crypto projects, initially focusing on the EVM space. The platform offers an explorer-as-a-service product for blockchain explorers, with the acquisition of Solscan marking a significant step in diversifying its offerings. Since its inception in 2021, Solscan has risen as a leading explorer in the Solana ecosystem, catering to over three million monthly users. Providing services such as detailed address, token, transaction information, APIs, dashboards and NFT metadata, Solscan mirrors Etherscan’s services but is tailored for the Solana network. The merger between Etherscan and Solscan is anticipated to bring forth a series of enhancements and innovations, with both platforms benefiting from the integration of additional features. The roadmap for this collaboration outlines improvements in user interfaces, navigation and overall accessibility, promising an enriched user experience. Solscan, in its announcement, assured its commitment to the Solana community, vowing to maintain unparalleled blockchain exploration services. The shared vision of Etherscan and Solscan revolves around providing what Etherscan termed “credibly neutral and equitable access to blockchain data,” underlining their commitment to transparency and fairness in the blockchain space. Matthew Tan, CEO and founder of Etherscan, expressed excitement about the acquisition and highlighted the alignment of Solscan’s expertise in making blockchain data accessible and user-friendly with Etherscan’s mission. The acquisition is expected to contribute significantly to the broader blockchain ecosystem. Solscan serves as a crucial player in the Solana ecosystem, an Ethereum alternative. The platform assists users in viewing information within the Solana blockchain, managing accounts, tracking transactions and exploring investment opportunities across various crypto platforms. Solana resurgenceThis deal comes at a time when Solana’s momentum is evident, ending 2023 on a strong note. In December 2023, NFT sales on the Solana network surpassed those on Ethereum for the first time. Solana has experienced substantial growth in comparison to Ethereum, both in terms of its token’s value and against the U.S. Dollar. The fall of crypto exchange FTX had a large impact on Solana and its ecosystem as FTX had been heavily involved within that community and associated projects. The exchange still holds a sizable amount of locked SOL tokens. Following its collapse, the SOL unit price fell below $10. At the time of writing, it stands at $100. The acquisition of Solscan by Etherscan underscores the resurgence of the Solana ecosystem, with major players in the Web3 space recognizing the value of Solana-based technology. As both platforms collaborate, users can anticipate a more robust and interconnected blockchain exploration experience.
